Sometimes characters DO need to get over themselves, in my opinion. And as for the cleaning-room whiners, people are allowed to be hypocrites? It doesn't make them WRONG when they say the first thing, though.

It's not always about having more emotional strength; it's often about not having to go through crap and thus being normal and having a better perspective.

GOD CHARACTER A SUCKS BECAUSE THE ONLY PERSON HE'D EVER WANTED TO LOVE HIM KILLED HIS TWIN SISTER. HE NEED TO GET OVER HIMSELF AND STOP WHINING, EVEN THOUGH HE REALLY DOESN'T.
PS MY MOM SUCKS FOR GROUNDING ME FOR NOT CLEANING MY ROOM.
I'm sorry, I'll laugh at the stupidity.
There may be a story out there where a character who needs to get over themselves. I can't really think of a character like that in any canon I follow.

I didn't say they were BAD CHARACTERS, I said I DISLIKED THEM. I PERSONALLY DO NOT LIKE THIS CHARACTER. I'm allowed to have an opinion right? I have a personal scale by which I judge people. So does everybody. And not everybody's scale is the same. OH WAIT NVM, YOU'RE LAUGHING AT MY STUPIDITY I BETTER CHANGE LOLZ.
Uh, seriously. You have something against me or something?
no subject
However there is a big difference between I DISLIKE A CHARACTER and that character needs to get over themselves.
The only thing I honestly laughed at you about was your comment that if your parents hated you you'd flip them off. Though I do feel very sorry for you if you've grown up in environment to where you'd deal with something so painful like that in that manner.
I have nothing against you personally, no.

*dies* Re: the parent thing, for me, personally, it wouldn't really even be painful or worth angsting over. If they hate me, ok. Life goes on. See where the totally different scale comes in?

How about, say a dear friend of yours suddenly starts hating you? Wouldn't you feel horrible?
For my case, someone I love hating me would be terrible because I derive so much from my loved ones. To no longer have that is... It's like losing part of myself.

*dies* Sorry, you just kinda have to understand that you're talking to like 75% robot here.

... that's all I can say. dotdotdot.

What, are you saying you'd RATHER I feel pain and angst and woe about it? 'Cause that's even weirder to WANT to feel that.
no subject
But I love my parents. And I can think of few things more horrible to face than someone you love and someone who loved you hating you.
That's just. Horrible.

What's so wrong about calling a character angsty when they are?
no subject
Unless you're bashing a character with a fucked up life and calling them emo like they have no right to suffer/need to get over themselves.
no subject
Say uhhh, my dog dies. I'd be emo for a while. But sure, during that time, I'd be emo. Justifiably so.
Still emo. >>"
no subject
Then again, I hate the word emo. It seems to disregard the pain a character is suffering. Even more so when it applies to a real person.
no subject
But again, that's venturing into difference-of-opinion where we clearly don't agree, so. *dies*

Say, Aang from Avatar. He is not allowed to be angry after losing a dear friend!

Wow, I love you. Someone else who can't stand that word and the implications behind it. People seem to forget that part of being human is feeling sad sometimes, that everyone has a normal scale of varying emotions. Being chastised for having an understandably emotional reaction to situations has always struck me as ridiculous. Denying fictional characters their humanity is eyeroll-worthy enough, but real people? Come on.
