Oh God, I hate this argument. Clearly everyone needs to like what you like, and if people like debating shows clearly they need lives. What, you can't have a life and partake in fandom at the same time?

Because it's my hobby? Everyone has hobbies, and they spend exorbitant amounts of money and time on it, whether it's fantasy football, knitting, stamp collecting, gardening, fashion, model building, or anything like that.

Fandom is fun for me, I'm really interested in exploring character dynamics and discussing plot and characters with other people. I write fanfiction because I enjoy writing in general and want to play with my favorite characters in different situations, so fandom is what I do for relaxation--same as I like golfing and reading and trying new foods.

Or getting waaaaay into pre-election political analysis, the kind where you scrutinize Hillary Clinton's cleavage and wonder how that will affect her campaign. Or following celebrities to a creepy extent and buying every magazine to see what they're up to.

Or, you know, any geeky, fannish pursuit that is "acceptable" to the mainstream.

I'm confused.... is OP trying to tell me that because I'm obsessive over fandoms that I don't have a life?
Cause, last time I checked I had a very good life. I have great friends and I spend most of my time working, horse-riding and socialise.

My fandom obsessing is my 'me-time' at the end of the day when I'm just relaxing.
And I'm sure a fair percentage of fandom is the same...

Ok I..Kinda agree. I mean I used to know someone who was extremely obsessed with fandom that she flunked 12th yr of HS because she would literally be on the web doing fandom related shit.

Seriously, some people need to get their priorities straight.
