I've read all the books for the first time recently and I knew he was a bit of a dick (more than in the films) but I wasn't aware exactly how he could be almost downright cruel for no reason. I think that's lost in the films. Also, I struggle with it because he's picking on children. I still like the character and get why he's popular but there's some sort of internal screening process in my head that can't get over that. Not saying it's any better to bully adults and he has some issues that made him hostile towards Harry in particular but yeah, I found it hard going sometimes.

On the other hand at least he didn't go for Umbridge levels of bullying kids. I've never wanted to punch a screen and/or book so much.

I'm rather a fan of fanservice... but yeah. There's a line where you cross and it's no longer just in good fun anymore and it starts to come off as seriously creepy. It's kind of like that point where something goes from being sensitive about an issue to being preachy, only in the opposite direction. It's like the story suddenly becomes an thinly veiled excuse to put in a panty shot or a jiggly boob, because the creator is a mouth-breather and assumes I am, too.

He was eleven when he found out and by the time he was old enough to perform more advanced magic, he was also a teenager.

You're an adult at 17 in HP-verse so the "he's a teenager" thing doesn't get him off the hook for me.

Does he have to spend his entire existence focusing on Voldemort? I think he did that enough throughout the series; those little bits of happiness were dearly important to him--they gave him an escape.

Not his whole entire existence but a bit more than he did in the beginning. Finding out that someone killed your parents and tried to kill you, and then running into that person and having them try to kill you again? And knowing that they STILL wanna kill you? Should have fucking terrified him enough to get his ass into the library every one in a while without being forced by someone being hurt, or dying LOL. I'm not saying he can't be a teenager because he was. But he certainly wasn't a normal one and it just seemed like he waited to long to take up the implications of that.

Harry was never the studious type; he was all action.

And it just seems strange that he never took the initiative earlier and was like "I'm not gonna sit around and wait for his guy to get me. I'm gonna prepare myself." Preparing to possibly be attacked for Voldemort is NOT all reading. He's gotta learn spells and actually practice them and stuff. It involves a TON of action. And it just disappoints me because I feel like he never really took up the amount of responsibility he should have in order to protect himself. I just think he should have cared more about being ready.

I was only talking about the annoying ones. Obviously not every m/m shipper is like this but the annoying ones usually are. Not a generalization it's just true. And yes almost all shippers are annoying but i am sick of m/m shippers acting like they are some victim in the ship world. They are the majority. I have seen more het ships get bashed than i have ever seen slash ships.

I also pity you for being ashamed enough to be in that much denial, TBH (and if my guess is right, religious conditioning is likely to blame). Hating yourself for having a very natural desire just because you've been raised by pious nutjobs to think it's evil, dirty, or sinful can't be healthy.

I do believe that the last creative team on the book, or at least one of the artists or something, totally shipped it. So it's possible it would have happened. Personally I think I prefer Karolina and Xavin. They had to go through so much together to get their relationship on even ground, and I'd hate for all of that to just be erased on a whim. Nico's romantic decisions in the past have been dubious but she was finally starting to mature when she got with Viktor. I will never forgive Whedon for breaking them up, I don't care who he is!

Heh pretty much the same here. Although the more times I watch Jim from BBC's Sherlock the less I hate that portrayal. It's sort of starting to work for me.

Depends on the fandom. You seem to be in SPN so I feel your pain on that one. There are definitely fandoms where it is worse to be into m/m though -- try hardcore SF/fantasy book fandoms.

Yay! I love these books. <3 They definitely need more recognition, and it would be really cool if Studio Ghibli did something based on them. :)
