I seriously don't understand why it couldn't have stuck with the old and perfect ligne claire style like this Asterix movie.

We're finally going to get a Tintin movie with a budget and it's going to look as twitchy as a rotoscope and with half the soul. *sadfacing forever*

[identity profile] pearlsthatwere.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Kids are kids. Of course they're useless in a zombie apocalypse. I doubt they'll kill them off, since they're important in the comics, so there's a good chance Sophia and Carl will get way more badass.

Gotta disagree with you about those guys being the only interesting characters. Shane's my man. I love that guy.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a great secret! <3

And the fact that it's Professor Layton makes it even better!

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What I really hate about the spoilers is that at first they said "someone is going to die" and now it's "anyone can die, we've increased the body count".
Are you fucking kidding me? I don't want to watch this show fearing for everyone's life. That sucks the fun out of the show.
Now I'm pretty sure they will kill Breakdown, Airachnid, Bulkhead... Kill all my favorites, why don't you.

[identity profile] saturnonjupiter.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
oh err i didn't realize i was being 'shouted down' or unaware of the fact that hoards of butthurt people who can't handle anyone possibly not seeing the value in shipping nothing but slash regardless of the actual characters/circumstances are posting in reply to me.

kind of hilarious you apparently don't realize i know perfectly well what's happening here?? people showing they can't tolerate any sort of dissenting thought. :U

[identity profile] twenty-rooks.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they actually have avoided the uncanny valley (from the little I've seen). I'm more disturbed by the name changes and that they aren't speaking French (and I grew up with the Swedish translation, so I'm not sure why).

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
lol idk, the part where you seem to think same-sex pairings are ~all about the sex~ and, yanno, my entire comment save the one parenthetical joke?

..whut. What even is this question. A "conscious decision," uh, no, not really. It's not like I did it to get in the cool kids' club. And ftr it wasn't a change from guys to girls it was realizing I'm biromantic rather than heteroromantic (as I am asexual).

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The one thing that confused me here most (not even touching all the wank, I see other people are doing just fine with that) is the "Not every woman is fandom is bisexual" comment, mainly because no everyone ships things that are purely sexually oriented. I'm straight and I ship m/m, m/f and f/f just fine.

[identity profile] citrinesunset.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of my sex dreams are pretty weird. I'm kind of glad I haven't had any involving celebrities or characters (I think maybe I did have one about an actor, though. I can't remember).

My non-sexual fandom-related dreams have been pretty awesome, though. Once, I dreamt about Tracy Turnblad from Hairspray defeating the Master from Doctor Who with force lightening that shot from her fingertips.

Well, I WAS gonna comment...

[identity profile] castorochiaro.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
...then I saw the massive comment threads that meander from everything between discussions of the ethics of porn, to the exploitation of one gender or another.

And I was like

This is an explosive topic, apparently.

To me it sounds like trolling with what s/he already believes in tbh. But s/he seems a bit dense and unable to understand other points of view.

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaaaah no, cos for one thing, personality and characterization is almost always above and beyond sexual interest and that bullshit. How a person acts, their history and their feelings, inform how they act towards sex and relationships, and within a relationship; the reverse is not true. Anyway, not all shows/movies/whatever showcase sexual or romantic lives as of paramount importance; in fact, the fandoms I pursue tend to put romance more on the back-burner -- to be fair, the characters are usually rather more interested in saving the world.

Anyway, again, your homophobia is showing in your thought that showing a person being interested in someone of the same sex means you're "picking and choosing characterization." As if slash writers are simply unable to objectively look at two people and consider whether or not they would make sense as a pairing, and how it would happen, what would go on, etc. No, of course we're all shallow and just ditching huge swathes of characterization for shits and giggles, not actually sensitively portraying two well-characterized, in-character people falling for one another or being in a relationship with one another* -- that's impossible, amiright?

* - Obviously I am not saying every slash fic is written like this. But fuck, neither is every het fic. Or every gen fic. But I've seen a lot of slash fic that put more effort into correct and canon characterization and portrayal than the actual show's writers did, ffs. And idk, I put a lot more stock in "these two guys have had incredibly chemistry for months" than I do in "hey the writers thought this needed more sex so he's gonna hook up with this girl we brought onto the show one episode ago that he has nothing in common with."

Just off the top of my head, in the UK, America, and Sweden the average man is like 5'10".

And if you go my the young generation (sub 25) that reaches six foot.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't fathom why they all haven't been practicing with crossbows and hatchets, etc. Instead they are clinging to guns which they dare not use. I mean, yeah, they seemed to have cottoned on to the idea that maybe giving everyone a handgun might be problematic being that some of them seem too slow to get why guns = bad idea. But, seriously, they've been scrounging for a while, has no one considered giving everyone a big ass cleaver? Or a sword? Or even a crow bar? Hell a long sharp stick would go a long way.

I'm all for survival stories, but I just find it highly unrealistic that it would take people this long to figure out basic skills. Even the slow ones should know the drill by now. They should have created hand signals and practiced maneuvers. They should be carrying gear, like compasses, soundless weapons, binoculars, maps. Instead it seems like they are winging everything as if it's the first time they've encountered zombies.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL Too bad Barney will find out somehow and show everyone her Lu/Burrows slash fic and never let her live it down ever.

[identity profile] delicatetobreak.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think it's the greatest show in the world but sometimes it's pretty funny and, not going to lie, I ship the hell out of them two.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a transguy and I tend to identify more with female characters than male ones.

Yep. Identification is a funny thing.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it really isn't. In people with high libido, regardless of their sexual preference, there is some very real hormone and brain chemistry at work. The hormones that control sexual urges and arousal are produced by the adrenal glands, which also control fight-or-flight response. Being horny and not being allowed to do anything about it causes a chemical imbalance, which leads to anxiety and even depression.

And even if it was only in their heads, how exactly would you propose "fixing" that? Doping sexually frustrated people up on unnecessary antidepressants and unnecessary therapy so they feel shameful and defective about wanting to masturbate (you know, like we were doing in the 1920s)? Because that's totally not going to mess anyone up at all, right?

Having sex before you're ready to will definitely mess you up, but it's not the sex that's to blame. It's the person giving into pressure to do something they know they aren't ready for.

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Having a high or low libido is down to genetics. It's not just a mental thing. And wtf "as opposed to any decent sort of grounding" what does this even mean.

And there is nothing wrong with casual sex. You don't have to take sex seriously, isn't that great? I mean, be responsible, use protection, obviously, but it doesn't have to be all "only with your true love" etc. And it especially doesn't have to only be with someone you're married to. That is so much bullshit. Having casual sex or sex outside of marriage =/= "mentally/emotionally damaging."

[identity profile] uluviel.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a shame the Espers were so useless in FF12. By the time you leveled up a bit all they were good for was syphoning their MP.

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

Said it better than I did. <3

Re: OP HERE.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They apparently have to wear multiple layers to hide padding for all the stunts they do. You're under a huge misconception about the show's content.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I am more outraged about men watching lesbian porn than I ever will be about women, straight or bi or lesbian, writing male/male porn.

Why?

Because men, gay or otherwise, haven't been abused, objectified and exploited by women for sexual purposes for literally hundreds of years, unlike women have been by men.

So, in short: you're making a stupid comparison. Just say "I'm annoyed at the people that want straight women to pretend they're interested in femslash for social justice cookies because that's dumb as shit and women shouldn't be shamed for their sex drives and told they have to direct them toward something more morally correct," because that's a perfectly complaint on its own without drawing false comparisons between women writing slash and men watching lesbian pornos.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I know it wouldn't be in character but it has the potential to be so funny.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
the kids are alright

that's it
