Discussion fiction is never dumb. If it were there wouldn't be classes devoted to the study of literature (and Harry Potter does have its own classes devoted to the study of it.)

You're entitled to your opinions, but regardless of what you want to see in literature, most good stories make it because they are relateable and believable. The psychology of characters is important to maintaining that relateablitiy and believability. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean it shouldn't be believable.

if this is what you call boring, i don't want to know what interesting is.

give me these summons over the bizarro robot-mecha bullshit in ffxiii.

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, there are very, very few shows and movies in which it is either explicitly stated or implied that a character is only heterosexual, if they're depicted in a heterosexual relationship. Considering the statistical presence of gay and bisexual people in the real general population, if you took all the fictional characters there are, subtract the percentage of ones presented as canon gay or bi, there are still a lot more NOT accounted for of what's left.

Go revel in your canon. Oh, and don't tell people downthread that you don't care what they write, because you clearly do, or you wouldn't have offered up your opinion, unsolicited, on this secret. :-)

[identity profile] eerised-da.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
But that's the thing: How do you know you'd react any differently with the same exact life experiences? You can't know how you'd react if you'd lived Harry's life because you wouldn't be the same person you are.

Also, that was an important aspect of Harry himself: luck. He wasn't supposed to be super smart. He was special by circumstances, but he was supposed to be fairly average outside of that and luck is what got him through most situations, if not his best friends helping him (mostly Hermione). He was actually supposed to be very normal.

uh, no, you're just stupid. learn what namestalking means.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh *hyperventilates* I lovelovelovelove this manga, love it to bits and pieces. <333333

As for the secret itself... you know, that's okay. Relationships don't have to be all about defying Heaven and Hell for the one you love. And that love can be just as deep and true and meaningful as anything Shirasagi and Karasu have--moreso, even, because it's real.

[identity profile] cure-light.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think it'd be interesting to see what he'd do with the world. Like with Howl's Moving Castle, I kind of like that he takes the source material and has fun with it.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I actually agree with this. He's great when he has good direction. But The Matrix pretty much typecast him so when cast him for roles, they seem to want Neo instead.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Batman: Arkham City/Asylum's character graphics were atrocious, tbh. The Unreal Engine really isn't kind to character models. It gives them that freaky plastic Ken doll appearance. The dead eyes and awkward lighting doesn't help.

Bruce Wayne's character model is probably the best example of this. He is literally a living Ken doll, right down to the plastic painted-on hair.

[identity profile] quamquam20.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
YES. Basil is so canon, it's ridiculous.

He deserves a better Watson, though. Dawson is sweet but not remotely competent.

Re: I never sad that

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
there's an easy solution to that

lurk more

go to some feminist101 style communities and read the posts there

etc

for the record: agreeing with anyone complaining about 'dem feminazis' is a really stupid move, bc there is literally no way to seriously use the term feminazis and not be a trivializing misogynist

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I can see why they would be cute together, but I still cannot get actually shipping them and wanting them to be together. And Matt/Karen shippers who are rude to/about Daisy blow my mind. Get a grip on reality!

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
what makes them an asshole? the fact that they're telling this guy in no uncertain terms that he's a misogynist dipshit that should stfu about women's issues since he clearly has no idea what they're talking about?

[identity profile] inuyatta.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of on the fence about the character renders themselves, but as far as the movement and animation, it flows a lot more realistically than what they're doing for hair in MK.

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
many would argue it does harm others by messing with your sense of adult sexuality/proper sexual interaction with others

That's why we try to make it illegal for 12-year-olds to view porn. It's sort of insulting to imply though, that a 39-year-old isn't possessed of better judgment to know what's pleasant for fantasy and what's healthy in reality. The sincerely nice thing about porn is it's not required reading or viewing - adults can choose not to partake of it. Such as you've chosen not to do. Isn't that cool?

Re: I never sad that

[personal profile] oxfordtweed 2011-10-24 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, I agree that it was a stupid comment on my part, and the bit I was agreeing with was the part about often times, men simply aren't allowed to have an opinion on feminist matters.

But, the damage is done, so whatever. Nothing I say can fix it so I give up before anything even gets started.

[identity profile] that-douchebag.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
What the fuck? I was talking about the desings, I don't care about the animations.

And I was just talking about the last three brainiac.

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed on both, just because something falls under some typical tropes doesn't mean it can't be interesting.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
no offence to the OP, but his voice is very... uh. Well, it's a strange voice to be in love with!

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
There's a myriad of reasons to dislike it that don't include the summons. They need to at least try to play it before judging it harshly imo.

Re: The Gay Agenda

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
You forgot "Buy Milk."

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, naturally. And I don't blame you for being rightfully indignant.

Hm, I'm having trouble phrasing my question here exactly, but what I'm really curious about is if anyone actually gets into these initially somewhat civil arguments and end up resorting to the "your fat... etc" statements (and variants) and to the "you must be a neckbeard poor bb lol you're probs mad 'cause you never got laid" retorts (I'm pretty sure no one actually said this, but I am referring to this sort of statement).

I don't know. I just get so annoyed when I hear people rightly defending women/feminism, or whatever subject, and sounding unbelievably moronic while doing so because they're resorting to exactly the same derailing and ad hominem tactics.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, what does "namestalking" mean? Google isn't being very helpful.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
The het shippers in ATLA were only crazy to each other, though. I never saw anybody get shit for shipping slash in that fandom.
