Ha!! I live in NY city and I vividly remember an incident walking home one night. Someone was obviously following me. Sped up when I did, slowed down, stopped. So, I still don't know what in the hell possesed me, but I turned around and started barking and growling. Huge, muscular, guy behind me with a knife--his eyes popped open really wide and he ran off.

This was when pay-phones were all around so I called for a friend and ducked into the closest bodega to wait.

That happened to me once on a bus in Scotland. It was kind of hilarious/ridiculous. These two guys were having an argument ("don't talk shite to me, or I'll punch your fuckin' eyes out!" "Me?!" "Aye!") and then the drunk one came and sat next to me and kept inviting me to come to his house and use his "spare bed" because it was REALLY late and we were the only two people left on the bus. (I got on the wrong one.) I would've been kinda freaked out if the bus driver wasn't there, but then it was just funny.
