Yeah I could really see Will Smith as Watson. I think he'd fit the role well. But then I could watch Will Smith all day.

It's kind of a no win situation! If the OP brings it up the other person might comment so their friend doesnt feel bad but not because they really wanted to.

It's like the difference between someone giving you a birthday present because they like you and you telling someone if they don't give you a birthday present you're gonna be REALLY upset and btw did they know it was your birthday yesterday *hinthint*

I have no personal attachment to the character, but the art style for the new one really weirds me out. What are her eyes.

Would Mos Def be Mycroft?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, the Holmes and Watson in that film are in an established relationship. They have had years to know each other. Sherlock and John have just met. The chemistry is subtle, but it's just there. That's why it's called subtext.

Also, I love them equally. Can't pick favorites. Won't pick favorites.

As a fan of both girls I never understood where all the hate came from. Unless you're a fan of the comics or something, neither of the girls has any real personality in the game except the tidbits of dialogue you get from Lyra if you play as the boy in HG/SS. They're avatars for the female players. Sure their designs are different but I think all the hate for Lyra is seriously unwarranted. I can understand being pissed off Kris is gone but goddamn.

THIS. It could have been really cool, but I thought it felt like it was a 26-episode series with maybe 10 episodes worth of story.

The best part of TVD is that no one is perfect. Good guys make bad guy choices and vice-versa- so I think Elena does the best she can- she's 18- she's having to make crazy adult choices in very extreme circumstances. Are they all perfect? No way. But I think those choices come from trying to do what's best.

I also think it's possible that a lot of the hate comes from the Elena/Damon relationship developing.

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't care so much if "new Lola" had been an entirely different character. But the 180 in her personality and her ugly design is just bad. So I agree with you.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, good for you? I never said you weren't allowed to like her or whatever so I don't know why you felt the need to post this. -_-

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, enough with the distaff counterparts for pairings. And what, a thin pig, what the fuck? They're pigs!

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it makes sense though, as this new Looney Toons is pretty much garbage all around.

It's not a political opinion, you douchecanoe. Abortion is a personal medical decision that should be the business of the person having or considering an abortion, and no one else. So fuck you, pro-lifer. You're disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so.

All my guy friends were ecstatic that they could get their hands on anime with lesbians, only to drop it later because of how "boring" it was. All my girl friends (among them a few yaoi fans) were happy to see an anime with strong, female characters. Half of them dropped the series for the same reason the guys did.

I don't think the girls being guys would've made the story any better. Also, the only yaoi fangirls who don't pay attention to the quality of story are the rabid ones. IMO, had there been a yaoi fandom for this anime, it wouldn't have been very good quality-wise.

[identity profile] rebelwithaclock.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I remember thinking, when I dropped this series halfway through in my early days of anime fandom, that I might find the show more interesting if the main leads were pretty bishounen (because the way the show was, I got the feeling that it "wasn't for my demographic"). But...in hindsight, I'm not so sure. I'm not sure if I would get attached to the MCs any more if they were guys (because they still come across as being cold and uninteresting to me when I try to change their genders in my head), and the story still would've been slow, and I still would've been frustrated with the episodes where I felt the plot still wasn't going anywhere...

So. Yeah. I dunno. That would maybe help with the yaoi fandom but I don't know if it would've made that huge of a difference.

As a member of society I wouldn't want people I don't know/trust/didn't accept as authority out there doing what they please to appease their own morals. I don't really care that they believe they're just - what I care is how it affects me and the society I live in. And vigilantism inherently has a huge margin for making things worse. Because vigilantes are human, they're not necessarily stable mentally and even if they are they don't necessarily stay stable and sane; there's no guarantee that their morals won't change with time, or that their power won't get to their head, that they won't harm innocents in their attempts to remain anonymous, etc. etc. It's a very slippery slope, and once you step on it it's guaranteed not to end well.

It's not a question of appealing to the masses or not. If we get down to it, it's about all the things that can potentially go wrong, and ordinary people not living in fear or at least uneasiness because there's a murderer on the loose - a well-intentioned murderer, maybe, but a murderer all the same. (And if he starts being less well-intentioned and more concerned with his own purposes, it's even worse.)

I'm not saying that vigilantism is necessarily wrong by default, but vigilantes resorting to the heavy end of violence and murder? I can't condone that. There are just way too many things that can go wrong.

[identity profile] dwell-ondreams.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I love them both equally, for entirely different reasons.

I've only just started reading the stories, so faithfulness to source material doesn't enter into my reasoning here.

I love the movies because I love the chemistry between RDJ & Jude Law. They're fun, they obviously enjoy each others company in real life, they're comfortable with each other & it shows on screen. This is Sherlock & John after they've known each other for years & have become soul mates & brothers.

I love the show because the stories are engaging & I love Sherlock's inability to be a 'normal' person. I love that he acts so smug & uncaring & cruel, then turns around & (unexpectedly) kisses Molly on the cheek in apology for being a cruel ass to her or chases after John & tells him he's his only friend. BBC!Sherlock is young & awkward & damaged & the relationship between him & John is still being tested (on his end anyway. I think John's love is pretty evident). Plus there's angst.

I'm in the SPN fandom. I love angst.

Yeah, like I said it hit at a REALLY bad month. Said month was one of the contributing factors for me to bail out of gaming and anime and move to live-action TV as my fandom source, it was that sucky.

Basically, horrible month being punched with sexism in the face, and then I heard Soulsilver was out! YES, I thought. Pokemon Silver was my very first video game as a kid on my GB Color. My very first Pokemon. I still remember my lovely Epseon, and the rush I got when I defeated the Elite Four. I was PSYCHED realizing I could play as a kick-butt girl tromping around my favorite pokemon world, all updated!

Aaaaand then... yeah. I saw the new design. I will probably buy it eventually and just play the boy, but it really was a emotional punch to the gut during that time. If it was earlier or muuuuch much later I probably wouldn't have cared so much. *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's a political opinion by definition, whether you like it or not.

It must take a lot of energy to have that kind of blanket hate for such a large percentage of the population. :/

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, grow up.

[identity profile] shukivengeance.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's true, the other person ending up feeling obligated to comment won't help either, but at the same time bringing it up in a non-confrontational way could hopefully lead to a resolution of the situation instead of the OP being quietly upset at how this person is asking for attention to their work but not offering the same in return.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Are you kidding? The only reason I bought this was because of how much praise it got and the lesbians

Waste of my 20 tbh. I can see why it doesn't have a fandom.

[identity profile] weslea.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
We can be dumb and over-invested together, OP. Kris was the first girl protagonist I'd ever played, so I have some of my feelings projected all over her as the reason I wish she hadn't been replaced. I feel kind of petty for being sad none of those rom hacks that replaced Kotone with Kris was ever finished.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
This is so Glee. /pointing the obvious
