At the same time, even if someone you love doesn't share an interest of yours, they should be respectful about it if they really love you.

Agreed. It wouldn't be considered acceptable to belittle your partner's interest in boating or rock climbing or scrapbooking -- why do we tolerate people ragging on nerdier hobbies? A good partner is one who is amused by your proclivities, not fearful of them.

It is pretty awesome, isn't it? But, IMO, The "Legend of Zelda" rap is up there as well! ♥

[identity profile] math-camel.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Um, I love them both. Quite a lot, actually.

They're totally different and I like them for way different reasons but it's awesome.

Oh for fuck's sake. Have we raised a generation of nerds without balls? If someone is so shallow that they will judge you by what you read, versus how you act, then they are not a decent friend in the first place.

[identity profile] dragonsofeden.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's a backlash we've seen in recent years -- overenthusiastic anime fans ("weeaboos") have been held up as evidence that anime/manga fans are all maladjusted mouthbreathers. The truth is, EVERY fandom has socially awkward people, many of whom are perfectly lovely individuals once they've had a chance to grow. Demonizing anime/manga is just the new thing that insecure nerds do to build themselves up ("at least I'm not as bad as THOSE LAME ANIME PEOPLE").

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
This. Though I can't tell if they're talking about g_a or the whole fandom, because the Character A example sounds a lot like ontd_glee's obsessive hate-on for Blaine and Darren Criss.

nayrt

The RSE girl hardly counts since she's almost as old as Crys. And even in Emerald she DOES look pretty girly, since she trades in her workout clothes for a dress.

Also, when the girls are dressed in girly ways despite the fact that it would be HIGHLY IMPRACTICAl for what they're doing in the games (Dawn, I'm talking to you) I think it is sexist.

Plus ayrt wasn't upset about the fact that the character was girly. She was upset that they REPLACED a non-girly character with a girly one. That's a bit different than just having a character who's girly.

Yeah, your partner doesn't have to enjoy or participate in your hobbies, just tolerate them

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'd be fine with if they'd just...admit they'd rather see two men than two women. They seem overly concerned with being equal opportunity shippers, when it's CLEARLY not the case.

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
YEah, I'm pretty sure that is it, even if my aunt swears she has read the books.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
How did I not notice that the person you replied to wasn't anon. >_> /fail

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Or, if he dies (haven't seen the ep yet), we know he's coming back. That's canon (Wasn't there someone who was complaining about that with the movies? That it was 'cheap' that they had killed Sherlock and then brought him back?)

[identity profile] supesy.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. +1

[identity profile] darkmanifest.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I want death and destruction, not wacky hijinks at the grocery store. Leave that shit to Mickey Mouse and pals.

[identity profile] darkmanifest.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Although I admit the scene in the closet was hilarious, but only because I always loved the eyes-in-the-dark gag.

[identity profile] classic-mold137.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
So true. Great Mouse Detective is both my favorite Sherlock adaptation and my favorite Disney movie.

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you've got me interested.

[identity profile] elica.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
And Matthew Morrison.
I thought about Glee too and this one community.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, would it kill them to get better lyrics than 'Did you tap my phone lines?' 'Yes I tapped your phone lines.'?

[identity profile] elica.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Especialy knowing how much of TV show, books and movies they are that they could find goo.d No, they're stuck with their hatred. Go figure...

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I dislike so much about the BBC Sherlock. I don't get the hype, and if anything it seems to have gone downhill in quality. IDK.

The Ritchie films aren't perfect or high art, but they're a hell of a lot of fun, so I dig them.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't help that Moffat really blew it with Irene Adler imo. The controversy over her portrayal was completely warranted, I feel.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Some people like their popcorn entertainment, some like the more groundedness

Lol no.

Some people just don't think the TV series is very good, tone of it aside.

[identity profile] orijinaru.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
They're basically trying to burn the candle at both ends. Some people need to learn that you can't push for more leading ladies when they don't acknowledge their existence in the first place. From what I've seen Rizzoli & Isles is probably the closest we're going to get to two female characters getting noticed often. Yet I also feel that if both characters were male then its fandom would be at least three times as large.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Haha. I want to agree, to a point...specially when someone like Maverick is around...

But then I feel like I'm disappointing Tiger DX

Plus the stuff people have already said...
