I was thinking the other day that with all the holmes adaptations there have been over the years, and especially now with two very popular ones out at the same time, why we haven't rebooted into a minority holmes, or a gay holmes, or a female holmes. sherlock is a modern-day holmes adaptation and my own, personal dream adaptation is a female holmes and a female watson, but I would also love to see a black holmes and watson.

By which she means increasingly dumb things.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, though it's sort of not really a fair comparison, in some ways, since they're such different media. I think my own personal issue is that RDJ/Jude Law have so much chemistry, it's like you're literally left on the edge of your seat during both movies wondering, "OMG, are they going to start making out?" It's that palpable. Whereas, on the other hand, the BBC Sherlock tells fantastic stories -- arguably better thought out and executed than the movies -- but the chemistry between John/Sherlock (Martin/Benedict) just isn't there. At least not in comparison to RDJ/JL.

So, then, I think it largely depends on what you're looking for and what sort of entertainment you want. Both are great in their own way, but if we're talking actual preferences here, then I definitely prefer Ritchie!verse!Sherlock Holmes to BBC!Sherlock.

lololol I also tend to read same genre books/series at the same time, so it doesn't help. XD

As someone who recently went on meds for crippling anxiety..... yeah, kinda yeah. I mean, his idiosyncrasies make him really fun to watch and a Sheldon-on-meds would probably be really boring in the show (unless it's valium Howard slipped him again), but sometimes you can tell that as funny as his obsession with having four people at the Chinese restaurant is, on the inside stuff like that is really distressing to him.

...AUGH. Whatisthatohnononono... The only "new" incarnation of the Looney Toons (and Lola) is the Loonatics Unleashed version. The rest is just a massive NO.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Then what do yo suggest we should do to criminals who can easily escape and repeatedly commit crime? If you can think of a better solution, do speak up.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
How did they manage to fuck with every single thing that was good about her original design?

[identity profile] da-angel729.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I love his 'bad' movies-I really enjoyed Ghost Rider.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. I don't mind the show-bashing, but when you stalk a BNF so that you can secretly mock all their posts among your friends... definitely reminds me of high school. Heck, I think *I* did that in high school. :|

Anyway, the art on this secret is adorable. :)

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh right, that was the story, I think I read like the first two books and the sexual tension between those two was so annoying, I was all just jump her goddammit! (which I think happened at one point?)

Oh right, that was what was so special with the fullblood girl!

(btw thank you for explaining this for me!)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe OP is fat and ugly, so she's keeping her anime in the closet to minimize the embarrassment, drink his piss etc. to keep the relationshit.

[identity profile] imati-lau.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I see what you mean.

I grew up with a higly judgemental family, and they used to tell me I was an immature brat for watching anime (I ended making huge efforts to hide it from them). I cannot deny I ended with a lot of confidence issues about what I like and whatnot. When I started living on my own, also living with my boyfriend, at first it was sooo difficult to tell him, after years of hiding. Luckily for me, my boyfriend was so supportive of me, and no only he has never make fun of me, but he even started watching some anime as well. The fact that he supported me greatly strenghtened our relationship.

To this day, I still struggle to tell anyone that I like anime, but with the years I have found one or two people which I can talk about it. Lately, I've started talking about it with two young girls (a niece and a daughter's friend), and it has been great to support them the way I wished I was when I was their age. I like to be the cool aunt wich you can talk about those things they cannot talk with their parents. :)

Observe closely about how your boyfriend reacts to things you like. Does he make fun of them? Maybe someday change the subject casually to anime. How he reacts? Depending on his reaction you can decide sharing or keep it a secret, which is ok if is not a serious relationship, but you know he'll eventually will have to know if you plan to stay with him.

Likewise to anyone you'd like to tell. Better to be safe than sorry, specially when you know it's a sensitive subject for you.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. You should definitely warn in case some emo teen sees something that could trigger their oh-so-important impulses to self-harm but it's ridiculous to warn for a topic many find sensitive. /fuckingsarcasm

I don't know who she is, sorry. :( Maybe you could ask the author if she knows: [livejournal.com profile] blue_succubus

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, I don't really stick to the same kind of books that much, or well I do read everything written by the same author if I love one of their books, but at last count I am reading 18 books (as in I have started to read all of them) atm, and I can separate them when I am reading, but trying to explain something, especially when I can't remember names of any kind for the life of me is interesting to say the least...

alsdkjf

yes

I did.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I like P. Diddy, but not so much as an actor, but Will would be the perfect Watson. I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE NOW. Why isn't this reaaal?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. You seriously.... seriously don't understand the huge problems inherent in vigilantism?

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree; I mean, I much prefer over-zealous fans, because (at least for the most part) they gain happiness from fandom as opposed to spending all their time wallowing in anger

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Sensitive because they've gone through an abortion or because they are pro-life?

[identity profile] lolofielding.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoy both in different ways. Sherlock feels more like a legit, dramatic adaptation. The movies feel more like a parody. A damn good parody but it's more entertainment than it is srs bsns. For me at least.

[identity profile] neko-9786.livejournal.com 2012-01-15 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with most of this secret and you have I right to be pissed off with where the character is heading but personally I think that even if Robin had the ability to conceive she still never would have. The episode, it seemed to me, was less about Robin wanting to have kids and more about how the average woman faces up to loss in these situations. Yes having the choice taken away from her was upsetting, but that was the entire point. As someone who has also had the choice taken away from her I thought it was a fairly accurate portrayal of what I had felt and am glad, that as subject matter rarely explored in depth, it was on my tv. In the end she felt loss, not from the fact she couldn't have kids, but because the choice had been taken away from her. Also OP, If Robin had really changed in the future to someone family orientated like you suggest then she would have adopted, instead we know she never did and believes it was the right choice.

same here; I don't really care about him one way or the other, but I enjoy the hell out of National Treasure.
