Plain and simple, the PTB just don't give a shit anymore. I can't comment on the specific stuff in the secret, because I haven't watched The Simpsons since it was good - so, like, since 2000 or so.

As far as I'm concerned, the only good thing about time travel not being real is that my middle school-aged self couldn't travel forward ten or fifteen years and find out how much The Simpsons sucks now. She would have been heartbroken.

I haven't been keeping up with the Simpsons, but

• Feathers woven in to hair is a fad right now. It's true that it's a bit insensitive, but it's not full-out racist.

• The word "bitch" isn't sexist. I know it's a negative connotation with an original definition that vaguely has to do with females (specifically female dogs, which I would like to point out, isn't the same thing as a female human, females of certain species, like dogs and cats, have a tendency to be more territorial and rude to other members of their species than the males, or at least have been observed that way. Calling someone a "dog" has also been an insult, too, it's just not as common)

• I fail to see what the problem with drug use is. It's a thing that actually happens.

• Just because these things are in an episode of the simpsons doesn't mean that it's becoming more like family guy, because the writing styles are still COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, the jokes in family guy are never, never relevant to the plots, which are half-baked anyway. South Park has racist and sexist dialogue, along with drug use, that doesn't mean that south park is <>anything like family guy.

• And it ought to be noted that the actions of the characters do not always reflect upon the feelings of the writers.

Any time people jump all over someone for using the term "bitch", I think they've totally lost touch in their pursuit of SJ awareness. It's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard of. It's pejorative language, it's MEANT to be pejorative. Just because it began as a sexist term doesn't mean it's something like "cunt". Stupid.

I have a rule that new Simpsons writers must not be allowed to view anything over the ninth season. This rule will be enforced as soon as I can get my hands on a load of tanks. Until then, OP can come drink heavily with the rest of the fandom.

Uh, the Simpsons have never been a pinnacle of positive representations. Hell, I remember when it first aired it was considered super "racy" and I, along with a lot of other kids my age, weren't allowed to watch it for it being too offensive.

I think the correct question is: What the hell is going on with the past ten years of The Simspons?

Seriously, the show hasn't been goot since about season 12 or 13. The storylines are getting more outlandish and ridiculous to seem 'new', the characters are now annoying caricatures of themselves, and the humor does seem to be copying Family Guy (ugh. seeing such cut-away gags in The Simpsons is just painful).

At this point, I think the writers are just writing whatever shit they can come up with until the show does become unprofitable.

It's so sad how bad The Simpsons is now. Was literally by far and away my favourite show from ages 8 - 16 and then it just...sucked. I watch re-runs on weekends constantly and they NEVER get old and yet the new episodes aren't even 0.000001% as funny as the worst joke from those episodes.

It's really really sad.

Dude, the Simpsons has sucked balls since around 1999. Don't feel cut up about it -- it's for all intents and purposes a completely different show. And watch reruns! Seasons 2-8 was some of the greatest television ever made, IMO.

I have to have a lol at the people who say the Simpsons sucks now. The Simpsons isn't a show that's stuck in the 90's, it's a show meant to be contemporary, it has to keep up with the times to be relevant and watchable for today. It's possible that the current writers suck, but the times I do catch it, I find it enjoyable.

Of course, I still don't like that they retconned everything from the kids' birth years and earlier.

I'm no longer watching The Simpsons. I've been ignoring the last... three seasons or so.

However, whenever there's a new Sideshow Bob episode? Then I'll watch. As sucky as the new seasons are, the Sideshow Bob episodes still make me laugh.
