I wouldn't say that OP "should' be required to inform anyone about their abortion.

If OP had collected the money for the (legit) purpose of buying a computer part, and then some RL tragedy had struck and OP had to use the money toward that purpose, would they be required to tell people those personal details, too?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-10 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm actually fairly certain what the op did is illegal in some states - assuming she lives in the usa. your example isn't illegal.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-10 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

So... not only should OP be required to give up personal information to people on the internet, she should be jailed for it?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
yeah? it's fraudulent

DA

Guess what, she didn't have to, but she chose to give false information. That's all on her, and makes her a pretty shitty person.

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] amethyst-rei.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, poor, poor OP. She can take money from people on the Internet but she can't be honest to said people on the Internet giving her said money?

Nice.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Fraud is fraud. Intent and cause worthiness are irrelevant.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-10 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a difference between knowingly deceiving people to get their money and doing it due to unforeseeable circumstances

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps the pregnancy was unexpected. Some people don't have abortion money squirreled away in case of emergency.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
the second part of OP's secret implies they knew about the pregnancy at the time they asked for money and knowingly lied about needing computer parts in order to get money to have an abortion

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Judging by the comments here? I can't say I blame OP. If the only way to get money for an abortion is to get donations from people online, and there's a chance that people won't give to such a controversial issue, better to lie than be forced to have an unwanted child.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
You mean, forced to *deliver* an unwanted child, yes? Because nowhere is there a law that says you have to keep the baby you don't want.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Have as in forced to carry and deliver said unwanted child. There's no reason you should have to do that, either.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
And, abortions not being illegal in the US (granted, I'm just assuming OP is American), OP does not HAVE to carry a baby and deliver it. But the right to have an abortion does not mean the right to a free abortion.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't free. It was paid for. OP presumably did not have the money for the abortion, and needed it, so as not to be forced to have an unwanted child.

Most people who consider abortion don't want to spend 9+ months carrying something inside they're not even gonna keep and many certainly want to avoid an agonizing birth. It's physical and mental abuse for someone who doesn't want to give birth.
And do you honestly believe that putting a baby up for adoption is the solution for everything? It may work for some, doesn't make it okay for everyone.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
it doesn't grow in a pot in a cupboard for nine months, you know. There's a bit more to it than delivery. If she doesn't want it inside her, she shouldn't have to have it inside her.

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
This, basically. I hate lying, but it sure beats bringing an unwanted kid into the world.

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] amethyst-rei.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Too fucking bad, then. No one is obligated to donate to anything they don't want to. The OP lied to get what she wanted-- to friends who were only trying to help, no less-- and that's not right. And the fact that you condone her behavior doesn't speak well of the kind of person you are, frankly.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I like me better than you. Actually, I used to like reading your comments here but now I'm judging the shit out of you, as well.

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] amethyst-rei.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I'm crushed that someone who condones lying, deceit, and taking advantage of good people is judging me.

...It's kind of flattering, come to think of it.

Seriously, though, are you just not hearing yourself? You're basically saying that it's okay to step on and use people who're trying to help you to achieve your goals. Since when is trampling over genuinely kind people ever okay?

And for someone who is so obviously "pro-choice", you're awfully against other people's choice to not approve of abortion. In fact, you pretty much said that it was okay to deceive those people because they wouldn't have donated anyway, as if they shouldn't have had a choice in the matter because they weren't on board with you and your ideals.

God. I can't even.

Seriously?

The OP used their money-- the LEAST she could have done was be honest about it. If she needed money for an abortion then she should have 'woman up' and said so. Since when is lying and deceiving, especially to friends being generous, justifiable in any way?

Your little hypothetical scenario is nice and all, but that didn't happen. OP went in lying, and there's no excuse for that.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
There's a time issue with abortions. It's not like she could have waited indefinitely to save enough money for one.

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] amethyst-rei.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
So what? That's the OP's problem. It doesn't excuse the fact that she lied to and deceived her friends.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
If I get shot or end up in a car accident that's my problem too, but I get immediate medical care anyway. I might get stuck with a huge bill afterwards, but they don't deny me emergency treatment.

A system where people can't get an abortion they need because they can't afford it is the real problem here.

The OP desperate thing during a desperate time.
