You know, I often question myself whether I want a manga version of the Sailor Moon anime...

...then I remember that I dislike manga!Rei, that manga Neo Queen Serenity was a horrible mother for Chibi Usa as far as I'm concerned and that the villains majorly sucked. As in - like no serious villain ever did in any animanga.

And then all is well for me again.

I'd love any kind of Sailor Moon anime adaptation that actually followed the manga,
especially for the Stars arc.

Me? I honestly disliked the manga. I felt that it was a let down, and didn't engage me the way the anime did.

Which is kind of funny when you consider that I actually love the musicals a lot, and some of them were clearly more based on the manga.

I haven't seen the musicals, but THIS.

I don't... hate the manga, it just didn't grab me like the anime did. Hell, I loved how the anime expanded on the villains, since most of them in the manga show up for maybe five pages before being killed, you know?

The musicals are the ultimate version of SM for me. I'll take the FFS finale performance alone over half the anime any day.

I think a redo would be fun. At the same time, I wish series' like Rose of Versailles could just be brought over to the USA at all. I guess at least SM got that, even if it did get a bit butchered in the process. xD;;

But I mean, even DBZ got something like a redo, so.

I just wish they'd followed the manga more closely when it came to Supers S and Stars. The Outers were totally neglected for the Supers S anime and the Starlights dominated Stars way too much. If they could re-do anything in the show, I'd prefer that. I don't really like much of the early manga.

I can't say I want an exact anime rendition of the manga; the original anime gave such great character growth that I felt the Senshi (besides Usagi) never got in the manga. Also, I'm such a sucker for the Nephlite/Naru sub-plot in the first 25 or so episodes. XP; And the trans-Sailor Stars didn't actually bother me much; with all the magic in the show, why not be able to disguise oneself as the other gender in an actual physical body?

But getting the Asteroid Senshi in a new version? I could totally go for that. I was always curious about what they'd be like with more time...

Why can't the anime be the anime and the manga be the manga? The anime had plenty of good things going for it and I sure as hell wouldn't want to see those pushed aside and ignored in a remake just so it can be closer to what the manga was. Besides, the manga villains were really kind of boring and one dimensional, including the Amazoness Quartet. I never really cared all that much about them being senshi.

I guess I'm joining another chorus that preferred the anime to the manga. Usually it's the other way around for me, as most often the original source material is better than the adaptions. I originally wrote manga, then thought back to the cases where it was true for games too. I preferred both Persona 4 and TotA in their game format over the anime and manga, though I won't say I hated the adaptions. I just disliked how they left a lot out and changed.

But in Sailor Moon's case and in the case of Yu-Gi-Oh!, I always felt the animes were superior to the source material.

I didn't like the manga. Maybe it's because I grew up with the anime and I couldn't warm up to most of the characters in the manga, but it doesn't appeal to me.

I'm surprised people here liked the anime better. I never got into the manga so I don't know many of the differences between the two. But with DBZ getting a fresh shot of life in it (with original actors and streamlined storytelling and everything) I can't help but feel sad about Sailor Moon being left behind, so any new version of the anime would make me jump for joy.
