FLATULENT? That's not likeable. I have a friend who farts all the time, and it sucks. My cat also farts.

If this makes me a feminist, there's something wrong with this world.

What's wrong with this world is that it's turned "feminist" into such a bad word that even people who are feminist (like you) don't want to say they are.

Aww, I've always loved the name. I love fun. We are fun. I enjoy fun. It just makes me smile it's so silly and simple.

Because femininity is weak and disgusting and all should aspire to be masculine, don'tcha know.

Seconded. People are people, and it's perfectly natural for you to not like some people, and therefore not like some characters, whether they are female or not. Acting like you're obliged to like characters just for being female is quite dehumamizing and sexist.

However, it doesn't hurt to check yourself for a moment before declaring your hate to think about whether you hate a female character just because she's female. (And the same thing can be said for a male character, or a POC character, or an unattractive character, etc, if you have a habit of unfairly hating them).

I wish this piece-of-shit book would just go away. Fan fiction should not be on the bestseller list.

Re: About the het vs. slash vs. femmeslash vs. gen thing

[personal profile] kelincihutan 2012-07-01 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sort of #2, in that I'll read most stories with a good plot, but I do go to preference first, as anon1 said. Gen, then het, then (if it's really good) slash. But yeah, it's a time management vs. good story thing. If I am going to read something, I don't want to feel like I've put the time in on something I won't enjoy. So, either the work is of my preference, or is so good that I don't mind the preferences it goes against.

I think the next phase of the shipping wars after this will be multishippers vs. OTP shippers, though. There seems to be some ~*TENSION*~ arising in that direction. :D

that would be my guess.

Don't worry, she'll be a one-hit wonder and no one will even remember this book in 5 years.

Same here, OP. This scene is the one scene that stuck with me more than anything else. I don't usually cry much, but this scene had me in tears. You can tell that Noatak could have stopped Tarrlok if he wanted, but he didn't. Because even if they died, they would die together, as brothers.

It kind of makes me think of Ed and Al from FMA, but with a grim twist to it.

Ha hahhhh I forgot that was today. I'll just pretend these I was baking brownies for a special occasion. Or maybe I was all along, subconsciously. Idc.

I like Eliot, but he's definitely not my favorite. I detest Nate, though. To the point that I actually stopped watching because the actor and character just annoyed me so much it overpowered any joy I was getting from that show.

Another unpopular opinion, I loved Tara. She was awesome. I wish she'd make a guest appearance on some random job.

How about the dictionary? Note how the organized movement with the capital letter Feminism is the secondary meaning.

Agreed. My first thought looking at this secret was, "OP is not an Avatar fan, I note."

AYRT

On some level, I do understand that. I mean, if I think about people like my grandmother, who I know marched for equal pay back in the day (and called herself a feminist), I understand where it's coming from. But when I compare that with my experiences with people who have embraced the label, there's a serious disconnect there. I just can't reconcile the ideals with what I've seen as the reality.

It kind of feels like seeing something on television that's totally awesome, and then you go and get it, and it's kind of like, "well, that's not what it was like in the commercial/program!"

Or Homura breaks and the world (and maybe most of the neary galaxy) ends.

I did have fun before the finale imagining what wishes would solve this.
*Kyuubey's people never existed - 1) genocide 2) humans still in caves 3) universe still dies

*Homura never became a magical gir1 - 1) Homura most likely dies 2) Every magical girl from the first time line that died dies

*Magical girl project never came into being - 1) Humans still in caves 2) universe still dies or Kyuubey's people probably do something else fucked up

It was fun to guess, but most of the endings I thought of were much more depressing than the actual ending.

What were some endings other people thought of?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Great selection of female characters. Emily and Natasha have very much been a part of my learning to reappreciate female characters and feel more okay about being female.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Given how strong an aversion you have to the word feminist, I think it's safe to say you're not one.

If anything, you sound antifeminist.

I'm not involved with the fandom, but I do love Eliot. Just not more than any of the other characters. These guys are such a great team and all have their different personalities and their own skills, and I think for the most part I appreciate them equally.

I DO wish Eliot would get more growth as a character though. I think he has had bits here and there, but it's still noticeably less than the others characters.

Regarding "multishippers vs. OTP shippers" - Seriously? I thought multishippers were a pretty mellow bunch. I mean, I've never seen someone get called an idiot or homophobe for only shipping a character with one other character. It's definitely not one of the first things that comes to mind when I think of shipping-related wank.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica or Magical Girl Madoka Magica. It's an anime series that came out in Japan last year. Think magical girl series where the source of the powers does not have your best interest in mind.

Arguing about shipping is pretty dumb in general but I feel like more people are open to multi-shipping. And no, I don't read everything that has a good plot. A fic might have a good plot but if I have no interest in it then I won't read it. I barely read het and OT3 stuff because I don't care for it. I don't expect everyone to be the same as me though.
