why so much Teen Wolf today? i feel like i've missed something?

It's International Werewolf Appreciation Day!

Teen Wolf fandom has been particularly annoying of late tbh. Especially all that ~Sterek is good for gay rights~ thing that the weird fans have been harping on about.

Not a huge Stiles lover, definitely not into Sterek, not a Scott hater, but I objectively believe Scott is a horrible friend. I mean, it's not his fault, he's got a lot of really important stuff going on right now that he can't ignore, but he asks a whole lot of Stiles and never seems to offer as much back in return. And that's when he's ditching him for werewolf stuff. It's even worse when he's ditching Stiles just to hang out with Allison.

Their relationship is asymmetrical. Scott takes way more than he gives. Luckily for him, Stiles is cool with it.

Oh, and Stiles could never carry the show by himself.

Also, yeah, I like Stiles fine and I can read Sterek if I have to, but I can live without both of them, and I can definitely live without the people who think Stiles is a magical doe-eyed pixie boy.

I still like him, but dear god the fandom really did put me off quite a bit. Sterek must dominate at least 80% of the fandom, which lbr inevitably leads to a lot of obnoxiousness. Then to add insult to injury most of it is so OOC it hurts. I can't remember the last time I saw a live-action character so blatantly uke-fied by such a large proportion of the fandom.

I feel kind of bad about it because hey, good actor, well-written character, but what can you do.

(I do however completely disagree with the popular SJ notion that the only reason Scott isn't more popular is because he's PoC? lol no, he might've got a lot better in S2, but in S1 he was a pretty fucking dull character sry2say.)

Also I shipped Shassy because it was hot and GuJubees (Gus/Juliet) are my OTP of OTPs.

idgaf about Teen Wolf but OMG YES regarding the nonsense ship that is Shawn/Lassie. I am baffled by the lack of quality Shawn/Gus in Psych fandom. I'd like to think that it's because it's "too obvious" and noooot because people are intimidated or whatever about writing interracial slash.

Stiles appears to be about as sick of Scott talking about Allison as I am, so there's that. I'm not caught up on this show, not yet really in the fandom, and it won't surprise me at all if his character is a bit overhyped, but he would still make a more interesting main character than Scott and there's nothing wrong with thinking that.

idk, I shipped "shassy" because they had crazy hot foe yay (especially in the first two seasons).

With ships involving BFFs, I tend to go back and forth. I don't ship things like Shawn/Gus, Harry/Ron, Wally/Dick (from the YJ cartoon) or JD/Turk but I do ship things like Virgil/Richie (I still love them so hard, come back fandom) and...actually Virgil/Richie might be the only childhood friends ship that I'm into. I just don't usually dig that kind of thing.

I think you are wrong. It's not enough to be a POC or other minority to catch people's attention. Imagination doesn't work like that. You have to have a personality that catchs people's attention.

People ship Stiles because he's an energetic, emotionally dynamic character, who has a strong voice, and an easy to relate to backstory. He reacts strongly to his environment. That makes him the character equivalent of a shiny, amusing object. Derek makes a good straight man: dark, broody, intense. They play well off of each other. This is a popular dynamic in a lot of fandoms -- the straight man and the clown.

Het combos -- well, het. You aren't going to get slash shippers in a slash generous fandom to write het (though there is a fair amount as side pairings)

Boyd -- spoke, what, three words all season 2 and got to look menacing by Derek's side twice. Writing him is like writing an OC. I realize there was a conflict between the actors schedule that made giving him much screen time problematic, but still, Alison's mom got more to show more personality.

Danny -- I have seen fics shipping Danny fairly frequently. But even there, apparently from the rumors Danny's actor was difficult to work with and thus didn't get much of a role. He's vastly underutilized in the show, and has almost no lines. Sometimes that happens. Other than kind of being there to occasionally play straight man to either Stiles or Scott, he just doesn't pop with personality. So again, writing him is a bit like writing an original character.

I like Stiles...but find him quite unattractive. Could be that he is rather boyish looking, and I've only seen one picture that I could possibly find him attractive in. Makes it very hard for me to ship him with anyone but the other young cast members.

I love Stiles but he can't be the main character because it works best as an ensemble show. It's so much more interesting when it's really involving a little bit of everyone.
Scott's a good friend, has his slip ups but w/e him and Stiles work it out. Their practically family.

Sterek is popular because Derek pushes Stiles into walls and threatens to put his mouth on Stiles throat. Stiles made him wear his shirts and they're just generally hilarious together. People eat that up.

There's Danny/Jackson, Danny/Stiles out there, I know, I've read it. And personally I ship Stiles/Lydia...

But seriously don't let fandom cloud what's actually going on in the show. That's a quick way to discontentment unless your good at blocking out when they jump on a head canon bandwagon you disagree with. (Like that fact that fanfic ignores that Derek's actually a pretty big jerk most of the time)

LOL at this secret coming after the one before it. Anyway, I just have to say that I like Stiles and all but it does piss me off when they act like he's so flawless. I still can't get over the fact that he couldn't care less about Erica and Boyd still being kidnapped. Not only did he not even try to save them but he didn't even tell anyone that might try to help them.

I'm really happy that I never really got into the fandom. It was amusing to watch the show as some sort of trashy lulzy entertainment on lazy evenings because you don't need too many active brain cells to follow it, but the fandom seems to be full of pricks. And dear lord, again with the "all slashers are racist" bullshit. Maybe if you understood that POC are not a shiny fetish object but need actual character traits to be interesting and pairable you'd see why the pairings are so rare.

The comparison with Shawn/Gus vs. Shawn/Lassiter strikes me as odd.

Stiles and Danny have had, what, 5 scenes together in 2 seasons of the show? I know he's canonically gay, but the reason fandom has cast him in the role of "nicest guy ever" is that he barely had enough lines in the show to create a personality. And I'm saying that as someone who likes Danny.
