I adore that movie. It's so good. I wouldn't lose respect for someone necessarily, but I'd be surprised if he/she didn't feel some strong emotion after watching it.

... get over it. I have people I can't get along with, no matter what. I don't go around making secrets saying that "OMG THAT PERSON RUINED THIS CHARACTER FOR ME!" Mostly because, *gasp* I don't read their journal anymore. I've left them to their sandbox. Go to your corner of the sandbox and STFU. You can't get along with her, so stop saying things about her and move on. Don't like Van anymore because of her? Then get the hell out of the fandom and go to something else shiny. And don't pay attention to whether or not she's said anything about it. Go like it because you like it and stop bothering her. Waiting for what you deem to be a sincere apology? ... I'm about ready to say GTFO of my species. You won't get what you want unless you give her a script of what you want her to say, and then you'll bitch because she only read what you gave her and noooo it wasn't sincere. Get. Over. It. Move. On.

And if she's in another fandom you move into? Ignore her and play with your toys. I do that with the people I can't get along with anymore. So what if I've had a bloody fight with them and feel horribly betrayed? They didn't do anything to the fandom itself. Enjoy fandom and ignore the people you don't like.

Am I saying either of you were in the right or wrong? Nope. Just both of you should move on. Shit happened. You can't console your differences. Move on. It's not hard.

It's definitely possible to, I don't know, like what you fucking like and not care what other people think. Your work in school should be enough already to cement your 'smart' image, and forget anyone who thinks otherwise.

The movie is called "Iron-Jawed Angels". HBO commissioned it about five years ago, did a big campaign with a makeup company (I forget which) and then promptly forgot about it. It chronicles the stuggles of the suffragettes, notably Alice Paul, during the early years of the feminist movement. It's an amazing film; Hilary Swank imbues Alice Paul with a lot of humanity and likeability. Ignore the pasted-on romance subplot (it didn't happen in real life) and concentrate on the amazing period recreations instead. :)

I understand your feeling so so soooo much. It's suck an ANNOYING thing to happen. Your friends have the right to talk about whatever they want, sure, but if they're lefting you out, they're not nice. My suggestion is to just leave them alone and do something else whenever they start obsessivly talk about the fandom. They probably won't stop anyway, but you'll spare yourself the frustration

I'm younger than you, and my perspective is going to be pretty different, but I think I know what you mean. I only got into anime and manga recently, while I've been (and I know I sound like a total ass for saying this, sorry) a really smart and studious person for as long as I can remember. So it gets hard for me too, to conciliate the two parts, especially when people in the real world think that liking anime and manga makes me something less than what I am. Um. But if you don't feel like you have both parts of your life now, then you don't have to. Don't give up what you love-NEVER do that- but if the reactions of others make you uncomfortable, watch and read your stuff in private until you feel ready to be open about everything. You shouldn't have to give up your image or your hobby, is what I'm saying. And you don't, actually.
