I know that feeling too well.

I agree as well. And I think very few people I know in real life will ever understand that.

Er, dressing up like characters for cons has been around a lot longer than the word's been in our (and by our I mean Western) vocabulary. We just now have a specific word for it, but it didn't introduce the concept.

4. HELLS YES. Itoshiki~♥♥♥♥

6. THANK-YOU. I wonder that too. Do their parents know about these dangerous quests their kids keep going on?

7. Ugh. Totally bothers me. It wouldn't bother me if people credited the artist, because most of the time the art is so awesome I NEED TO SEE MORE.

22. Sorry, your friends sound stupid. Get new friends.

8. What movie is that?

(Anonymous) 2007-08-16 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Iron Jawed Angels. It's an HBO movie about the Suffrage movement in the 1910s. Women were treated like animals, jailed and affectively tortured for peacefully protesting for a right they technically already had.

[identity profile] amandier.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)

This post mostly annoyed me. ): Sad

4. The fact this is in a secret makes me sad. ):
I like my series obscure and remotely unknown.

7. Ugh, can we give it a rest already? YES USING FANART IS BAD BECAUSE OMG SOMEONE SPENT HOURS WORKING ON IT
Don't you think that making the series itself took longer? Christ, if it's an American artist, most people will credit and the problem with chans is the lack of sources for any pictures ever. People use doujinshi all the time too. That's fanart too. Untie your panties, seriously.

22. I know exactly how you feel.
It really sucks for people to think less of you because you enjoy a series/movie/comic/whatever in a particular art style. I've had exactly the same problem, so I really feel for you.

That's what I really hate about the chans. The Japanese are more anal about this stuff than we are. Most clearly state on their website that they don't want their art posted elsewhere, and many will actually shut their sites down if they see it being used for icons or whatever. They won't give a damn if you found it on *chan or not.

I think that is where the most of the wank comes from.

Personally I couldn't care less if someone used fanart in their icons. It's when people use them after the artist clearly states on their site that they don't want their art to be used that I have the problem. Regardless if the person found it on 4chan or whatever.

Doujinshi...meh. If you paid for it or someone else who paid for it offered it to you, do what you want.

3. I thought it was cute. ♥

7. Not this again. Fanart icon just BECAUSE. When you've got no art of your favorite character, what the hell are you supposed to do? And don't give me that "draw your own." Not all of us are gifted with super-speshul art skillxorz.

10. Oh jesus. Get over it. I hate to say it, but that's really fucking immature. I might even know who you are and I still say this.

22. Honest to god they're not mutually exclusive. Then again, offline I'm pretty closeted about it myself. It's the batshit fans that give the sane, successful ones a bad name.

[identity profile] ensuing.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Re 7: Or you could... not make an icon? Or.... just credit the artist? You're not entitled to other people's stuff, and if you do, you can at least credit.

NUMBER THREE

[identity profile] icthyopook.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
omfg who are you TELL ME SO WE CAN BE BEST FRIENDS!

I'm so in love with Cars. I'm a HUGE Pixar fan and my favorite film of theirs is actually Finding Nemo, but Cars did something special for me. I'm always really disappointed when I hear other people who claim to be big Pixar fans say- "Yeah, I love all of their movies... except for Cars. I didn't like it very much." D: I have to think: "WHAAAT? WHYYY?!" Now I do understand why, I just... completely disagree. :(

Anyway, I want you to know that you rock and that you might want to guard that cardboard cutout because IMMA COMIN' FOR IT, EVEN IF I HAVE NO IDEA WHO OR WHERE YOU ARE!

D: srsly come out of hiding. PLEEEEASE? <3

Re: NUMBER THREE

(Anonymous) 2007-08-16 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oooo yeah my other favourite is Finding Nemo (I can watch both it and Cars on repeat for hours honestly). :D

I still don't understand why people don't like Cars...well other than to SPITE ME (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS LOL).

Maybe I'll come out of hiding...maybe....if someone randomly friends you in the next few days...you'll know it's me, hahaha.

7- IAWTC SO MUCH

I spend so much time pulling people up on it, and I get so much shit nearly every damn time. Of course, that means I'm trying to be a martyr, right? >___>

I just feel like someone should say something. Even though it's tiring, and I dread the possibility of wank. >_>

8- What movie is it?

19- I'm not into American comics, but that'd really piss me off too. Hell, I don't like it when p[people go to Anime cons as US chara's either.

22- That's...really silly. You don't have to give up something you like just because of what other people think about it.

Unless they get a shiny new fandom to play with, it'll never pass. A similar thing happened to me. I waited months for them to stop it, even went so far as to voice my displeasure but...it never ended. It's still going, and I still have no idea what they're talking about. I just couldn't get into it.

Depressing but true. But maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

Different anon here, not the secret-poster

(Anonymous) 2007-08-15 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's exactly like that with my circle of friends, too. They tend to fangirl over the newest series, then mostly abandon it later when something new comes along. I just can't get into the stuff that they do, so when I try to fangirl over my older fandoms it feels like I'm annoying them, because I know they don't care.

[identity profile] valkyriur.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
#1, don't be sad emo kid. Seriously though, fandom is like real life. People perpetuate drama and all sorts of the worst kind of people gather online, just like in real life.

Sal agrees with Bunnie

[identity profile] insanepurin.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. If anything, sometimes I take breaks offline because of the drama on the Internet and such. Real life has its problems, but at least you don't have the globe on your shoulders.

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
2. No. Some people just like to post icons and really don't care about icons because maybe someone will like what they see and use a few. Plus, most comments are just, "OMG these are pretty! Taking a few with credit~" so maybe it gets tiresome of hearing the same thing over and over? I mean, it's really nice but when it goes on for three pages. .___.

6. You know, I've been wondering about parents, too, these days.

7. 4chan isn't an excuse lol. Most people do get their pictures from 4chan. I do; fanart or not.

14. DO NOT FEAR. ASUKA FUCKING RULES. ♥

19. I don't get it either. Comic book con = dressing up as a comic book character. Not showing up as Kakashi or Ichigo. And I will never get why at anime conventions I see people dressed up as character from Harry Potter. HP isn't a manga or anime. *ducks for cover*

20. I've done all these memes so far. :') Yeah, I'm insecure but I wasn't even thinking of "OMG I NEEEEED LOVE" because it was interesting to see people who hardly talk to me on my own LJ comment in these memes and tell me nice things. I mean, half the time I thought these people were just lurkers.

21. I get the feeling, too. A lot. I love the picture you used, too. ♥ Do you have the original? :O

22. Your "friends" are jerks then. Don't do anything they want you to do. Do what you want to do. I can't really say, "STICK WITH ANIME AND MANGA!" because it's all really up to you.

[identity profile] daphhime.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
19. But...arin't Ichigo and Kakashi comic characters too? And don't give the the whole "but comics and manga are different" thing. Manga is a type of comic. Plus anime/manga companies have booths at comic cons too, at least as far as I know.

For the record, I don't care about US origin cosplay at anime cons. Heck I kinda like it sometimes. Breath of fresh air from all the Naruto/Bleach/FF whatever cosplay.

*also ducks*

13, 19, 20

[identity profile] icthyopook.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
13. I'm sure there was a good reason they got banned. Whenever I hear about someone getting banned, it's always for doing some idiotic crap. Good for you deciding to go, SC is awesome! :D

19. I really hated seeing so much anime cosplay at Comic-Con this year too. I wouldn't mind if there was also a lot of american comics/ etc. cosplay, but I saw more crappy Kingdom Hearts costumes like I do at EVERY ANIME CONVENTION EVER than I did american and it's just boring now, especially since the costumes were baddd. (The ones I saw, anyway.)

Like I said, I wouldn't mind so much if there was more american cosplay than the anime, but anime is so huge now that I'm seeing more of it and it is pretty annoying to see Chii number five-million-two-hundred when I'd rather see an awesome Hellboy cosplayer or something. D: I mean, even though Comic-Con and other general comic conventions have a lot of anime-related things now, the coneventions are meant to be MORE about celebrating AMERICAN comics.

And sort of related: It's really annoying to run into people at regular comic cons who ONLY like anime. WTF?

20. Those memes are kinda starting to bother me too. D: Anyone who needs to be told at least once a week by all their internet buddies that they're awesome is either pathetically insecure or really superficial. One of those memes everyone once in awhile is cool, but more and it's kind of like... "KAY, TIRED OF TELLING YOU YOU'RE AWESOME NOW. RUNNING OUT OF THINGS TO SAY. D:"

19. I AGREE a;sldkfj I like both, but stick to your respective cons, okay? You've got your own. (this would be general "you" of course) I go to comic cons for comic books dammit :[ (and sci-fi but that's because I don't think there are very many good sci-fi cons in my area).
