HAHAHA, I DO IT TOO! Because seriously, most of my best friends are people I met through fandom. Screw my classmates!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who does it. (:

That's so nice to know that I'm not the only paranoid person. It helps that I'm the only one who could contact my fandom friends so if anything DID happen, they might never know.

[identity profile] amandier.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
5. YES. I personally think Dolfies are ridiculously creepy and a rip-off. I'd tell my friends that, but they'd maim me.

11. There are people like that? LAME.

17. I do worry about that too. :[

19. OMG, my sister and I ADORE that scene! And he does remind me of my dad!

6. IAWTS

11. Hell yes. I hate people who bash him.

12. What's the anime?

18. I can't understand why you hate on the fandom just for the fic, but yes, the pairing is very plausible.

5. I think everyone has some sort of big ticket item they save up for. What's the difference between saving up for a doll and saving up for a big television? I saved up for a long time for one of those dolls, using birthday and holiday money. So what?

Sure there are idiots who should be using their money more wisely, but you can say the same with everything -- televisions, game systems, computers, fancy car parts, whatever. Why do other people's financial problems matter to you any way? I mean, if people are going to be dumb with money, that's their own problem. No reason to get your own panties in a twist about it, you know? Unless it's like... your parents or spouse or something. But random internet people? Get over it, seriously.

(Also, not all of us BJD-fans are weirdos who think their dolls are real and do photostories. To me it's just another collector's item, sort of a big action figure. And I fucking love action figures.)

14. !!!!!!!!!!! OMG I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THOSE MAGAZINES! <3

17. I think about this too. Maybe I should write a hidden note to my mom saying "BTW, here's my password -- get on my LJ and let my online friends know that I am DEAD."

Re: 5

[identity profile] biscayne.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And people deserve to buy things every now and then that make them happy, right? I don't buy the dolls but I have a friend who does and she loves her dolls very much.

#1,

I actually knew somebody who started learning Japanese so he could play video games in the original Japanese language. Not too long after I learned this, he had the nerve to say all the people who are learning it just to watch anime were horrible. There wasn't much of a difference.

Whatever the genre is, I think it's respectable that somebody would want to learn a different language in order to understand something in its original language. Whether they're learning Sanskrit or Hebrew for religious texts or Japanese or French for newer works.

Re: #1

[identity profile] yami-chan.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Or people who learn Greek and Latin to read mythology. But yeah it's no big deal. I don't know why people think less of fans who do that. What other reason is there to learn another language but to understand the people, and the media produced in that language?

21. How is it not fantasy? Or literature, for that matter? I mean sure, it isn't the best thing ever, and there are tons of series that are better and whatnot, but that doesn't make it not fantasy, and not literature. (Unless we are talking Literature, which is just another can of worms.)

(Anonymous) 2007-08-28 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we're talking Fantasy and Literature: the snooty academic classifications of genre and what is and is not literary art. The punch line being that those who are taking the class just because Harry Potter is on the booklist don't realise that it's the snooty academic distinction my lecturer is making, and so get pretty needlessly worked up over it.

19. OLIVER! :DDDD. Ajfsdjfsklsdfksldjf I love that movie so so so much ♥. I am glad it got a secret 8D. Oliver~ Oliver~ never before has a boy wanted more! C'MON GUYS I can't be the only one who knows it, lets do a medley of awesome Oliver songs T^T.

1. There's nothing wrong with learning Japanese for anime-watching and manga-reading purposes.

4. YAWN.

11. ...wait, people say that? I thought they were too busy complaining that Chii's a panty-flashing fanservice toy.

[identity profile] sister-dear.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Your teacher is so right. I enjoyed Harry Potter, but it isn’t 'true' fantasy and it’s DEFINITELY not literature. And maybe the wank would be more hilarious if I –could- see it in person- as it is, it’s just made me sick of the fandom. :(

Re: 21

[identity profile] laurus-nobilis.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
it isn’t 'true' fantasy

What would you call 'true' fantasy? I've heard terms like "epic fantasy", or even "high fantasy", but I've never heard anyone say that books wiht magic and mythical creatures aren't fantasy.

Just to clarify, because sometimes it's hard to figure out tone over the 'net - I'm not trying to be sarcastic or rude. Just curious here. :) I'm a native Spanish speaker and I've noticed that English terms for literary genres don't always translate exactly like ours.

[identity profile] kurachu.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Same here. I wanted to take Japanese because I was sick of Spanish (too easy) and French (waaaaaay too hard). The moment I stepped into the classroom, though, it was like FUCK ME SIDEWAYS WITH A SHOVEL because the freakishly obsessed girl was... just... CREEPY. And I'm stuck with her in homeroom this year.

5. Those things are creepy as fuck. It's like the Chuckie doll for Super Japanophiles.

11. People say he doesn't deserve her? That's... strange to me. Hideki is such a nice guy from what I've seen.

oh more for 5

10. THANK YOU. ♥♥♥

17. I think about that too, sometimes. :/ I think my Niki (who I know IRL) would probably alert the few people we share between flists, and then those people would spread it through the fandoms that she's not part of? Maybe? I don't know. I feel bad for thinking about it, it's nice to know other people do, too. *hugs*
