+1. Thank you.

It's not the advice that's the problem; it's the implication that if you didn't follow it, becoming a victim was your fault.

There are ways to effectively protect someone on an anon meme, or someone being attacked anywhere online. The best and easiest way is to pretend you don't care either way but to make inflammatory and challenging comments that deflect and channel all the anger to you. Unanonymous you. Anon memes are easily distracted, especially by a shinier target.

But I think that might be asking a little much of OP here.

Tumblr woes

I would totally follow you back, you seem really cool and I like your graphics, but you reblog so much from that show without consistently tagging it and I just caaaaan't.

mte. I don't know what sample size OP is going off of but I don't think it's a big one.

oh "GROSS" again I see

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Really? One of the worst single issues? I mean, I can see why someone might not like it, but at least it didn't have anything offensive in it and the art was pretty solid...

Ultra-religious Christians: vote to send us back to a time when women died or were rendered sterile from illegal back-alley abortions, send lobbyists to countries like Uganda to encourage laws that make homosexuality a capital crime, think their children should be able to bully gay kids to the point of suicide in the name of "freedom of religion"

"Militant" atheists: write books about atheism and tell people on the internet that they're dumb for believing in God

Yeah, I can totally see why you think the atheists are the worse ones. 9_9

You're dumb as rocks. If this secret complained about Jasmine being considered the hottest (which would be equally valid because OP's claim is baffling and does not jibe with any reality I know), you'd be saying it's because she was exoticised and objectified -- Orientalism!! If it were Sleeping Beauty, it's because she's the Caucasian ideal -- Racism! Tiana, stereotype of the animalistically carnal black woman -- RACISM AGAIN. Belle -- male fantasy of dominance and owning a woman -- MISOGYNY

You could explain every single one with social justice crap. Doesn't make any of it true or sensical.

It is pretty annoying, and technically is skin off my nose since I'm the one you asked and who answered. Why not just google? you come off as pretty lazy.

Not... really, though

"Santa Baby" SOUNDS like a good example in theory but it's... not. Anything from Britney Spears pre-2002 would be better.

I'm sorry, Anon. I hope you can find a support network to help you process this. As other people have said, medication has come a long way in the past few decades, and they're doing some amazing things with bone marrow transplants, so stay positive. *hugs if wanted*

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, OP, that isn't very nice of you. That 'nice' person went out of their way to help you, yet you have blown them off in what could be considered a worse way than the 'bitch' person did to the rest of you.

Being nice to the person who helped you out is the least you can do. You can still be wary of them if you are not 100% sure of them, but kindness, especially after they helped you out, costs nothing.

You should feel bad. But you can still do the right thing.

I love it because THE QUEEN WAS IN A JAMES BOND SKIT!!!!!!!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
That...makes the lyrics make absolutely no more sense. I think I'll stick with OP's interpretation.

Re: I think I might be losing my faith

[personal profile] cassandraoftroy 2013-02-12 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is, atheism really isn't about "faith." For me, at least, it's about not having any reason to suppose the contrary. Throughout human history, people have invented gods to explain things they didn't understand -- weather, fate/chance, the origins of the universe, why bad things happen to good people. The thing is, the more humans learned about the world, the fewer things these gods were directly responsible for. We know why it rains now, and what causes earthquakes, and why the sun rises every day. We don't know everything yet, but it seems far more likely to me that the trend will continue, that things we once attributed to "God" will eventually be discovered to have wholly natural causes, rather than that this time, we've hit on the first example of real divine intervention. That's my take, at any rate.

I've seen a picture of the VA who did Pocahontas - she's practically identical, which made me realise a lot of Disney cartoon characters are drawn to look (more or less) like their VAs. Even Genie looks like Robin Williams - an admittedly caricatured Robin Williams, but still.

Whump. I think it's too cutesy a word to describe depictions of emotional or physical beat-downs, unless it was used in describe situations that were more comedic in nature.

Lover and Broken has been tainted by years of coming across it in bad fanfic. I just... No.

Pretty sure there's a fireplace & wood-stove business not far from where I live called, "The Afterglow."

Man, I love the word Thump. I like onomatopoeic words in general. Makes things come alive in my head.

I can get on board with this.

I like it the most as an adjective for bread, but my mind revels in sensory-inducing use of crusty even in gross situations.
