Sexist/stereotypical things you still find hot/romantic

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Admit it. There's some thing that you know are sexist, or at least somewhat stereotypical about genders and gender roles, but which you still find to be romantic. Or at least a turn-on.

For me, it's the bridal carry. A guy carrying an injured or unconscious or traumatized woman in his arms makes me melt.

I don't have any.

I like it when things are subverted. Like a girl carrying an unconscious or traumatized guy.

I like that a lot, and I also like the equal version: a girl carrying a girl or a guy carrying a guy. The guy-carrying-girl...eh, it does nothing for me.

This! I enjoy subverting cliches and fairy-tale-tropes. Usually with things going all fine and then in the middle something new happens. Sometimes I just think of fairy-tales and subvert them in my head for pure enjoyment with no intent to write it down, I love doing that so much.

I fall so hard for this too.

Especially if it's only in the little details.

I am a huge fan of subversion, too. Granted, I'm mostly into slash, so some things end up a bit subverted anyway, but certain slash tropes, like The Height Rule, I'm very happy to see subverted.

(Also, one of my favorite things about A:TLA was the fact that Sokka unabashedly loved SHOPPING and it wasn't treated as something abnormal ;U; WE CAN BE SHOPPING BROS, SOKKA~)

Oh man, when fem!Shep carries Kaidan? ...UNF.

I started a femslash fic, and realized that while I'm kinda skeeved out if a man is much more physically powerful than the woman in a relationship... I totally love the idea of an obviously stronger (older) woman and her more fragile (younger) partner.

Actually, lots of stuff works for me between two gals that would creep me out in a het relationship. Is that hypocritical?

I love subverted tropes. Especially in het pairings, the sterotypical things do nothing for me, but I also like subversion of tropes in slash and femslash pairings, i.e. the character perceived as weaker protecting the "stronger" character.

I like it when either half of a romantic pair carries their fallen/injured other. Doesn't matter what the combination is. Or even a couple that is just particularly ship teasing.

Um...none that I can think of? :/ This strikes me as odd, considering how many bodice-rippers I've read in my day, but I dunno, I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Kisses in the rain are so ridiculous. You're gonna get sick! ...yet they still make me melt. Especially if the romance wasn't the focus of the story. Romantic lines occasionally turn me into a puddle of goo too.

But let's not make that public information. *cough* I have a reputation to take care of.

Damage is done, I'm afraid. From now on, you're badass_tigger, and you'll never recover from that. Never.

Rain making you sick is a myth, anyway. As long as the couple dries off properly afterwards, it's not any worse than, say, being at the beach.

I'm a bit of a sucker for kisses in the rain, too. I was a little sad when my partner expressed a dislike for being sopping wet while clothed, but kisses in the shower suffice |D

Uh, the stereotypical feminine-type person nursing and taking care of the wounded masculine-type person in the middle of a warzone/conflict.

Appeals to me subconsciously, because it's a totally guilty pleasure because wow gender roles.

Came here to say this too, although my guilty pleasure also extends to women taking care of men when they're very sick and feverish from random illness in addition to just being wounded.

There are certain things I like in a fictional sense but not in a real life sense.

Like I am very attracted to sexist douchebags in fiction, the more they talk about women as objects the better.

But if I came across a guy like that IRL I'd run away as fast as possible.

For porn, I like it when the guy fucks the girl really roughly and calls her a whore, and she gets off on it.

I would never admit this un-anon. O_O

This isn't romantic or a turn on but I love maternalistic characters, which is kind of one of the stereotypical "roles" for women. I guess it helps that I also really love paternalistic characters too.

Re: Sexist/stereotypical things you still find hot/romantic

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not hot or romantic, but I absolutely LOVE it SO much when an older male character views and treats a younger female character like a daughter or granddaughter, being all stern and bossy and overprotective and paternal, with slightly-patronizing pet names and behaving like she's naive or helpless, that kind of thing.

Mind you, I prefer it when the relationship's emphasis is more on the age than the gender, and it's made even better when the younger woman lols at him for it and blows him off and proves to be independent and capable -- but I also love it when she isn't and really is a pretty docile helpless woman too (I just don't love it quite as much) so I have no excuse.

I love that one too, OP.

I also have an affinity for guys playing the "big brother" role around a close female friend/colleague, especially when it comes to her love life. I would call bullshit on it IRL, but in fiction it just makes me go d'awww.

Whenever the girl is being harassed/someone tries to hurt her and her love interest/boyfriend/husband swoops in like a veritable dark and angry knight in shining armor and just mops the floor with the offender (breaking bones, slamming into objects if the situation calls it etc etc).
Followed by some 'I will kill anyone who hurts you' type of line and maybe some intense sex and and...

...and I can't believe I just realized I'm really into that in fanfiction. Every story that had a scene like that made me tingle and squee to myself.

*headdesk*

P.S: TL;DR Damsel in distress scenarios in which the guys act dangerously protective of their gals does it for me almost every time. Darn all those bodice rippers I read while young. >>
