I think they should have transfigured a lump of coal into a diamond and sold it at Sotheby's. problem. solved.

I think that is exactly why you SHOULD bring it up to someone in charge. This is affecting everyone's grades, and stress, and that is not fair to any of you. If he is such an issue that even mentioning it to a teacher is going to make it worse, that right there should be reason enough to have him removed. That's just going to get worse no matter what you do, so at least you can have it on record and hopefully those in charge can do something about it.

What makes you think it's all the same person?

I've never commented against you before (I usually go out of my way avoid comment threads with you in them), but but the comment above is IMO a pretty accurate summary of your commenting patterns.

This is still highly abnormal.

People who aren't looking for a relationship at all still find others sexually desirable. People who specifically never want a relationship still find others sexually desirable.

This is the average. This is the mean. What you are describing is not. It might be how you are. But don't expect it of others or judge them for it too harshly.

Edit: There are other people who do not have an attraction to anybody. But one thing both groups would agree on... it's not as simple as THEY MADE A CHOICE NOT TO BE/To be attracted to others.

Attractiveness is relative. News at 11.

Go to the professor when nobody else is around, let them know that you want to remain anonymous. Telling an authority figure is dealing with your own problems.

ayrt

bed behaviour LOL sorry I'm sorry but I laughed. I am usually pretty conscious of what I do and how I act, so I would tend NOT to do things like touch a bit longer (or at all except in certain circumstances), longer eye contact, etc. precisely because those are the things that are often misinterpreted (and I certainly would not want to mislead the other party....though sometimes the other party has willfully chosen to mislead themselves despite my giving every sign to the contrary after the initial misunderstanding (which in my case, accidentally making eye contact, without even intending to, was what earned me a stalker for four years).

Thanks for not calling me a troll or a moron btw. As I said upthread, it's not a matter of turning off individual feelings, but more of a this is not where my life went, and so it's not an issue (except when others decide to make it an issue). So I don't have those feelings in the first place? Not because I'm strange or anything (though most of the thread seems to disagree) I just don't want a relationship, so I don't see people as anything other than unique individuals. I don't feel spontaneously attracted to random strangers. That seems strange (and like it would be inconvenient) to me.....

Oh man, I totally forgot about Kaidan. He's just such a non-entity if you don't romance him.

I honestly don't know how a Liara fan could complain--she's easily the most preferred and exposed love interest.

But, yeah, I was not happy with how Thane's romance turned out. I was not happy that Shepard and Thane basically treat each other as friends (not to mention you can actually tell where the friendship/love lines are being sewn together), how he has very little relevance to the plot, and I really wish they didn't have Kirrahe has a back-up for Thane. I think that really cheapened his death.

Not to mention the game treats it as if you had no love interest at the end of the game. Kaidan was hitting on the Shepard (since I romanced him in ME1), and there was no option to tell him "sorry, my boyfriend just died, lay off".

Not to mention the game treats it as cheating on him. Ugh.

he sounds like he's really insecure and craves attention.

maybe the next time he gets hostile with you, say something neutral like, "yeah, that's interesting" and then address the group as a whole instead of speaking to him directly. this might initially infuriate him more, but if you silently remind yourself that he is a sad, cowardly man-child and wait it out he should become too tired to bother with you and move on to the next person.

Try to get the rest of your group to all go to the professor together. That way it's not just about the conflict between you and him, it's about the fact that this guy is a problem and he needs to be dealt with.

Several cultures in which child marriage occurs customarily do not consummate the marriage until the girl hits puberty (which has steadily declined in recent years; there is also evidence that menarche begins later the more rural a girl's environment so a rural girl might be 14 or 15 before she has her first period).

I don't know what culture you come from, but twelve isn't all that young for Western cultures. The age of consent in Europe averages 14-15 with Spain at thirteen.

How did you not?

It's the same mindset, that's what world_eater is pointing out. Gay people are obviously choosing to be attracted to the wrong people! All they have to do is decide not to be turned on by the same sex, and voila, problem solved! Anybody who says otherwise is just lacking in willpower, blah blah blah.

It doesn't work like that.

This leak was from a source that was reliable about other things in the past. It came out before the 4th season was confirmed and while Alicorn Twilight was still being denied.

Sure, just live your life...? Sorry I'm not sure how I got this or why it makes me abnormal.

To sum up, she's a mostly nomadic woman who marries into another clan at her family's insistence in 19th Central Asia. He's a young but good-hearted boy who's eight years younger than her and they're mostly learning to know each other. She's a huntress and a markswoman, and the manga is full of little cultural tidbits about daily life, art and mores. Great read.

If you like it, try Victorian Romance Emma! Same author, a love story in Victorian England between a maid and a Lord...

I know a couple of people have already recced Ursula K LeGuin, but I'll just throw in another vote for her. My favourite book by her is Changing Planes, which I think is perhaps easier to read than something like The Dispossessed? (Although I liked that too.) YMMV...

I believe you genuinely feel this way...it's just probably a good idea to not assume the rest of the world does.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Again this only works if the ponies are analogues for human races, which they aren't. In a fantasy land where magic is capable of swapping species and races and their leaders are basically demi-gods, any correllation to real life falls apart. Your basically making the case that fantasy can only be analogous to humans and thus anything that can be extrapolated to a human counterpart must be and ultimately you've just destroyed many forms on fantasy and sci-fi species with that thinking.

Ultimately, it falls into the fact that you are massively over-thinking it to the point where suspension of disbelief becomes meaningless and the ponies are absolute analogues to humans, which they aren't by any stretch of the imagination.

Re: 2013 in Film

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I think it depends. Yes, they do tend to get trailers out ahead of finishing the movies (hence why some trailers include cut scenes), but if a film is intended to be 3D from the get-go, then they use cameras and techniques intended for that. So, there might be minor tweakin, but probably not major tweaking. However, the choppiness of trailers can often detract from the cinematography and 3D can be affected by the projector a theater uses.

Re: Hostile classmate- help?

[personal profile] khronos_keeper 2013-03-01 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
The only problem with that is I've seen others take this approach with him before, and he just gets even more hostile, and bears even worse of a grudge. One classmate who brushes off his attitude is at the moment being targeted as his "nemesis" (his words).

He's been behaving like this for the 4 months that I've known him. He's 43. This is an ingrained personality trait, and he is very persistent with his browbeating.

Re: Can someone please explain to me

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's less about subtlety and more about purpose. Everything in a narrative should serve to move the story forward (or further understanding). If there's a significant death, it should mean something and not exist solely to tug at the heartstrings.

Like I'm watching an anime right now where every other episode is full of heart-wrentching situations, but they serve a purpose, juxtaposing the protagonist's ideals against the harsh reality he lives in, or else explaining the motives of other characters. On the other hand, I was reading a webcomic that introduced an orphaned child character specifically to play up on the fact that she was an orphaned child and was also special (powers-wise; she could do things she shouldn't have been able to), and it felt too forced, like the author wanted me to care more about her and her well-being and story than the rest of the main cast. She didn't serve any other purpose than to bait my emotions, and I ended up annoyed. They're both manipulative, sure, but the first serves a purpose beyond getting me emotionally invested, whereas the second is there for just that only, and ends up feeling grossly superfluous when the bait isn't taken.
