Re: Would you date a man shorter then yourself

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care at all how short they are, but if they're so tall I have to crank my head back every time I want to look them in the face? They're too tall.

I'm 5'7", so about 6'2" is my cut-off height.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds great. Link please?

Re: I Started Knitting Today!

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kinda envious; I've never, ever been able to knit. :( My fingers just don't coordinate those precise movements and the whole thing falls apart.

Good for you, though. c: It's nice to keep your hands busy like that.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
...I hope you meant "they adapted it into a film" as a bit of a joke.

But anyway, OMG my best friend and I were watching "Hachi" at his place and I was crying so hard at the end of the film.

Don't you mean The Bourne Ultimatum?

well they sure aren't in control then. Unless everybody just decides to kill everybody else just because?

Spoilers

Don't forget Jon's most likely royal descent. And the distinct possibility that he's the reincarnation of a legendary hero, complete with a magic sword. He is basically every fantasy hero cliché ever. Not just some of them, all of them. I have some shred of hope that GRRM is setting him up to be a cliché only to somehow subvert it massively in the end, but I don't really believe that.

... Myrcella for Queen, Wyman Manderly eats everyone else.

Re: Periods

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...I'm a bit opposite. My periods for the last few years have been pretty irregular. My last period didn't hurt too much. Maybe a bit of cramping but it was really light and lasted only about 3 days. Before that, I remember I had a period where it was really heavy, like I had to use two pads in fear of leakage and when I used the bathroom I had to clean the toilet every time I used it because SO MUCH RED EVERYWHERE, and I felt bloated and cramped like crazy. It lasted for probably 8 or 9 days.

It's pretty surprising if you're the kind of person who only reads the kind of books where main characters never die. Or if they do it's at the very end, and melodramatically.

...Which is, sadly, most of them.

Re: Epilogues in fiction

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Seconding "I didn't think Harry Potter's epilogue was that bad". I kind of liked it. I also agree it would have been stronger had it just ended with Harry falling asleep in his bed after saving the world, but overall, the epilogue didn't bother me at all.

Re: Epilogues in fiction

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I like your epilogue and would love to read the rest of the story, especially if the last chapter before the epilogue really did end with "Damn, what now?"

Re: Would you date a man shorter then yourself

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm 5'1" so I'd feel really weird dating a man shorter than me so no. I also heard that most women don't go for shorter guys. I don't know if I would consider a man too tall to date. Most guys I've been attracted to are usually much taller than me. Like 5'10" and above, so I don't know. Maybe if he was like over 6'4"?

Re: Men’s Oppressive Beliefs Predict Their Breast Size Preferences in Women

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Victoria's Secret models are a better example of models selected to look attractive to men--although I've heard they are often selected for appealing personalities for women, too.

A bit OT but that makes a lot of sense. Before she annoyed me with her talk show and ANTM, I thought Tyra Banks was the perfect model for Victoria's Secret for the very reasons of her body type being the the type most men would find attractive and she also had a personality that was appealing to women. BTW I still like Tyra Banks, but to a degree.

Well, shit. I thought all I really had going was my huge boobs but that means I'll most likely end up with a sexist pig. =(

Re: I Started Knitting Today!

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Good for you! I've tried learning how to knit on and off for years, so I'm a bit jealous that you've got the general hang of it. Keep at it! From what my friends tell me, the more you do it the better you get. It'll be a bit of a mess at first but it gets easier with time.

I'll probably try knitting again sometime soon since I tried to learn how to before Youtube tutorials became a common thing. I also want to learn how to sew garments and crochet.

When I was a young girl I wanted to learn how to cross stitch but my mom never taught me. Again, a bit jealous. XD Maybe I'll learn that too sometime in the future.

I personally favor the trolls' more complex plot and struggles over that of the kids, but to each their own.

Although the cherub/s/im are really peaking my interest now, too.

Ahhh, ok. I've seen stuff like that floating around for a few years now (I even remember a "Dean is bi" essay as early as S4 although back then all the "evidence" or whatever was based on his and Sam's relationship) but I wasn't sure if it'd become canon or not since the last time I'd actually watched the show. Would you happen to have a link to that Tumblr essay? It's been awhile since I've ventured into the fandom so I haven't seen it.

I've never been a huge Dean/Cas fan I kind of hate to out myself as one of them but...I've always been more of a Dean/Sam girl myself. I swear I'm not one of the psychotic ones, though! :p but it still sounds like a really interesting direction for the show to go in. I need to get caught up soon!

NOT THE DRUG COCTAIL, GUYS!

Yay! Looks promising.

Re: How Would You Control Your (Hypothetical) Children's Internet Use?

[personal profile] elialshadowpine 2013-03-11 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
o.O

And how do you propose that?

Okay, so let's say you disallow computers, smartphones, tablets, e-readers, and anything that might access the internet from your house. There's still school, most of which have computer access. There's friends, who probably have computers and internet-accessing devices, probably with them at all times. There are libraries that have computer access. Unless you plan to be everywhere with your child at all times... good luck with that.

I read a Mystique/Irene fic once where Mystique grew a penis and impregnated Irene, just because she's a shapeshifter and she could. That said, I've not seen anything else. I would agree that since there's no penetration, it's probably not as big, sad as that might be. I mean, in anime, there's "futanari" where one woman grows a penis and that's how the women have sex. It's like this magical ceremony dedicated to peen. And I really don't know why we see A/B/O fic where a woman can (again) grow a penis and impregnate a man, but the same never happens for two women.

Hypothetical question for slash fans...

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I was having a weird fandom-related argument with a few friends so I thought I'd pose the question here.

Let's say a slash pairing becomes canon in one of your fandoms. The catch is that it's half of your OTP with a character you either are indifferent to or actively dislike. Are you happy that there's a canon slash pairing at all, or are you pissed that it's not your preferred pairing? Do you think having more canon same sex couples, no matter who they are, is good because it means more representation of gay/bi people in media, or that it doesn't matter because gay/bi characters in fiction don't really mean much in the overall scheme of real life gay rights anyway?

I've come across both opinions and I'm curious to see what people here think.

Re: Least favorite season of your favorite shows

[personal profile] ryttu3k 2013-03-11 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda did a thought experiment on what would happen if Asami accidentally hit Korra instead of Mako, and how they'd initially end up forming and strengthening their friendship without romantic entanglements getting in the way, with a healthy dose of awesome ladies being awesome at the forefront of the show.

And then I made myself sad because that show does not exist.

Re: Non-sexy fuck-or-die fic?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have to the link to the fic, but I know for a fact that it's been searched for on sgastoryfinders multiple times so if someone feels like digging through it for a while, then I'm sure they'll come across the fic eventually: http://sgastoryfinders.livejournal.com/
