Are we talking about Juliette? I don't participate in the fandom or in the shipping, but my dislike of her character is based on the fact that it has taken almost two seasons for her to have any kind of storyline of her own. Rosalee, on the other hand, has been a great character from her first episode, and I don't mind Adalind either, even if she is the stereotypical bad girl.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I was about to say the same thing. Juliette is, plain and simple, a snore as a character. IMO so was Nick in the first season. He is getting more interesting, Juliette not so much. :/

Rosalee is absolutely delightful and I adore her rather ridiculously. Adalind, OTOH, makes me grind my teeth to powder every time she's on screen. Which I suppose is a good thing in a villain but it's hard on my TMJ.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes to Juliette being boring until recently. And I love Rosalee so much.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
tbf that is the writers' faults. but i've seen people outright reject juliette for even less.

I don't think this is really a reason to outright dislike her though? Not being interested in her sure, but active dislike?

I don't watch Grimm but... Juliette? Rosalee? Adalind? ...wow these are some self-insert levels of names here. Is no one just named Sue or Jen?

This last storyline has been kinda meh for her but the most recent episodes with her where the snark has come out have made me like her more - "talking to my self...yup still doing it"

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Normally I'd agree with you op, but not for Grimm. I and all the fandom folks I interact with loove Rosalee and either like or love to hate Adalind. We liked Angelina even. The problem with Juliet is Juliet. She's honestly a flop of a character. I keep hoping that once she knows all what is going on she might improve but she wasn't saying much as a character prior to the amnesia thing either.
To me the problem in the Grimm fandom is with the guys. Too many people want Hank gone in exchange for more Munroe.

I love Juliette, she was so down to earth and reasonable in the first season. They've made her pretty pathetic this season, hopefully the next few eps redeem her character. I honestly don't think Adalind's actor is very good, although I have fun with the character. And RosaMarySueLee is starting to get on my nerves. Every scene where Monroe and Rosalee are together seems so fake "cutesy" to me. Theyv'e turned MOnroe into a poodle, taken his balls and painted his nails because he's the fandom favorite. What happened to the simmering, barely contained Blutbad who we saw when the show started? David G is getting better as an actor but Nick is a selfish jerk around Juliette. He doesn't really deserve her anymore, he needs to GROVEL when she finds out what's been happening to her that everyone else knows about and no one has had the decency to tell her in a fashion that she'd believe.

I've never liked Juliette just because of how boring she is.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm watching the most recent ep right now and honestly, Juliet is being a total dumbass. It's not all the women, OP, just her.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly she seems to be reacting quite reasonably as someone who woke up in a hospital with no memories of their live-in boyfriend, under the influence of a curse, and surrounded by people who know exactly what's going on and happening to them but outright refuse to tell them or straight up lie about the truth.

I have tried very hard to like Juliette this season. I did like her last season, but her plotline needs to stop as it isn't doing anyone any favors. I'm either bored with her scenes or vaguely annoyed. (And no I don't ship Nick/insert male cast member.)

I do love the rest of the female cast tho.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed in general, but in this particular case...I don't like Nick either. :)

Damn. Am I weird because I like all the characters on this show? It seems like everyone in this thread doesn't like someone for some reason.

I'm not a huge fan of Renard, I guess? I mean, he's a fine character, but easily the one I'm the least interested in. That's about as low as it gets for me.

ooh, i didn't know this show had a fandom, let alone a slash one (i can take a guess at the favored pairing, tho).

i watch it casually, but count me as another person who isn't really into juliette.

i feel super bad for wishing she'd been written off every time i catch an episode, but she always comes across as just so purposeless to me. to make matters worse, i think they missed the mark with the casting. by a mile.

IDGI. Particularly because I don't ship Nick with Monroe at all-- I assume that's the non-canon MxM ship you're referring to?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't HATE the characters that get in the way of my preferred ship, and I certainly don't bash them, but I think it's acceptable to not like the character much since they ARE in the way, don't you think? It's not much different from you disliking the girlfriend of someone you like on principle regardless if they're the sweetest person in the world, or whatever.

There are lots of characters who I simply cannot love because of this reason. I grew out of the bashing stage, but that's honestly about it. And gender doesn't really matter, I don't think. Well, in most cases. I mean, if you think about it women are the likeliest characters to get in the way of a preferred M/M ship considering how heteronormative medias are. I can't speak for anyone, but it really doesn't have much to do with gender. There are plenty of male characters (like Mickey from Doctor Who, and Raoul from Phantom of the Opera, and Kevin from Criminal Minds, and Ron from Harry Potter, etc) who I simply cannot love because they get in the way.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

Unless you're being a psycho about it, of course.

I've always thought that this fandom is not as bad as it could have been in this regard: Rosalee is usually well-liked, I've read a lot good about Angelina, and Adalind... well, she's Adalind, loved or hated, or both and the same time.
The problem with Juliette's character is not the main slash pairing... other shows have main slash pairings too, and people often act immaturely about their favourite ships, that happens everywhere. As I see it, there are a lot of people who like Juliette, and there are people who actively *try* to like her. Sometimes the latter group fails, and that's the problem, because that's the writers' fault. ("She's just written that way?") I think they don't write her consistently enough: we get random moments of awesome ("Stream hot water on the ogre!" (OK... this doesn't sound half as funny in English as it should)) and really genre blind decisions (her conversation with Adalind before the hiatus for example), the writers sometimes use her just right (the translations from Spanish), and sometimes they put her in situations where she can't make right decisions because she... doesn't have a clue what happens around her. I think they don't really allow her to be as awesome as she could be, and meanwhile she's surprisingly real, she's the most *real* character from a decidedly *not real* show, and sometimes she sticks out as a... sore thumb?
I like her character: she reminds me of one of my friends to a great extent, but I really-really-really don't like the way she's treated by the writers, and I think I'm not alone in this.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't ship anything in Grimm. I just think Juliette is really, really boring. Every time she gets a lot of screen time I dislike her a bit more, because she's there being boring while I could be watching wesen doing interesting wesen-things. Seeing someone's normal girlfriend being uninteresting isn't the reason I started watching this show.
