But didn't the op say it was after giving blood? That right there is the cause. Lots of people get vasovagal responses from having blood taken, and need to have it taken while lying down.

I'm not talking about this video. I'm talking about his tweet where he said that anyone who ran out and bought an "assault rifle" in the wake of Sandy Hook (which further shows that he has no idea what he's talking about) had neither a heart nor a soul worth defending.

Because it's not like there's a knee-jerk reaction every time something like that happens where lawmakers rush to ban semi-auto rifles or anything, and people want to get them before they can't, or anything. And it's not like anyone would have a legit reason for wanting an AR-15 for home defense or varmint hunting.

Yeah - I managed to find HFCS-free bread, but it still had added sugar in it. And yeah, companies like Monsanto scare the shit out of me. Good food, in America, is VERY damn good (San Francisco is basically bliss), but conversely, the bad is very, very bad...

If I do end up moving there, my food bills are going to be pretty damn high, since I'm going to try to aim for as much as possible being organic.

Her name is the result of the owner's young kid naming the cat and misspelling "tartar".

I did not say "second in the nation." I said simply "second," because it was in second place on that list.

They also aren't bastions of peace and prosperity where no crime happens ever, which is the characterization that a lot of gun advocates give to places where laws are loose.

The fact is that crime happens either way, and that neither eliminating guns nor arming everyone would change that on its own. Reasonable people can recognize that and disagree about where to strike the balance and about what can be done to address the underlying issues. But you are not a reasonable person, and you fail to recognize that you've been mocked for that, not for being a gun owner.

not to mention the fact that the antagonist (who is also the protagonist) built a white paradise that is completely relevant to the historical significance of columbia and its drastic downsides

this is seriously the one game i can think of where the protag being white is the only thing that makes sense story-wise.

The thing is, abuse fucks with your head. Abusers train their victims to believe that they're helpless and powerless and wouldn't survive without them. And in small-town Georgia, Carol might not have had access to the sort of support resources that many women turn to when they try to escape abusive relationships. If her family wasn't around anymore or accepted Ed's behavior as normal (as far too many people do), who could have helped her? Abusers also systematically isolate their victims from friends and family who might support them against the abuser, or from whom the victim might get some validation and self-worth. And without friends, family, or a shelter to help her, she might have been legitimately worried about how she would feed her child, especially if she'd been a stay-at-home mother with no work experience in more than a decade, if ever. Not to mention the fear that if she did manage to leave him somehow, he might track her down and harm her and her daughter.

Remember a few episodes back, when Carol told Andrea about how she should kill the Governor? It seemed pretty obvious to me, based on the passion with which she expressed the plan and the detail of it, that she'd been holding onto that same plan to deal with Ed for a long time, and only didn't because she would lose Sophia if she murdered her husband. That tells me that Carol saw no other option for escaping him than murder.

And that's how it is for a lot of real-life abuse victims -- their abusers go to a lot of trouble to keep them trapped and put up obstacles, emotional, financial, and physical, to prevent their escape. The fact that some women do eventually manage to get away means that they should be praised, not that the ones that don't should be condemned.

Dunno about Salt Lake but for the last few years Phoenix actually has unrestricted carry, which means anyone who can legally own a gun can also legally carry it concealed without a permit. Basically, just assume everyone there is armed and move on to the next place if you want to commit a crime.

(I feel a little bad about this, like I set the thing up so I should have promoted it some more and got the ball rolling. It was an esoteric thing to begin with, though, so I don't feel that guilty about tending to my life instead.)

Y'know, how 'bout if instead of saying "art used without permission" (yeah, we figured that--it's fandom secrets, fps, why would you ask somebody if you could use a specific image for something that's supposed to be a secret), how about if you just, I dunno, credit the artist or something.

Sorry, that's been bugging me for years.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I know I would. :/

And yes, I know it makes me a bad person, but honestly I'd do anything short of maybe murder to avoid death.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think it's pretty tasteless to react to tragedy by immediately running out and buying an assault rifle. I don't think he's wrong there, and I think the "knee-jerk reaction" is you taking anything that criticizes guns and blowing it completely out of proportion.

But, since you must have been one of those people who immediately ran out and bought an assault rifle, since otherwise I don't see why you'd think that you were being called "soulless," then I suppose I understand your rage. I also want to take that thing away from you before you snap and hurt someone.

I'm not the person you're replying to, and I don't follow the kinkmeme currently so I can't give you Shockwave recs, but here's a link to the kinkmeme itself:

Hope that helps!!!

Re: Fainting

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have been quite close to fainting twice, but didn't actually faint.

One I was at school, I was 13 and on my period and felt awful already. And suddenly I realized I was sweating through my clothes and getting tunnel vision. It was actually a rehearsal for a end of the year event, so I couldn't just leave. Once we finished I went to get a bottle of water and drank it almost completely in one gulp. Thankfully I didn't faint, because talk about embarrassing!

Second time was also on my period (Heavy periods + Thalassemia is not a good combo) and after being in bed with no food because I felt so bad, I somehow thought that having a bath was the best idea and would make me feel better. Well, hot water apparently dilates your vessels and lowers your BP :D I almost fainted when getting out of the tub.

As I said before, I'm anemic and after that time I learnt not to take baths if I feel so bad, and if I'm feeling a bit light headed to eat some salt before bathing, because I end up feeling bad (I should stop taking baths maybe, but I like them! xD)

Re: are you afraid of dying?

[personal profile] coffeeyoukai 2013-04-05 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much this. I guess I'm not exactly afraid, since it's not like there's a way to avoid it yet, but I do want to keep existing for as long as possible.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
You really need to learn to differentiate between crime and violent crime. Also, not all violent crime is committed using a gun. In Phoenix, the majority of violent crimes do not involve a firearm.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't have time to play, why do you have time to watch your husband play?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
The Utah legislature passed a law for unlimited concealed carry (as long as the gun was two actions away from firing), but the Governor vetoed it. However, it passed by a wide majority and will easily override that veto if they call back a special session to do so.

Hey, no worries, OP. It's never occurred to me to be The Thing I Do when life is too much, but there've been times whenever coming home and finding my roomies watching Avatar in the living room has made a terrible day wonderful. It's a great show.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Or shoot them with your own gun, obviously. As the poster above states, there are other factors involved and reasonable people don't consider either way a magic spell to stop crime.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
You just lost interest. It's probably not that you don't have the time to invest in these games, it's that you choose to use your free time in other ways. And that's okay.

Mm, true; fairy tales tend to take a "soft focus" approach to stuff like that, where "And the Evil Witch approached the Good King and Queen and bent to one knee, saying, 'I have wronged your daughter and wish to make recompense,' but the King and Queen were good and forgave the Witch, for they knew she could no more harm them than the child she had grown to love like a mother, and so they all lived happily ever after."

Which kind of fits, except for the part that someone below this brought up, where Gothel clearly values Rapunzel as an object, a thing no more animate and with no more independence of thought than the flower, rather than as a person, never mind as her child.

lol what? Handhelds are awesome. Hell, the 3DS has some of the best games coming out right now compared to consoles.
