Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. The manga is forever placed in my top three of favorite comics of all time. Volume seven shakes me to the core every single time I read it. All the characters are perfect, from the moral ambiguity of Nausicaa to the strange, strange redemption of the two princes. And the war ... I don't like war fiction at all normally, but it's so intricate and fascinating. And I suppose I should make this a secret, except I don't care: I roll my eyes at everyone who raves about the movie and don't care to read the manga.

(Also, I ship Kushana/Kurotowa so hard. They absolutely kick ass.)

You mean I'm NOT the only one who thought of L being part-Shinigami?! Wow...that actually shocks me.

You, sir or madam, have totally made my night.

3. Ah, B:TAS. Good times...hot chicks. *sighs*

15. The manga rocks so hard~ For a while I was borrowing the volumes. Haven't finished though. Got up to vol. 4. D:

28. I totally saw this one coming. Srsly. Eh, I look this way: A good 45% of the anime/gaming/RPG secrets here are from anime/games that I've a) never heard of or b) couldn't give a care about. And I like anime/manga. Quite enjoy it. (I mean, that's why we have a "Name that Fandom" comment post; anime is such a broad area of the interwebbernets that you don't hear about a lot of shows that have already gotten an audience for it FOR A YEAR.)

Now the wording(oh snap here we go), yeah, it could be better. However, I know I have said things that could have been better said but when I get caught up in the moment well...it just doesn't matter. I said it and can't really take it back other than apology. (Sometimes you don't want to apologize though; you meant what you said so why take it back?)

My problem is that I've gotten heckling from BOTH sides: those who obsess over anime and those who utterly despise it. That's why the last comment kinda dug in. Because I think anime is great, though not the greatest. Because anime isn't a huge ass blanket that every fan of it sleeps peacefully under. It was the "yes, we exist" part that got me the most. Of course there's a lot of non-anime/anti-fans out there. For every like, there's most likely dislike. Duh.

But why are people so sensitive about this? Who knows? Maybe a lot of people here have encountered the opposite of your case: people who think anime is the worst thing since root canals. Maybe that's why some were offended. *hunches shoulders*

All we can really do is spread the word if we want more diversity. I know I've kept telling non-animu folks about this comm, to the point of them wanting me to shut up about it.

...BAW, TEER DEER ALL OVER THE PLACE

OP 28

Ehh, I'm too lazy to reply to all your comments individually, so I'm doing it here.

Firstly, yes, I know that last comment was nasty, but whatever. I was pissed off at the time I wrote that secret. But, while that view may not be shared by most anime fans, it is a view I've come across and it stinks. It could've been worded better, I know that. I still don't regret saying it.

Secondly, I HAVE been submitting secrets. I try and submit two or three secrets for each subs post, if possible. But I do not have an endless supply of secrets, and a lot of my other secrets are NOT fandom related. So I apologise for not being able to flood submissions posts with my secrets.

Thirdly, I'm not going to make a separate community for non-anime secrets. That's taking it a little too far, and frankly, a little too elitist. I'm not that fucking annoyed by it. Just as with the drama surrounding a call for a separate comm for RP secrets, I don't see the point in separating things out into separate secret comms. I feel it defeats the purpose of the comm to split everything up like that. There's not many of us here as it is, splitting us up any further would be horrible.

Fourthly, I stand by everything in my secret, and I still believe I raise a valid point. Sure, I may not have needed that last comment, but it still stands. I would like to encourage the posting of more non-anime secrets! Just post them! It's not like they'll be posted with your name attached to them or anything. A little diversity's good for the soul, no?

Fifth, no I don't care that you think I'm being bitchy and need to go fuck myself. You getting all agro at that last sentence are proving to me why I left anime fandoms behind years ago. Yes, I did used to like anime, but overzealous fucknuts who think anime is absolutely perfect and anything Western is so subpar it's not worth even considering just ruined it for me with their attitudes. So yes, I do have a bit of a grudge, but considering how I could have worded that whole secret, I felt I was being rather polite and reasonable, even if my last sentence was a jibe at some fans in particular.

If you've never come across such an elitist attitude towards anime, and you don't hold that attitude either, good for you. I probably don't hate you.

Here endeth my comments.

but overzealous fucknuts who think anime is absolutely perfect and anything Western is so subpar it's not worth even considering just ruined it for me with their attitudes.

oh yes because Supernatural (Buffy, Due South, X Files, shall I keep going?) is the perfect example of calm and collected fandom and fans.

I probably don't hate you.

I know I'm relieved. Knowing there was someone out there in the fandom universe that might hate me if I act like a entitlement whoring fan because people don't do things my way was keeping me from sleeping at night.

I can rest much easier now. Thank you.

You do raise a valid point. Your delivery sucked ass with that last statement in your secret and killed whatever chances you had for most people to be sympathetic.

Congratulations. You've now made it harder for the non-anime fans to get any recognition around here.

[identity profile] dorknessrising.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, your point is not valid. Telling people what secrets they should post just to cater to your particular fandom preference is asshatty and jerkified, no matter how you slice it. People can and will post whatever secrets they want. Don't like it? Defriend the comm and take your whining elsewhere.

Thirdly, I'm not going to make a separate community for non-anime secrets. That's taking it a little too far, and frankly, a little too elitist.

...Too damn easy. Not worth my time.

I'm not that fucking annoyed by it.

I'd have an easier time believing that if you didn't bring in the herd of Teel Deers after submitting a secret saying the exact opposite.

17. I think most artists realize it (and a good amount capitalize on it). I mean, I was getting a relatively steady trickle of pageviews for a while, and immediately after I posted Harry Potter fanart it jumped up a couple thousand. :B People look for what they like!

18. I LOL'ed!

21. You know big-breasted girls who like seeing big-breasted anime girls? Despite the fact that anime boobs DO IMPOSSIBLE AND ACROBATIC THINGS and would probably SNAP THEIR OWNERS' TINY LITTLE TORSOS? If a character's boobs are doing the "follow the bouncing ball(s)" thing, it has to be an amazingly well-written character to make me stop thinking "no god what ow." DD ftl.

28. ONLY YOOUU (and you and you and you) can make a difference!

[identity profile] pts.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Way late, but for the record, yes. I do understand, and you are quite right. The manga is a goddamn masterpiece.

[identity profile] yuki-no-hime.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
13. That'd be a pity :/ Not everyone in the fandom is an asshole. I mean, yes, there are the elists, there is wank, oh, and let's not forget about the pairing/character bashers (or even the rabid fangirls!)... but the Naruto fandom has it's good sides - in fact, it's one of my favorite fandoms. Maybe it's the crack... maybe it's the great amount of fanfic/art. I don't know. All I know is that you shouldn't be afraid to get into it :)

28. How about making your own secrets instead of telling others what to do so you can feel better?

[identity profile] metaraymek.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
So.... anyone know what the deal is with #8?

I stopped watching Adult Swim years ago. >=

I'm afraid no one gives a flying fuck and I'm not being sarcastic. fandom works (fic and art) get more comments because the "audience" already has sympathy/empathy built up for the characters in the canon. for original stuff, they have no familiarity or appreciation for something they don't know about.

I hate it when it happens, too, but you can't make fans like things.

27. As a former player, YES. The Death Note cast is ridiculously good. :) I still follow the game for the DN characters. The only trouble is that the game really is difficult for non-technologically inclined/non-genius characters to play effectively in. :\

12- That's such a pretty screencap! o.o Must go watch.

14- Oh, me too. XD

21- Well, I appreciate seeing characters with smaller chests. I did so just today. ^^; Although it's not because I can relate.

3: Last time I checked, men were gay for liking cocks, not chutzpah.

And the Batman villainesses don't have a monopoly on the world's supply of female spines, thanks.

I was SO HAPPY when I saw that. D:

I can't make stories without having ONE guy with glasses being developed sometime within or after the creation of the story.

AND I FANGIRL SO HARD WHEN I SEE ONE IN MY FAVORITE ANIME.

9, I don't know what to say. I thought I was the only one. Sometimes the art's not even that good, or the anatomy is weird, but hentai has a soft, dreamlike feel to it. It's hard to describe, but I totally know what you mean.
