Didn't he apologize for it, though?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao murderers often apologize in court, does that mean they are absolved of any guilt?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
People aren't animals.

I'm less concerned about whether or not he apologized than whether or not he resolved the mental/emotional problems that led him to torture stray animals.

Cuz fuck that's creepy.

That doesn't make it okay. I mean, I don't know who this guy is or what the story is, but apologizing for a crime -- any crime! -- doesn't automatically make it alright. Especially if it's just words that aren't backed up by any redeeming actions (petting a white persian doesn't count).

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
whaaaat!? how have I not heard of this before!? i've never been a big fan of his music or anything but he seemed like a delightful person but if this is true I hate his fucking guts.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
He admitted to torturing a stray animal when he was younger.

I would assume it's because most people don't know this? I didn't know this. Is it true?

MORGAN: Childhood frustrations led to what they call hobbies. You tortured stray animals, beat up homeless people, mugged pedestrians. You set fire to things. You brawled with kids all the time.

GREEN: Yeah.

MORGAN: What was going on in this mad world that you were then occupying?

GREEN: Well, I will correct one of those statements. This torturing animals thing was just this one occasion, not to say that it is ever right, but it is not even a funny story.

Sounds like he's properly regretting it to me. It doesn't make it okay but at least he's seen the error of his ways. Can't the leopard change it's shorts?

Wow, that's really shitty.

From the transcript it sounds like he's genuinely ashamed of it... My first instinct is still to hate him, but maybe he turned out to be an ok guy.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's nice to know that he's changed. I think violent criminals can be rehabilitated, if we put enough resources into it, so knowing this actually gives me hope :)

Just... fuck you OP.

And I might also add, the fact that CeeLo was honest enough to admit that he did terrible things makes me like him even more than I already did.

(BTW I was buying his music before "Fuck You" and Gnarls Barkley and all that shit)

Well, let's be fair here: people in general are perfectly capable of change, but there's no evidence this dude (whoever he is) has actually changed. Aside from no longer admitting he tortures animals, what has he done that makes you go "okay, clearly you have learned your lesson and are now a decent person?"

I'm seriously curious here.

Yes! Your actions as a child define who you are as an adult and you should be punished for them for all eternity!

Why don't people understand this? Have they no empathy!?

I'm really torn about this, since it not really something I feel I can draw any definitive line for.

CeeLo seems to actually be a genuinely decent human being these days who has gone out of his way to at least acknowledge his wrongs and change himself. My opinion of him has changed now that I know this, and I'm not giving him any asspats, but I can't really bring myself to want to solely nail him down with this information.

I think part of the reason is that it happened when he was young, which doesn't make it any less reprehensible, but for some reason does make me view him more sympathetically. The way he hurt people and an animal should always haunt him, but I'm not willing to say it should drag down his entire life either.

As opposed to people like Chris Brown who have tried to act like they were the victim, and then literally flaunt what he'd done in the media's face without any significant consequence.

Nobody's mentioned Michael Vick yet?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised. Seems relevant.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Guy did awful things as a teenager/young adult, realized they were awful, stopped, feels bad about it, hasn't done it since then. That's... pretty much the best outcome for someone who did awful things as a teenager/young adult. I can see why knowing that about him might change your opinion of him, but...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-20 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Cee-lo's not really a upstanding guy nowadays either. Not the worst guy in the industry, but by no means a spotless character.

He was accused of sexual assaulting a woman and he made a tweet with homophobic undertones to someone who critiqued him on a performance.

On reading this secret, I've decided to do the same thing I do with Kanye West - love the music but dislike the singer.
