(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)But if you WANT to look a certain way, you should try to get there.
I am not thin, and I see a lot of people harping on about how its important not to be shamed into changing how you look, but its also important to note that sometimes this ties into health & your own self esteem and there is NOTHING wrong with also wanting to change how you look.

If that means getting thinner, getting larger, putting on makeup, getting plastic surgery, changing your hair, getting tattoos, getting piercings, wearing colored contacts, or anything else, it's your right to do it as long as you have the funds to support it.

Can I take this time to complain about fat acceptance people?
(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)And: Ugh. No, assholes, I'll never wear a bikini (never while I'm fat or thin) because I can never get rid of the damage I did to my body by becoming fat (stretch marks).

(on a side note, the one picture I have with a JPop singer I adore (Aso Natsuko) I actually look decent which made me so happy)

(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 12:48 am (UTC)(link)If you want to lose weight, and are doing so in a healthy manner, then there's nothing wrong with that.
no subject
(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 01:24 am (UTC)(link)However! I'm also going to add this: even if you lose as much weight as you want, don't put all your hopes on it changing how you feel about yourself. I've lost 95 pounds in the last 18 months (all me, no surgery or pills, thank you) so that I am down to 110, which is right in the middle of the healthy weight range for my height. But what no one knew to warn me about was how horribly hard it can be as you're going down, not from a work perspective, but from a "this isn't real" perspective. One week, your jeans are so huge they fall off you when you walk and you're feeling awesome about it, so you buy a smaller pair, which only has your body looking like it did twenty pounds ago while it tries to be in smaller, tighter pants. I spent an awful lot of time seeing myself at my top weight, even forty-fifty-sixty pounds down, because things still sat in the same places, just smaller. I still do. Logically, the numbers on the scale tell me I did it. I can see it in pictures. I can tell by the clothes I simply cannot wear. I can feel my body and know I did it. But to look in the mirror? Hell, no. I'm still way up there. So know that if you do lose the weight, it won't solve how you see yourself. Losing weight isn't the work you'll have to do there. Seeing yourself as who you are, that'll be the harder part.
Either way, good luck.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 05:05 am (UTC)(link)If you want to lose weight and keep it off, don't start with a crash diet or a miracle diet or a diet of cabbage soup and grapefruit. If you have access to a doctor, talk to them about setting realistic goals. Don't weigh yourself often. Exercise lots, whether that's taking the stairs or walking to work. You want to do resistance training--weights and stuff--and cardio training--things that get your heart rate up. You will gain muscle, which weighs more than fat, but that's a good thing. It takes up less space and burns more calories faster. Your basic weight distribution probably won't change lots--if you're pear-shaped when you're fat you probably won't be apple or hourglass shaped when you're skinny. Eat only slightly fewer calories than you burn per day, because if you suddenly cut your caloric intake by lots your body will think it's starving, because it is, and start frantically storing fat. Don't deny yourself all treats ever, because cravings will eat you alive. When you do have treats, enjoy them. Actually, try and enjoy everything you eat. If you see food as the enemy you're going to make problems for yourself. Eat lots of fruit and veggies and whole grains, but a healthy diet doesn't have to mean lentils and kale for every meal. Calories are calories whether they come from chocolate or carrots. Drink water or tea or herb tea without sugar. If you drink non-diet soda, stop and you'll have cut an enormous source of calories right there. Ditto sugar-syrup-and-cream laden coffee.
Good luck.

The sad truth is, though, that to stay slim you need to change your eating habits FOREVER. So be prepared to do that, otherwise you're on the slippery slope of bouncing back and forth.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 11:40 am (UTC)(link)It's not a bad thing to say how you honestly feel. It's not even a bad thing to want to lose weight - your body, your choice.
But, accepting your body won't stop you from losing weight (if that is your choice), all it will do is stop you from being miserable along the way. Remember, healthy weight loss is one pound per week (thereabouts); depending on your current weight, that's potentially a long time you won't be thin yet. Do you really want to spend all that time not enjoying life to the fullest?
That thin, "conventionally pretty" self you think you could love, you know who'll she be? YOU. With all your personal character traits, all your skills, all your experiences, just in a smaller (but otherwise still the same) body. So, if you could love yourself in that hypothetical thin future, you can love yourself NOW. Because you already are that same person.
