3. I like this series because the story is amazing, and it all fits together without any plotholes or really any questions left. It's fun to try to figure everything out before the end. Then again, I also like Elfen Lied (possibly moreso than Higurashi), which was pretty crazy itself, so I guess you'd be very disturbed by me. ♥

5. NiGHTS is one of my favourite games ever. it was one of the first games i ever played, and i remember just seeing it in the store and thinking about how beautiful it was, and how i needed to play it. to this day it's still one of my favourite games ever, and if the new one isn't done very well ... i don't know what i'll do. i don't think there's a proper word to explain the heartbreak i'd feel.

I like it for the story, the amazing characters, and the quiet lulz that the animation quality brings. I don't like it for the violence or for the crazies. And quite frankly, half the violence in Higurashi was kind of disturbing to me too (fingernail scene, anyone?) and I would NEVER even imagine doing that to a real person.

Then again, I also like School Days and Junji Ito manga, so don't listen to me. o/

3. Mmm, liking psychological thrillers might make you a psycho. It's honestly a great show/game. It keeps you on the edge and it forces you to pick up pieces of the puzzle and put it all together somehow. It makes for great discussion and thought, but it's not for everyone I guess.

4. Totally OT on the secret, but I know this artist! They're so amazing and super sweet. I love their art so much, they seriously draw some of the best Phoenix Wright fanart. ♥

20. Liking characters that would make you a better person is a good thing. While I tend to like the characters that I can relate to, I doubt that's ever a good thing. They're always bitchy, or have extreme jealousy issues, and more often then not will turn out to be aligned with or be the antagonist. And I can relate to some so well at times because I understand the driving motives and it can be all rather disheartening to realize that I'd be the one who fucked up people's lives if I had a chance.

23. Het isn't as bad as some yaoi. Really. Most het relationships in fandom are more equal. I like my yaoi pairings to be able to switch most of the time.

You're never too good at Japanese to appreciate a good translation. If you think you are, then the reality is that you are not good enough yet to properly appreciate a good translation. I had a similar phase. Then I learned more and realized how wrong I was.

The reality is that many translations are shit, many are flawed but good, and a few are simply brilliant. If you can't recognize that, you need to study more. The percentage of fans who can criticize translations with any kind of authority is very, very low compared to the number of fans who actually do.

I guess what I'm saying is that not only are you a hypocrite like you admit, your sense of superiority is misplaced as well.

I didn't say there weren't translations that were good. There are. I just can't equate them. There are some things that can't be translated. How do you translate a person's tendency to use "...ssu" instead of "desu" or a Kansai dialect or the subtle change between "ore" and "boku" when a character is letting his real self show? You can come up with rough equivalents, but they'll never be quite what the author was intending. And now I know too much to be able to enjoy translations when the original intention is manifest.

I am not superior to anyone. I just feel like an idiot for trying sooo hard to bring manga over and then being unable to enjoy it now that it's here.

And quite frankly if you're telling me this I'm assuming you consider yourself one of those fans who "can criticize translations with any kind of authority" and I have to wonder which one of us is playing superiority.
