As a Zutara fan, I was kind of dreading the appearance of the Maiko "kiss" scene from the trailer. It looked realistic enough, and the before-and-after screengrabs that we saw were convincing that Zuko really does seem interested in her, and potentially has some feelings for her---and that it's reciprocated by Mai.

However, when I actually did see the scene (in ep 302), I found myself laughing at it. It was accompanied by the cheesiest, most retarded, and most OOC dialogue I've ever heard. That scene, where Zuko and Mai kiss in front of the sunset, sounds like a bad fanfiction. Wtf, Mike & Bryan?? ;__;

YES! I have no prob with Maiko(although Zutara=much more awesome) but 302 VERY OOC.

10. INTERSTELLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! FUCK YEAH, I LOVE THAT MOVIE. ;____; it's got SUCH a good story for something that doesn't even have dialogue and gah, immense love.

13. I honestly think that depends on where you're applying. Some schools would take that kind of thing better than others. It's always a gamble writing about something truly unique, ESPECIALLY something like fandom, because you could very well hit on some bias or prejudice of an admissions official who will automatically make assumptions about you. =/ but sometimes it really, really pays off - a unique essay can be a saving grace of an application. Why not try writing out an essay based on fandom? Show it to your teachers and your college guidance counselor, if you have one. if they like it, give it a shot! and good luck~ ♥

19. You're retarded. You've never been inspired by anything, ever?

... I can't tell if you're attempting a parody, or you're referencing someone/something OTHER than Van Gogh and you just chose that picture for some other reason. That, or you are just plain Doin' It Wrong.

also, someone else said this sounds like a personal attack and I agree. =/

19. Who cares where you find inspiration from, as long as it helps you get through life? Icon related, most definately. :]

Not!fandom: How the heck was van Gogh a weeaboo?

[identity profile] terrie.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
not!fandom: i think the OP is referring to him being influenced by ukiyo-e. that's the only thing i can think of.

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
3) And I can't stand people who get all snooty about how much the main pairing sucks just because it's the main pairing. How do you know the only reason they ship it is because it's the main canon pairing? There are some main pairings (yes, het ones :O :O :O) I love because they're powerful and well-written, and others that bore me because they're bland and have no chemistry. Being OBSCURE and SLASHY doesn't make you better than people who sometimes enjoy what canon gives them, thx.

...also, J.D. and Elliott have canonically made a terrible (if entertaining) couple from season 1 through season 3, and the show would have to do a lot more than have the two of them turn to each other and go, "Maybe we're perfect for each other after all!" to convince me that four years later their particular form of chemistry has changed so much. Not saying it's not possible, just that it'd take some work.

8) ♥_♥

12) ...I was in New York last week, and there was a capsule machine in a comic store that...dispensed I Love Egg gashapon figures.

If I'd had the necessary four quarters on me at the time, I would have gotten one or more in a heartbeat. I kind of regret not demanding that someone make change for me so I could. :(

19) ...lulz.

Fandom is, at its heart, a bunch of stories. The human mind centers itself around stories--some fictional, some not. It really should not be a surprise that some people find their inspiration in fiction.

I still laugh at people who declare, "The Turks in FFVII changed my LIFE!" or something similar, because it does get ridiculous sometimes, but sneering at everyone who finds strength in stories is even dumber than that.
hughes: (the legend;)

3. I usually don't ship canon het pairings that hard, but sometimes they're done really well and I really do love them, so it seems kind of dumb to automatically look down on people who like them just because they're canon. Yeah, I understand the feeling of frustration at people without imagination, but unless they're rabid about it being the ONLY VIABLE OPTION or something, (which many non-canon shippers are like anyway), there's no reason to hate.

19. Wow, you're an asshole. D:

[identity profile] fan-of-miggie.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I agree with you completely. When I'm online I tend to be social and sarcastic. Reality's a different story...o_o. I guess I feel safer on the computer...I can think of what I want to type out without having to worry about any of those damn awkward pauses that occur for me in real life.

19. About the loyalty thing...everyone has a show or movie or book that they'll always love, no matter what. Their interests will change with time, of course, but every once in a while they'll most likely go back to that classic fandom that they really treasure.

[identity profile] enjolras.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe people don't want to change interests? Guess what: it's not a crime to love a show forever.

Seriously, get over yourself.

[identity profile] blackbubbletea.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
4. Uh, no, it's definitely a musical.

19. Possibly in the things one learns about themselves while RPing as said character? At least, that's the case for me.

33. Heh, yeah, I've felt that way too.

[identity profile] slatterly.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
4. AGREED. Moulin Rouge is nice, but if it's never been on stage? Not really a musical. Particularly when all (most of?) your music is just cracktastically ripped off from other people.

(I mean unless it's Mama Mia! or something. But even then the plot was obviously constructed around the songs, whereas Moulin Rouge was taking random stuff that happened to fit.)

17. HEY IT'S THE DUDES WHO DID THE PHOENIX WRIGHT PARODY :D I don't remember how that song goes but it's awesome.

4. I don't really agree, and I love Drowsy. It's a musical technically, but I do get mad when people say it is their favorite.

Um.. Yeah, no. It may seem like everyone's all "Oh KuroFai's all that's important" but in truth, I know so many people from this fandom who LOVE Syaoran, myself included, so I'm not really getting where you see all the lack of love...?

totally agree he's the awesomest character tho~

Re: 29 OP! ;)

(Anonymous) 2007-10-07 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure people like him, I agree. But think of it ficwise and fanart wise, hell even icons. There's hardly any. :\ Not like I don't like KuroFai either, but I'd like gen fic or fic where Syaoran's the main one for a change. (And fic where it's not sap over his love for Sakura.)

1. DITTO. I get scared shitless, and nobody understands why. You just explained it better than I ever could have.

5. I know who you're talking about, so all I have to say is this: Don't let anyone hold you back from doing what you want to do, especially when it has to do with icons of all things. So what? They don't own the characters. They aren't them. Go make some wonderful icons. ♥

22. Like someone else said: I miss the old days.

33. I think this is a natural response to seeing so many secrets about other people and not a single one about yourself. I'd say I feel the same way if I wasn't so dead-set on people telling me things to my face, which is unrealistic but one can dream.

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see how a Harry, Hermione and Malfoy can be considered by anyone as an improved trio, Ron is Harry's brother, he welcomed Harry into the magical world with open arms and gave him something Harry had never known before, a family.

Harry, Ron and Hermione love each other dearly and they're irreplaceable, that slimy, cowardly, useless git Malfoy isn't half the man Ron is.

*Raises a hand.* Seconded. I tend to keep to myself and avoid that fandom, but anyone that slips Draco in there like a good/easy replacement or better yet an improvement - makes my skin crawl.

No, fandom. That's just wrong.
