I had to post, delete and revise this to be a little more polite because this comment honestly pissed me off *so* bad. I'm not trying to flame, I'm just trying to express why this really offended me.

One: Tsubasa has it's faults, no question. The ANIME is terrible and childish and weak and all those things. The MANGA is not. It has its problems too, its areas where it's clumsily-told, but it (especially the later half) is not childish, and there *is* character development. It's not the best series ever made but it's not terrible.

However, this part of your "secret" is not what pisses me off. It's THIS:

i also feel kurofai is pathetic... crazy yaoi fangirls...

Ok, one, why the insults? Why do you feel the need to insult everyone who likes this pairing and call them crazy and pathetic? You don't even like the show. You don't have any idea about this pairing in the manga, where it is very developed and, SURPRISE, pretty much 80% of the fandom considers it canon at this point. That's right, as in, manga-wise, it is pretty much canon right now. LOTS of things happen between them that don't happen in the anime.

Really, though, what insults me as a Kurofai fan? Not that you're calling me pathetic without actually doing any research about the pairing? It's the "crazy yaoi fangirls."

Hi, my name's Lindsay.

I like KuroFai. I consider it canon in the manga.

I am NOT A YAOI FAN.

Furthermore, gay pairings are not all in yaoi fans' heads, if that's what you mean by calling us crazy. Clamp does lots of non-straight pairings so it's not out of left-field to think KuroFai could be one too. Seriously, I find it incredibly rude of you to just go and call all of of pathetic and crazy (and to assume we're all delusional yaoi fans!) when you've apparently only seen the anime.

And even if it WAS fan-made, why is it pathetic to simply like a pairing? Sorry, but I find this secret incredibly judgemental. Get over yourself.

But I'll help you, as you asked:

Don't like it, don't watch it. I doubt your friends will disown you because you don't like an anime show. Grow a backbone and just don't bother with it if you find it so pathetic and beneath you.

I'm really sorry for ranting a little but this comment just really touched a nerve. Not all gay pairings are invented by "pathetic, crazy yaoi fans."

4.God, musical theatre snobs are such a pain in the ass! The songs are not original, but they do move the plot forward, it's a musical.
Also, Moulin Rouge >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Drowsy Chaperone, that shit is boring as fuck

10. WORD!

29, 30

[identity profile] buddha-loves-me.livejournal.com 2007-10-07 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I know both have been commented on ad nauseam, but bear with me.

29. I think (and the multiple comments on it would further my belief) that Syaoran is actually quite popular in fandom. I mean, obviously he won't be frequenting the Kuro/Fay community.

Plus, I think it's also important to take into account that Sakura and Syaoran have already had their series. And we all know how great novel things are, yeah?

But Syaoran is awesome. He bored me a bit at first, but he's really grown on me. He really is a strong character who deserves a happy ending.

30. Help you? Uh, don't watch the anime.

The anime =/= manga.

I can understand your distaste for Tsubasa. Hell, we can all have our own opinons and all that. There are shows my friends like that I just don't like at all. And I tell them this. And, if they're real friends, they won't give a flying shit about what anime/manga I happen to like.

But no need for the insults, you know? Not everybody who dares to like Tsubasa is an idiot. And not everybody who dares to like Kuro/Fay is a crazy yaoi fangirl. Stereotyping, it's the bane of many sane fan's exsistences.

3. yeah, i hear ya, i do. i'm used to shipping the fucked up, unpopular, creepy ships. then i found myself with peter/claire on heroes, which is quite a popular ship in the fandom and its just...weird to finally be in the majority. for once.

9. i dont hate him so much as i find him utterly contrived. thats not new for SM, but its still annoying.

13. haw. i wouldnt ever write about fandom for my app either. for fucks sake.

33. not especially. if someone made a secret about me, it would probably be about how fucked-up the shit i write is. of course they'd be right, but i digress...

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
According to musical theatre snobs, "true" musicals are those performed for the stage.

[identity profile] regendy.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
tl;dr personal testimony time: I'm at a Seven Sisters school--not as scarily intense admissions-wise as the Ivy League, but still up there--and both my roommate and I wrote about fandom not just on one application, but for the Common App essay. We both picked relatively mainstream fandoms, though(Disney for her, hockey for me). And it definitely depends on the school. I lucked out and actually got an email from my district's rep saying how much she liked my essay, but I highly doubt I'd have gotten the same reaction from somewhere else.

So basically, writing about fandom can be done if you go about it the right way, because if nothing else, it's not something that the admissions people have already read about a kajillion times. Just trust your instincts and others' advice. And good luck! ^_^

4. I'm not saying it's my favourite, but why wouldn't you count it as a musical? Just because the music's not written for it? That's not really fair.

9. I must say I agree. I liked him at first, in the beginning of the first book, but he got irritating very quickly, to me. Then again, it's not very different from how I feel about almost all the characters in that series. :/ I only really like Alice, Jasper and Edward. Everyone else ended up really pissing me off by the end of Eclipse.

19. Different strokes for different folks, dear. Maybe a fictional character has never touched you all that deeply, but it's not uncommon to feel a connection with a personality portrayed in books, tv shows or movies. Sometimes it's because a character reminds them of themselves or someone important to them, and it helps them with a hard point in their life or something to that effect. It's not fair to laugh at someone just because they're different than you.

[identity profile] teostra.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
19. Having your life changed by a character isn't so strange. My life was changed by reading "Catcher in the Rye," after all. Sometimes, the strangest thing can have meaning in one's life. Stories are often meant to teach lessons. I feel proud for people who are able to find the motivation to change themselves.

29. It's because people want more original stuff, which is where Fai and Kurogane come in. For me, I could care less about the Syaoran and Sakura plot... If I wanted to read about how interesting they are, I'd go back and read CCS again. The fact that Fai and Kurogane are the only two new characters in the main cast makes them more interesting.

30. To elaborate on 29, I think that if the story were focused on Fai/Kurogane, it might be more appealing. I'm tired of CLAMP's recycled garbage... I guess this is why xxxHOLIC is more fun to read than Tsubasa will ever be. :\ (imo)

4. As a musical theatre snob, I would like to say that you give musical theatre snobs a bad name.

No, it's not a stage musical. Yes, I'm annoyed when people cite it as their favorite musical (although not nearly as annoyed as I am when people cite High School Musical as their favorite musical...) On the other hand, I would never claim that it's not a musical at all. Movie musicals have their pluses as well, and I could cite a dozen of them that I love despite their not being stage musicals.

Although, um. My favorite musical is Chess, which probably means I should never criticize anyone else's taste in favorite-musicals ever.

Re: 4

[identity profile] cephiedvariable.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
WHUT.

CHESS ROCKS. D: D: D:

Ugh, the entire "musical snob scene" kind of gets on my nerves because it seems to me that musicals go in and out of style fairly quickly, and if you're caught STILL liking last year's favorite, say goodbye to your credibility! When I first got into musicals, to be respected, you were supposed to dig RENT. And then RENT got popular, so everyone espoused the virtues of Into the Woods. *shrug* Oh, and never, ever get caught praising gateway musicals like Les Miserables or Phantom of the Opera. The moment you're introduced to Sondheim, those are to immediately dismissed as asinine! :P

Uh, my point was: Chess is love. Hi.

although not nearly as annoyed as I am when people cite High School Musical as their favorite musical...
......... I think my head might explode if I ever heard those words come out of someone's mouth. I'd like to snobbishly venture that HSM isn't a musical just because it's so...

... so...

I MEAN, MAYBE IF IT WERE A SELF AWARE PARODY OF HIGH SCHOOL MOVIE TROPES, BUT NO. I've never seen anything so oblivious to it's cliche narrative. T___T

3. Jeezus. You're really proving how the internet is serious business, huh?

30. I never did like the series all that much, both the anime and manga; I wouldn't call the plot childish, but it isn't something I'd necesarily call "mature". And no, blood and violence alone does not make it mature, the execution does, which unfortunately, Tsubasa fails to deliver IMO.

Lastly, dear, tone down the insults. It makes you look like the pathetic one.

22. orz I've only been in the game for, what, about half a year, now? And, while I can't say a lot about the 'old' Poly, I do have to say a really big word.

I've completely fallen in love with Poly and the players I've gotten to play with so far are some of the nicest, most accepting and understanding players I've had the pleasure of dealing with. (orz Although I admit, it does go really fast. I have to outline what my 'main' character is doing when sometimes just to keep track of him)

(Anonymous) 2007-10-08 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's hyperbole on my part to say that the game saved my life, but I really think that I'm a better person for having been a part of it. I've been feeling more and more like all the plot is sweeping past me lately, though. Everything is moving in a direction I'm not sure I'm a part of.
