I never understood people sympathizing with Meg. Or people who call others "misogynist" for not doing so. She killed Ellen and Jo. Tried to kill the boys over and over. And somehow I am supposed to like her?????

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
afaik some sjws will call you misogynist for disliking any character that happens to be female for any reason.

luckily most of fandom is sane but the crazy is always the loudest...

Ain't that the truth! The SPN PTB have a habit of introducing annoying/boring/bitchy/bratty female characters then, when the audience rejects these 'wonders', start whining that the audience is Jus Jellus, and unfortunately, a lot of the fans follow suit.

Not OP

[personal profile] melissatreglia 2013-09-14 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Season 7/8 Meg. She's "a little good, which sucks" (according to her). I like the idea that demons can actually change, and are capable of some good every once in awhile.

Maybe it's because she's taken a shine to Cas that she started trying out the whole being good thing.

Early Meg I want to DIAF, though.

Re: Not OP

I like the idea that demons can change too, but they've certainly pulled a bait-and-switch on us enough times on that front that I simply don't believe it anymore. They should have actually followed through with the demons can be good plotline with Ruby, or Crowley, or someone who didn't start out their run on the show by offing main characters. Meg has been evil for at least five seasons--she doesn't need redeemed.

Exactly. She's a demon. You can like her because she's an awesome villain. But sympathy? No. God knows as a demon how many lives she destroyed given that she's a few hundred years old.

Exactly! You can appreciate awesome villains because you hate them, and love to hate them. But the bad guys are generally not people you should sympathize with.

Ugh. I hate Meg. I hate Megstiel. Also, I hate Meg. Did I mention I hate Meg? I'll probably hate her more once I get done with season 8. I heard she dies. I'm looking forward to it.

I might like her better if I liked the actors who played her. This last actor is just so... flat. It's painful to watch.

(I sobbed for like 15 minutes when Ellen and Jo died. That was the fucking saddest shit.)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like the idea of Megstiel because for the majority of the time she and Castiel were near each other, Castiel was not exactly completely sane. He was almost child-like in many aspects. The other times she was torturing him (when Lucifer caught him in fire) or surrounded by other people (the Cas kiss and such). So I can't really picture their relationship beyond her taking incredible advantage of him.

I can not ship Megstiel no matter how much I'd like to ship Cas with someone other than Dean just to be contrary.

I don't like the idea of Megstiel because for the majority of the time she and Castiel were near each other, Castiel was not exactly completely sane.

Ugh, yeah. It's creepy. He WAS like a child and obviously suffering from something like PTSD. And, in most their interactions, she's completely condescending and terrible.

I cried and blew up at that--I'm talking Nagasaki-level bomb explosion. Ellen and Jo were my favourite female characters in SPN (I loved the whole mother/daughter hunting duo thing). Broke my heart when they got killed off.

I heard she dies. I'm looking forward to it.

Yup. She dies. If you like spoilers, I'll tell you how.

Nah, don't worry about telling me. I'm on episode 13 and I'll be done with season 8 this week. Her death is something I'm anticipating. >:D

spoilers for season 8 inside

[personal profile] sootyowl 2013-09-14 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm on the fence with Meg. On one hand, I'm side-eyeing the writers for making a badass demon fall for Castiel, because, well, can't a woman not be in love with the main three? It always ends badly for them. On the other hand, I did like her in previous seasons, when she was stirring up shit for the Winchesters.

But then she did kill Ellen and Jo, who I love, so I don't know how Sam and Dean would ever forgive her if Megstiel happened/she became part of the group.

That said, she is dead, so maybe she'll stay dead and all speculation is for naught.

It really is :/ I'm sure she'll appear somehow.

Season 9 Spoilers:

Another demon is coming back in their original form after dying in s9, so Meg worming through as well wouldn't surprise me.

Secret 8 - Supernatural

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-14 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Meg and Castiel from the TV show "Supernatural"? There is a woman with light skin and long blonde hair crushing a plastic bottle while she smiles smugly. She is sitting at a couch next to a window, while a man with light skin and short dark hair sits opposite her, with his back to the camera.]

I am pretty conflicted about Meg. On the one hand, I cried so hard when Ellen and Jo died and it was her fault but at the same time I feel like she is unjustly treated by the other characters, especially Season 8. I know it doesn't make sense.

Bonus secret: Megstiel is the first heterosexual ship I've ever gotten into.

I fucking love Meg and Megstiel. It's all in the "find a cause and serve it". Tell me she didn't care about Cas when she got herself a job at a hospital to keep an eye on him, even when he was in a coma and couldn't save her in case Crowley came for her.

And I don't feel like she's at fault for the Harvelle's dying?Like yeah, she's a demon and she had her hellhounds with her,but they only attacked then they got shot (I can remember who was the shooter tho).(And i don't ever feel comfortable saying this 'cause people will say I'm nitpicking/pretending Meg never did something wrong).

Yeah, she did plenty of bad,but it was her job and she was loyal to it.And even in season 8 when she helped the Winchesters big time, they bailed on her and let her die.And she died fighting.

I love Crowley, but I feel angry that the writers decided for him to kill her like that. After she's been tortured, raped, etc and she dies by his hand?Nope.

Excellent comment is excellent.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The Harvelles died because Jo was mauled by one of Meg's Hellhound, and Ellen blew up a store to stop Meg's Hellhounds. How the hell is that not Meg's fault?

Hm, is that her most recent body? Not feeling it. I'll always prefer Meg 1.0 to everyone who came after. Anyway, I loved her as a villain, and I wish she'd stayed a villain instead of getting all chummy with the boys, but I can see sympathizing with her. It's demented how the certain kinds of writing can have you feeling bad for people you intellectually know deserve everything that happens to them and more.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate Meg. Fair warning.

I'm doing a rewatch of Season 1 right now and I'm at the episode where Meg 1.0 is going around killing all the Winchester's allies. It's been a long time but, in early fandom, characters like Pastor Jim and Caleb featured pretty heavily in fan fic, particularly pre-series. They were some of the few characters I was able to latch onto outside the Winchesters, even though they were only introduced to die. Add to that her part in Jo's and Ellen's deaths, and I have no sympathy for Meg whatsoever. I hated when the Winchesters started working with her, I hate her weird relationship with Castiel, and I'm glad they killed her. I don't feel bad about that at all. Sorry, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
The thing that's interesting to me is that I feel like the Meg we see in S8 is a completely different character than in S1. And it's not just character growth, because she's just not in enough episodes for that to be the case.

In S1, she is a recurring villain, and is wholeheartedly bad. Then we don't see Meg the demon again until S5- her vessel appears briefly as a ghost in S4, but that's not really her. Meg the demon comes back in two episodes of S5 and seems like a return of the same recurring villain from S1.

But then she shows up in S6. And from then on, she's strangely on the boys' side - something about the enemy of my enemy being my friend thing. She never really seems "good" to me. It seems like her goals end up lining up with Sam and Dean's sometimes, mostly because they hate Crowley.

But the villain who showed up, possessed Sam, viciously killed Sam and Dean's then-extended hunter family? That's not the same girl in S8. Some of that is character development, but some of it seems like a completely different character.

nah, i agree with you. i mean, the way she died, just stabbed and left on the ground was kind of cold, even for her being a demon and most likely to never be truly trusted. nevermind she was the only character on the series to have survived 8 seasons, and to be a woman as well as live. or.... lady demon. eh.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-17 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Meg was working towards redemption, albeit kicking and screaming, but working towards redemption. She always said to find a cause and serve it and at the end, Cas was her cause. If that meant turning a little bit good, then so be it.
