But Danny isn't the only gay; one of the twins is gay too.

Plus Stiles is pretty much confirmed bi.

At least he kinda got more of a storyline in s3a? I would love if Danny had more storyline in 3b. It would be great if him and Ethan went off on an adventure or were included into Scott's pack. Or if Stiles hooked up with Danny.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he was a lot more active in 3a (even if nothing came of his mistletoe vomit) so I'm hopeful he'll play a bigger part in 3b.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The creator's sexuality doesn't guarantee quality representation. Look at Ryan Murphy.

Secret 3 - Teen Wolf

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-19 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the writer and producer Jeff Davis, the developer of the TV show "Teen Wolf". He is a man with light skin, short brown hair and gray eyes. He is speaking into a microphone.]

I'm legitimately pissed that he made Danny nothing more than a token gay character. I expected so much more from someone who is gay themselves.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Nobody's going to play up the gay on tv. That's still the way it is. And gay behind-the-camera people would still rather get paid than make waves.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-09-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Um...? I thought there were at least two gay characters and Stiles might be bi?

Shows what I know for not keeping up with Teen Wolf... I should get on that.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But Keahu is painfully bad. I feel like Jeff tried, and Keahu let him (and all of us) down. Every line he delivers is wooden and flat. Even Dylan can't prop up his lack of talent. I know the rest of the cast aren't about to win any Academy Awards, but even Posey and Hoechlin raised their game in 3a. Canon!Danny =/= Fanon!Danny

Also, given the embarrassing SDCC'13 spectacle, Jeff will probably give him the axe in 3b.

The embarrassing SDCC'13 spectacle? I think you were the only one embarrassed. I'm not sure why...

Also, Keahu is bad? Do you know why that probably is? Because this is literally the first thing he's ever done aside from commercials. He needs practice. And how did he ''let all of us down?'' By...not having a storyline?

You sound like a Jeff Davis apologist, tbh.

Welcome to Glee fandom.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a character first, gay second y'know. Which is a nice fresh of breath air. He gets about the same amount of kissy times with gay!twin as the others do with whoever they're dating at the time

uh just realised most are not dating right now. Thank god, season 2 was incredibly frustrating over that
elaminator: (Teen Wolf: Stilinski's being angsty)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-09-19 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
To me it seems like he's been getting more scenes as the series goes on, and now that he's dating one of the twins he'll probably play a bit of a bigger role. I'm waiting for him to find out about the supernatural shit going on in Beacon Hills (if he hasn't already; it SEEMS he hasn't, but I feel like he could've put it together already), so hopefully that doesn't take much longer; that way he might interact with the group more.

Anyway, more Danny would be great, but just because Jeff is gay doesn't automatically mean the show will have better LGBT representation or more LGBT representation. That being said, I think Teen Wolf does better in that area than some other shows. (And I still think/hope Stiles is bi.)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-20 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe Jeff (and the rest of the writers) should stop adding 10 new characters per season/half season and focus on the ones already existing. Maybe Danny would get a bit more fleshed out then.

(Also, if they could stop killing the interesting/promising ones, that'd be great)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-20 12:10 am (UTC)(link)

Is the criteria for being a "token gay character" as simple as not being an integral part of the plot? I think there's more to Danny's character than being gay- not to mention he's not the only queer char- but I can understand the frustration that all the main players are straight (as far as we know, and I haven't seen the last 3 eps ).
Of course the plot is a fucking disaster so I don't know why anyone expects anything halfway competent out of this show...

I'm gonna agree with a couple other posters: 1) Danny's sexuality isn't his defining characteristic. He'd be a boring character if it were and 2)Danny has been getting more screentime as the seasons have gone on. He's in a relationship now with an Alpha, so I'm hoping he finally finds out about the supernatural and starts helping.

Jeff gave us a nice shirtless makeout scene between Danny and Ethan and we saw the lesbian couple together. If nothing else, he made Beacon Hills a magical place where homophobia doesn't exist. I think he's getting more comfortable with showing that Beacon Hills has different sexualities and will continue to show more of this as the show goes on.

On a personal note, Jeff has said that Stiles is bi but we haven't gotten canon confirmation of this. I'm really hoping that changes.

What is the whole "stiles is bi" thing about I keep hearing? I mean I think it would be great and it would hilarious if he somehow ends up with someone that's not Derek..I can already see the wank..Delicious.

Didn't know Jeff was gay, hmm. the more you know.jpeg

[personal profile] glo_unit 2013-09-20 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't quite call Danny a token gay character, but considering the fairly big deal that was made when Keahu was cast in the show, and also made when it was revealed that Danny would be in a relationship with one of the twins, there has been very little payoff, and I don't see why fans of Danny and Keahu shouldn't be annoyed by now. Also Keahu may not be a great actor but he is no worse than Hoechlin, who will always be a bigger part of the show than Danny, so the Keahu is a terrible actor excuse is a non-starter for me.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-20 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he doesn't fit in with my read of a token character - he isn't the only gay character, he wasn't only in the plot as a gay character (yes, he was important as to the plot as Ethan's reason for not being a complete bad guy, but he was also important to the plot as someone who got poisoned because of his school project), and he's had a fair amount of interaction with the main characters (although) he could have a lot more).

As for representation on the show, there's been a not insignificant amount. There have been several nods to bisexuality even if no one has come out, so to speak, and said it - the Stiles ones (his Danny interactions, the make out suggestion with Scott, plus he seemed sort of offended when his dad said he wasn't gay), and the whole thing at the rave with Jackson, Erica, and Isaac. Also, there was the gay bar and the drag queens that Stiles invited to Lydia's party. There was the scene in the tent with the lesbian couple and there was Ethan and Danny at the motel.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-20 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I really enjoy this show and I'm attached to the characters, but I think the writing is lazy as all hell.

It has its moments, definitely, but there's no real character development... ever.

I know Jeff has said something about not wanting it to become an "after-school special", but if that's the case, maybe he should stop dropping personal tragedy on every damn character for the shock factor and then not bothering to resolve anything.

I don't want to be invested in characters when the creators either hit the magical reset button and forget what happened to them or kill them off so they don't have to bother.
