It's a tumblr roleplay thing.

But this isn't what you said. You said "not all writers produce novels--nonfiction, short stories, plays, and journalism are all real writing." Now, when I point out that no one in this thread said they're not, you change your tune--now it's "not all writers produce stories" you claim you said.

I don't see anything in "stories are always popping in their heads" that privileges novelists over writers of short fiction or plays--or nonfiction and news either. Because it's the gift of writers to recognize stories where other people hear "blahblahblah who cares?" Hell, even a lot of technical writing involves casting whatever has to be conveyed in the form of a narrative, because that's a primary way we have of making sense of our world.

Wow that sucks. I'm sorry.*offers hugs*

Exactly. Retelling a classic hero's quest story is one thing, sure you can take your own spin on a storyline. But when your story involves using the same kind of language as other works, exact same words without credit or crediting the wrong sources, it becomes more sketchy than I am comfortable with.

And when I used you in the paragraph above, I mean you as a general you.

Just highschool/college AUs.
In fact basically the only spn fic I've written is a hs!au

Every so often a totally outrageous AU will grab me, but generally I agree with you. I don't want to know what Spock would be like as a barista or how Loki would act if he were a college professor with no powers. I am curious how SG-1 be different if Shau're hadn't died.

How can anyone write serious fic about that show at all, though?

I've never written one, but most I see that are updated regularly are updated once a week to once a month.

That's just their way of saying "I love this and I can't wait for more because it's so awesome!" I think most people aren't really expecting you to churn it out asap.

What if you notated on the next chapter that you plan to update weekly or whatever, and then if you post more it'll be like extra?

I read the transcripts (I can't stand just listening to stuff, I read NPR too) and it's great. If OP needs, there's a link with all the current transcripts.

There's all kinds of books sold at my grocery store that aren't very good. I'd worry when they're sold at chains that go by a strict protocol, if, indeed, any exist.

I see a person on campus and think, "is that a boy or girl? They're really cute."

I just see so many cute people and I want hugs.

Hypothetical.

Re: NS!2

(Anonymous) 2013-10-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Frankly, bitches works on both the level that they're using it empoweringly by identifying as a larger group, and also in the sense that it's all a bit silly and they're worshipping the sexiness of this guy, and would be happy to call themselves his 'bitch' in that sense.

I think bitch, when used purely as an insult, is a very nasty sexist term. But it is also used in a lot of other contexts and I think it has been reclaimed in a lot of ways - for instance, I would be happy to call myself a 'bitch' to mean that I was a strong woman who doesn't take shit. And my choice to call myself that in a positive sense partially negates anyone who calls be a 'bitch' in a negative sense for those same reasons.

Also, Cumberbuddies sounds like a term a paedophile would call a group of his victims. No one should call themselves a Cumberbody. Ever.

I write fic...
I have done writing workshops before as well with some original stuff.

I write music? I haven't done it in years for personal reasons but I've won a few local awards and my work had been performed on stage by internationally renowned classical musicians.

She's a plagiarizing bully who tried to get a critic kicked out of school, whose books are just her shitty Harry Potter fic with different names, and despite her Anti-Bully Awareness, she sicks her fans on anyone who doesn't think the sun shines out of her ass.

I'm in the process of outlining a Twilight AU where Bella comes to Forks because she was turned into a vampire and it's very difficult to be a Twilight-style vampire in Phoenix.
thene: Fang, with her back turned. Fate is not kind to those who leap. (oerba yun fang)

Those weren't my words - I was quoting the first line of this subthread and explaining why I feel that line clearly refers to novels and novelists. Plays, poetry and academic writing are not generally referred to as 'stories'. The 'constantly inspired storyteller who never stops' stereotype is most often associated with novelists and obviously fails to reflect the full universe of people who write things that other people read.

Personally I think narrative is overrated and what matters is a) craft and b) do you have anything worth saying? and those metrics rather than 'stories' motivate my own writing. This approach doesn't seem particularly rare.

If I had the next chapter 60% done, it would be weekly. Otherwise it was more like bimonthly because I am slow as hell.
I absolutely love people that post more than 1 awesome chapter a week, I get so addicted to their fic.

On a related note, has anyone else seen that author that has some multi-chapter fic or collection of one shots that churns out a new piece 4k+ literally everyday? I remember a person like that in the Bleach fandom and their work was awful but I was amazed how much they posted every single day.
