What makes for a great fictional friendship in written media?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-28 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
In live action, or even voice acting, chemistry can do a lot. But when it comes to a written medium, what makes you love the friendship between two characters? Are there specific things that you can point to that makes a fictional friendship so awesome and/or memorable? Give examples to illustrate your reasons!

Thanks! I don't watch that, so I was wondering when we started hating Molly Brown.

Who is the woman?

There should be. "Houston, We Have a Problem" will be the signature number.

What's your favorite weird thing that you love about your country?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-28 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It can be food, the people, the landscape or whatever. And which country are you from so that we can tie the weirdness to?

I once knew an Army Sgt. who was like, barely five feet tall. He was one tough mofo.

Walk like a giant and remember the words of Courage Wolf. You'll be fine.

I got more of an impression of it being cultural differences, since it seems like standard male/male interactions in that era were like that

to be fair, I was mostly just watching for the plot and for the pretty pretty men. I wanted them for me, not for each other, lol.

I live in the US and it really differs from region to region. I'd say in regards to the South, the weird food I have eaten. Like raccoon stew and snapper turtle soup.

USA I love the size and variety of it. I love that there are deserts, jungle, a rainforest, snow, mountains, plains...there is so much to see in just one country it's amazing.

I don't really care about this ship, but man is Richard Armitage hot. He's like the physical embodiment of sex.

i....certainly never rooted for Swearengen lol.

right now i think my main dislike for madame is that i fear her end game is some kind of redemption. if she stays horrible and gets a horrible end then i could enjoy her character as part of the story while still despising her guts.

What are your favorite Noodle Incidents (off-screen events that characters mention, usually in a very intriguing way, but then never explain) in all the books/tv shows/movies/etc that you've read/seen? Do you have any headcanons about what happened or have you heard any great theories from other fans?

If they influence each other, or even change deliberately for each other.

For example, in the Protector of the Small series, the friendship between Kel and Neil. He learns so much about chivalry and the value of sincerity from her, and she learns how to open up a bit from him.

I'm with you, OP, I can not stand Thorin/Bilbo. I'm not sure what it is, most other pairings I'm not really into don't bother me to the same extent, it really is more like a squick.

I wish there was more Hobbit gen, tbh. The fact that it's like 98% Bagginshield or Fili/Kili just makes me sad.

I don't like it but if other people do I don't care and I've read some good fic with it in it.

You know, you can just not read fic with the pairing in it and leave the fics be. Then you won't be bothered. Also maybe tumblr savior it if it's coming on your dash a lot.

Warning: TMI about skin problems

(Anonymous) 2013-10-28 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone here have Psoriasis? I've had it since I was a child. Mostly it lingers around the scalp and my feet. It comes and goes but when it comes, it's a horror. I've tried many lotions but nothing has kept it at permanent bay.

If you have it, what do you do for it? What triggers yours? Mine seems to get worse when I go without sleep, eat chocolate and/or use shampoo with sulfates.
