I understand what you are saying with the first paragraph, but what are those two sentences below it? Is that a fake Tumblr exchange? Like the one in " " is a fan of Carlos/Cecil and the second line is a response from a homophobe?

I'm pretty sure the first one you're asking about is their response to homophobes and the last sentence is asserting that it is not gay propaganda despite what a lot of homophobes are saying.

I've never noticed any homophobic people on the tag but I know Joseph Fink has received a few rude letters (or maybe tweets or emails, idk) from people on the subject. Other than that I thought things were pretty chill. At least on THAT front.

Then again I've barely been on tumblr lately.

Those people suck and should leave well enough alone and stop listening to the show, and stay away from the fandom.

So much wank in this fandom is over stuff that's just... So stupidly easily solvable.

Don't like white/blonde/supernatural/whatever Cecil? Don't imagine him that way.

Don't like someone else's headcanon about (whatever character/thing)? Go get your own.

Don't like listening to a radio show with gay dudes in it? Don't listen to a radio show with gay dudes in it.

And yet, it persists, and people are absolute turds about it in every conceivable way. Get it together, guys! :/

I have to admit, the sheer wank in this fandom - and the seeming urge of those within it to faithfully disperse tales of it to the length of breadth of the internet - makes me want to write M/F fic for both Carlos and Cecil.

I don't even follow this series.

And yet... you're tempting me.

It's interesting that your thoughts immediately went to what I presume would be labelled a gay love hate group. (Since I previous admitted to not even following the canon material, it's really unlikely that I care enough to find a faction, much less support one. Your assumption says interesting things about the mindset of the fandom, however.)

I've had to listen to wank regarding personal tattooos and tentacles. At this point, I imagine that anything would lead to wank since nothing is guaranteed to match everyone's head canon.

But, that said, the desire to hear about any pairing other than the "approved" ships (Carlos & Cecil or Cecil & that guy he hates) at this point - and to tailor that fic to be well written yet aggravate as many people as possible - is ridiculously strong.

I saw that letter and Mr. Fink's reply. Why would you even listen to Night Vale if you don't like gay people? It makes no sense.

As far as I know, the WTNV promotional material doesn't say, "HERE BE THE GAYS! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!"

Someone got into the series, didn't like the direction that it took, and wrote to the writers. Happens all the time. That it's on a sensitive topic is neither here nor there in regards to the steps taken.

Cecil falls in love with Carlos in the first episode. They could get one episode in, see it, and leave if they don't like it.

They also have a problem with the show because kids listen to it and they don't want them thinking the gay is normal. Read through a few of their other posts if you're up for it, there's no reasoning with them, it's actually pretty amazing.

It's not an opinion though.

Cecil and Carlos are dating.

It's discussed in the show occasionally.

Unless you take issue with people expressing negative opinions on homophobia, which is pretty normal, especially if the person is queer.

One of the things I like about WTNV is that Ceciel is gay but it's not a Thing. The show doesn't jump up and down and scream about OMG LOOK GAY IS GREAT! Being totally smitten with his crush and then boyfriend is just one of the things that goes on in Cecil's head while he's broadcasting, and the show treats it like everything else about the character. There's a floating cat in the men's restroom. Carlos has perfect hair. The glow cloud is on the school board. John Peters (you know, the farmer?) sells imaginary corn. Mountains do not exist. Nightvale carries on as normal. In the grand scheme of things, Carlos/Cecil is the most everyday and normal thing that has ever happened in Nightvale, ever.

It's the fans, not the show itself, who do the screaming and arm-waving and pointing about OMG YAY GAY!
It's one of the reasons I enjoy the show but avoid the fandom like the plague.
