there's nothing wrong with shippers head canoning that once rin grows up she decides to go back to traveling with sesh. that doesn't automatically make it ~gross~ so long as their relationship is not romantic up until that point.

Fuck off that there's nothing wrong with that. It's an idea that basically reinforces the all-encompassing notion that women are only there to sexually gratify men, and that girls are just sexual-gratification-machines in training. And the notion that women and girls can't have meaningful platonic relationships with men. And that growing curves suddenly makes girls available to anyone with a penis. And that men only associate with women if they can sometime now or in the future have sex with them. And that all of these notions in tandem equals TRUE LOVE.

I remember this one fic where the the author had rin put under some kind of spell that gave her an adult body because they thought that would make it less weird. except rin still had the exact same mentality and personality so it was still pretty creepy

I use to ship this when I was younger but I stopped once I became older and realized how effing creepy it was. I shipped older mature rin /sesshoumaru...it still had grooming undertones though.

It strikes me as rather an interesting coincidence that someone got onto Fanficrants to talk about how someone spammed their fic of this pairing with a review that was nothing but the URL to their anti-pairing rant, their massive blog post about their favourite pairing, had blocked PMs so no one could reply to them, runs a C2 claiming to be "The worst Inuyasha fics ever." but is really just their list of fics that are not their pairing, and apparently has a standard response to anyone they do talk to about it of 'stupid twat'.

Now, if you're someone who actually will sit down and discuss pairing preferences like a mture person, then good for you! As long as you don't act like the person who was posted about on FFN, I have no reason to object to you having an opinion.

I don't even have an opinion about it because I have never been in the fandom. I am just LOLing the timing of this secret.

This is my feeling towards any ships where one side is a child and the other is an adult. An age gap is one thing, but there's just something super-skeevy about a ship where one partner looked after the other as a little kid. My next-door neighbor's kid maybe be legal now, but I babysat him while he was in diapers so the idea of thinking of him in a romantic or sexual light is just gross to me, and I know I'm not the only one.

I don't really care what RinSess fans thought of their ship, but it bugged me that it was always shoehorned in with 'canon ships'. Fanfic would be Inuyasha/Kagome, Miroku/Sango and then... Rin/Sess as if it was on equal footing with them and totally didn't need to explain how it even happened.

Twisted though it is, I think the only palatable way to tackle this pairing is to acknowledge all of that fuckery and steam boldly ahead anyway. Sesshomaru's an immortal blood knight/monster dog/feudal lord on a power trip/sadistic racist, he isn't going to give a shit about human norms of behavior. Shit's going to be dark, but at least then the creep factor makes some kind of sense.

He's waiting for her to grow up. "You can examine your heart at your own pace." Yes, he's aware of his feelings for her AND that she needs to be allowed to grow and mature before she can make a consensual decision.

So nope, not grooming or skeevy in my opinion. Besides, this means, at least according to the anime team, Sess/Rin is canon, even if it's just one-sided.
