New York has a tiny malformed twin growing out of its side named New York City, and whenever anyone talks to New York they talk to New York City instead. New York's all, "GUYS I'M NOT JUST RAPPERS AND MOBSTERS, I ALSO GROW APPLES AND HAVE BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS TO HIKE IN", but nobody listens to him.

It's so weird that you mention this because I was thinking about this exact thing the other day. I couldn't decide if Tennessee would have a mad crush on Texas and vice versa or if they'd be brotps (sis?). Because Tennessee has such a boner for Texas and Texas is like, yeah baby, you know you love me.

How would you imagine Maryland? I'm from Maryland and can't really think of much special other than crabs... maybe because I live so close to DC, I hear a lot more about DC than Maryland.

Do you really have opinions and headcanons for all of the states? Or do you mean that it'd have to match up with the few states you're particular about?

Why not go ahead and make a webcomic then? No one else out there will know your specific preferences.

Since Hetalia became popular there have been several copycat comics in Japan with a similar idea, starring the various prefectures as characters. Some have even been published. I've read a few but I always get put off by the authors' blatant favouritism towards specific regions (usually where the author comes from).

A few years ago, I tried to do a comic strip with idea in mind. It lasted only a few strips before I went, "Yeah, nahhhhh."

Maybe one day I'll get back to it.

I dunno. In Virginia the joke is that you can go from the center of civilization to the middle of nowhere in twenty minutes. Unless traffic is really bad that day, in which it'll take you at least two hours to go four miles. And Northern Virginia is the suck, and the Rest of Virginia hates that part of the state and wishes it would split off like West Virginia did. Virginia can be...interesting. I dunno how you would portray that.

I haven't been in South Carolina very long, but I do know that the state is divided when it comes to football.

I've wanted to see this same thing, but figured it was too complicated with all the varieties the states have. And what would Michigan be like? Would the Lower and Upper Peninsulas count as one state, or would they split into two?

This sounds intriguing. I can just imagine NJ being split down the middle between wanting to be loved by NYC or Philly and then having some sort of comeback about how amazing it is ALL ON ITS OWN DO YOU HEAR?

Oh someone needs to make this happen!

I'd go with American States

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-11-27 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's a bit less redundant than "US States".

Also, I feel like a lot of the states would really end up being dominated by their cities (i.e. would Oregon turn into a hipster because that's basically Portland? And which region would you use to define California, NorCal or SoCal, and how would all of this deal with the inland farmland?)

Good luck, OP! I tried to do this once- I did a ton of research, made character designs and drew up basic personalities for every single state, as well as the territories- but I ended up burning out right after I finished deciding on the characters. |D

If you ever do go through with it, though, here's some things from a Bay Stater's perspective- New England is a huge dysfunctional family and Massachusetts is the best worst big sister, and New York and Mass have had a beautiful, ridiculous rivalry since childhood that cannot be emphasized enough.
