Not sure if that's meant to cheer up the OP or not...

Re: Can't it be both?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Amazing comment. It's never too late.

To the OP, when I start thinking like this about life, I think about my mother who first traveled to America (we live in Europe) when she was 60 and now she's 70+ she makes regular trips to France where she has friends. My mother and my older sisters are my main inspiration, fandom can be one too. Even if it's just in a small way.

If it's any consolation, most people are so self involved they won't notice unless you hit them in the face with it. Even if they do notice, in a negative way, you'll know who to stay away from.

For me the actor made the character. It was just delivered in such a deadpan way, I loved it. ^_^

NA

As someone from a country who got fucked up by Japan in WWII, I do care about it and I can see why they're angry. Japan's refusal to apologize for war crimes is a big issue with a lot of Asian countries.

It was Dot Pixis btw.

Race-centric chattel slavery.

And I think you should probably look up their sources before claiming that they jump to conclusions. Might make you sound less white.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for that very sane comment.

in addition to forcing them to incur a colossal amount of medical debt.

That's just the cherry on top isn't it? The state made a decision against the family's wishes, but there is about zero chance the state will ever take responsibility for that decision. It's an additional act of torture on top of everything else the family has been through, and there probably nothing they can do about it.

Great comment!

it's sort of like deciding that if you lived in the Middle Ages, you would've totally been a knight or a noble. Possible, but unlikely.

I see a lot of this around. People coming from what is basically a privileged (yes, using that word on purpose) situation making assumptions on how they would act in a completely different situation.

I just fast forwarded through the most of s3

aww, I hope it will get better for you.

Re: What constitutes a crack pairing?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Sauron/Merry

... Doable, in a horrible, possessing-Merry's-best-friend sort of way? If you factor in Sauron's brief mind-connection to Pippin via the palantir, and posit a Merry/Pippin-possessed-by-Sauron scenario ...

And I don't know why I'm saying this. I need to stop taking crack pairs as challenges.

AYRT

I know Pepper/Tony, Jane/Thor, and Steve/Bucky are relatively prominent ships, but I didn't think they were as popular as Thor/Loki, Clint/Coulson, Steve/Tony, etc.

Going with AO3 numbers and rounding to the nearest hundred:
Steve/Tony - 6200
Clint/Coulson - 4600
Clint/Natasha - 3400
Thor/Loki - 3000
Pepper/Tony - 3000
Loki/Tony - 2900
Bruce/Tony - 1700
Jane/Thor - 1600
Steve/Bucky - 1100

(No idea what the ff.net situation is other than that the various MCU fandoms are all split up and really annoying to get data for.)

So, on the one hand, you're right that Thor/Loki is more popular than Pepper/Tony (about equal numbers, but Thor/Loki's rarely included as a background ship in fic, while Pepper/Tony more often is), Jane/Thor, and Steve/Bucky. On the other hand, once you're into 1000+ fics territory, I think you qualify as a popular ship, which all three of the pairings I named do.

And even looking strictly at numbers, I wouldn't say Thor/Loki's hugely more popular than those ships (esp. Pepper/Tony)...and there's a good chance that Steve/Bucky will catch up considerably this April.

Children are invariably badly written. Either too twee or too psychotic. THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND.

Re: I got Xkit today

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...But Tumblr Savior (or at least, the Firefox version) also lets you see the relevant tags, enter usernames as a blocked term, as well as block content in the body of the post. All you have to do is blacklist 'thing' rather than '#thing'.

It still doesn't have all of the nifty options that xkit does, but TS can and will catch untagged stuff.

Of course, it would be 'good manners' to tag your posts, but really there is no law against not tagging.

It's kind of annoying to go on the Sherlock and see that 10% of the posts are people saying, "Please tag your post because spoillersszz!!1" Don't want to get spoiled? Stay away.

Excellent reply, thank you for clearing things up so I can continue to love Disney as the creator of amazing things without too many complications!

I get it when they ask their friends to tag for spoilers immediately after a new episode came out and you can't avoid seeing the spoilers your friends may post on your dashboard. But especially if it's a few days after the new episode came out/they complain about spoilers in the general tag, that's just silly.

I love some Disney films, at the moment Frozen is one of my favourite things. But I've never had a problem acknowledging the man was ruthless and nasty, that's been a very well known thing for many years. I don't see why it even matters whether he was a nice person or not. It's the output that matters.

It does bother me that they treat their staff badly, a friend used to work for Disney and always referred to them as The Evil Empire. I've read about how bad some of the conditions are for staff at the theme parks. But the films are great for the most part.

The judge made the right call in ordering her taken off LJ so the family can FINALLY grieve.

Specifically literally made me laugh out loud. XD

No. For one thing, is there even Turkey in the SnK world? For another, a person's name doesn't necessarily tell anything about their ethnicity.
