16. WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO COMPREHEND?

I mean, Jesus christ, it's two people spending time together and doing a hobby together, even if it's over the Internet. There are still two human beings BONDING over something. How, therefore, is it strange if the one ends up falling in love with the other?

ESPECIALLY if they're doing romance RPs, because it might reach that point where you realize that you share your character's feelings for the other person or something.

I don't know, I don't see how it's different than if you ended up falling in love with a guy you play chess with every day. It's called HUMAN INTERACTION AND BONDING, people.

OH, WAIT, I FORGOT. THERE ARE NO FUCKING PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET. THE PERSON YOU ARE CLEARLY TALKING TO IS A ROBOT.

(for the record, I met my girlfriend on the Internet, so yes, I am speaking from experience. I just don't see how this means I'm "desperate" for love or something.)

Did you miss the part about "not everybody being like that"? There are always exceptions. But from what I've seen, assuming what you say is true (and I've no reason to think otherwise) you're the exception rather than the rule.

Even so, as great as the internet can be for forging friendships, it's no substitute for real life. And that was the entire point of the secret, that it seems to me that so many of the people I see submitting secrets like this are substituting it for reality.

But mainly the flood of RP secrets just gets annoying. There should be a separate damn comm.

15: Meh, not everyone does. And that's fine~ Also, really, most of the fandom won't bite your head off for not liking it (especially since it seems to be popular to hate it these days). Pairing wank is just dumb--especially if it spills out into people. I HATE Phoenix/Maya, Edgeworth/Franziska, and Gumshoe/Edgeworth--but I'm great friends with people who love them. If people let pairings get in the way of friendship then they're not very good friends.

16: I agree with pretty much everything in this secret so much. Let's cut down on RP secrets, please? Make your own damn community. (And while yes, I can understand "falling in love" online and e-dating even if I've personally grown out of it... and can see where some of them come from... I sort of agree with the second part)

30: Okay, am I the only one who thinks that shipping real people you interact with on a day-to-day basis is kind of fucking creepy?

2. Luckily, by the time I found fandom, I had my own computer that my mom couldn't get into. I still worry that if I die, my family will somehow find a way to go through my computer and I don't want that since they're a bunch of old prudes.

23. Yes, bigger fandoms tend to have more bad apples, but there are also more writiers and thus the chance that a good writer will see the series. I just hope Death Note fandom doesn't become as bad as Bleach (which... I doubt that somehow) but then again Bleach had started to get wanky about ships before it ever aired on AS.

28. I feel your pain. :( And the funniest thing for me is that wank has spread about this in several comment threads here. I guess you got your wish!

32. Sadly, all of fandom is kind of like this. The general consensus in fandom is that people really aren't supposed to have opinions about anything or to *gasp* dislike something, even in one's own journal. I think the best bet is to be respectful of other people in their journals, and to disagree with them nicely, but put your foot down about what you do in your own journal. If they don't like it, they'll go somewhere else, which might be the best thing for both of you.

16--I'm not a big RP'er, but I did fall in love with someone I met on LJ. For me it was 100% the real thing, even if I feel really silly about it now--since it didn't work out at all.
When I see these secrets I feel really worried for these people, that they are really in love, just like I was, and that it won't work out, and that they'll be as horribly heart broken as I was and that they'll ruin a great freindship.
The problem is, not that many people are actually homosexuals statistically. I don't think most of these girls (and yes I'm making the asumption of most of fandom being female) aren't really lesbians, and online gender becomes uniportant and it's all an emotional connection, but when they finally meet or actually think about what a homosexual relationship actually means, it will all fall apart.
But maybe I'm just jaded and pessimistic.

32--GET BETTER FRIENDS
Real friends aren't judgemental. You should find people that like and support you even if your opinions differ. One of my best friends is totally against gay marriage and Iesbian, yet we like and respect each other enough to not let our differences make us dislike each other.
Or maybe you should just have more faith in them--try being honest with them and see what happens. Maybe they won't hate you and you're worrying for naught.

No, I agree with you on a lot of that. I used to do the whole e-dating thing especially when I was younger, and... it never ended well XD; Well, I can't say never, but the enduring friendship I have now was BECAUSE we were all "yeah, this... isn't going to work."

As a guy I don't feel entirely qualified to comment on the second part, though I agree with it in spirit and theory. And that I, too, am likely jaded and pessimistic. :P

I love multifandoms but I feel disheartened when there is an abundance of anime and it smothers the tv/book/movie characters. :< Nothing against Anime, I like it, but srsly... if any of you know of a not so anime-heavy multifandom, tell me too?

this is always something that bothered me. how does having an abundance of anime make playing a tv/book/movie character any different? is it that you can't imagine in your mind how an animated character can interact with a character that appears flesh and blood?

I don't get how that makes things any different in an RP. interactions are interactions, characters are characters no matter their source.
