Re: The ridiculous little things that make your pets happy.

Sometimes my dog doesn't settle at night. She walks and paces and just can't seem to settle down. On those nights I'll stop and ask her "do you want me to tuck you in?" and she'll run upstairs and jump on her bed and flip around for "cuddles" and goodnight kisses. Then she's down for the night.

Sometimes she'll also get all jumpy and weird and look at me a certain way and I'll ask "Is it cuddle time?" or "Time for cuddles!" and she'll run/hop/bounce into whatever room I say and roll over and we'll cuddle for awhile. Which is hilarious because she's a kind of cat-like dog in which she doesn't give much feedback or care for pets most of the time, but every now and then she needs a cuddle.

I am really curious about Nat and Fury's relationship, at this point. She was far more upset about him than I was anticipating her being, and they really played it up. I feel like I missed whatever they were getting at.

But you know what I really loved? I loved that there wasn't a bunch of shitty in-fighting among the protagonists. I mean. It's a movie that's built on not trusting people, but Steve Rogers looked at that and went, NOPE, not on my watch. There was no artificial, stupid drama, just friends taking care of each other and being awesome and I LOVE THAT SO MUCH, HOLY COW. It might have been my favorite part of the movie.

I don't think it would be a good idea to read new/expensive books in the book club if we're going to do it. We should focus on books that are easy to access and have been out for a while.

I find spines to be one of the most sensual body parts.

Ooo, that is quite specific and complex, also a decent role to have. I LIKE IT.

2. Where I live, the population is thinly spread in an ecosystem which has been fire-based for millenia. The trees, huge forests of them, exude inflammable oils. When a high wind blows off the desert, at temperatures of 40 degrees plus, any fire, even if caused by dried grass rubbing together, is likely to spread out of control. Heat, fuel, oxygen: a terrifying combination.

The farmland is good agricultural land in a country which doesn't have too much of it, and for nine months of the year it's a great place to live. For the other three months, everyone's slightly on edge. Each householder has a fire plan (or should have) and controlled burns are done, but short of burning the entire state each year, it isn't enough... There are volunteer fire crews in each community, brave as lions, all of them. There are helicopters and planes. If a really big fire takes hold, we have crews coming in from other countries, and we do the same for them, which is wonderful.

Still: thank god it's autumn.

There is a free program called calibre which can convert most ebook files to something you can read on a computer (PDF and such).

And that's your choice, so all good. And i figured since the shit-stream shows weekly, Case wouldn't really care one way or another.

Maybe because the more recognized spiritual stuff (i.e., most organized religions) almost always favor men.

Or maybe they don't, because I'm not sure where you're getting your information.

Re: Favourite Characters you like to see Whumped?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Steve Rogers; he's durable and heals well, so I don't feel much real worry for him, but also it's a chance for him to be vulnerable and taken care of.

Don Eppes. IDK man, he's always stoic FBI-guy to Charlie's flighty brain guy and I like people mixing it up.

Rodney McKay. I kind of have a thing for people who bitch about small injuries but clam up about actual big worrisome ones, it's weird I know. Also I love team!fic and that's usually a component, whumpage of one of more members. (BTW, anyone who likes team!fic and whumped Rodney definitely has to check out Tipper's fics! She's the actual best, for Mag7 fic too ^^)

Oh? That's cool. I tend to read only actual books - don't know why, since i read so much fic. I *like* books - i like the smell and feel of them, to *have* them in my hands. I just can't afford all the ones i want.

Today the first chapter of the podfic Blue Sky has been released and the fandom has gone mostly crazy with it.

Did you hear it? What do you think of it? Love it? Hate it with all your guts? Share your thoughts here!

Re: Possible wank inducer? Still "interesting" though

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I clicked the link and checked out the title/summary etc but did not go further. It does look like a heavily feminist approach. Though use of the word patriarchy is not "extreme" and is a valid term when talking about certain examinations of society. Not sure what you meant when you said that it was extreme or what you're reacting to, exactly.

Also teachers do not only assign articles they agree with. Sometimes it's important to look at all the extremes or sides of a topic and also it's an excellent way to facilitate discussion in the classroom. So just because your teacher assigned this doesn't mean she endorses that kind of thinking.

MTE.

Noodles, do you like it up the butt or not?

Fires

(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, because you are dealing with a huge amount of land (generally, fires often happen in the Southwestern states and those states have a lot of area). There's a thing that happens based on rainfall, if it is uneven (a lot of rain one year and much less the next or a lot of rain during the growth season and then very little later) then you get a lot of built up growth that then dries out and it takes very little to start a fire. But a fire can happen in any of the thousands of acres of growth and fires are unpredictable - they can go in any direction, they can hop roads. They do controlled burns, sometimes, but they have to be very careful about those too.
