By chance OP, do you also hate that clique of Sherlock Tumblr users (taikova, flyingrotten, ivorylungs) who INSIST that Sherlock/John is canon and if anyone says otherwise they are homophobic asswipes?

I am neither OP nor familiar with that particular group, but from your description I have a strong feeling that EVERYONE who comes into contact with them, and is not them, hates them.

I guess I am lurking in the wrong places in this fandom, because I've yet to see anyone who actually believes that Johnlock will become canon....where is this supposedly happening so much that it's making you hate the fandom?!

I hate this opinion too. Though admittedly at this point I consider it to be a legitimate possibility, and I'm very sad that canon Sherlock/third party romance is a thing that may happen one day. Regardless of whether it's slash or het.

Well, granted, it may have much to do with my personal quirks and preferences (romance between leads in any show is an instant nope-out) as well as the fact that I think that Sherlock's being anything other than aromantic-asexual directly contradicts the spirit of ACD canon. To the point where it ruins the character altogether.

it's just not how they envisioned the characters / not the story they want to tell. i completely believe they would go there if they wanted to, it is the 21st century after all.

I ship sherlock/john too, but there is so way they are ever actually getting involved.

You see it in SPN too - people arguing that wincest is totally canon, or destiel is. And you know, you can always find evidence to back it up, but ultimately people are creating shows in a very homophobic society so unless it is spelled out at the beginning that yes! this is a gay character, it is unlikely to happen.

But I would be very happy to be proven wrong!

I dunno OP, I think based on what's actually happenned in the show Johnlock is a logical step. Do I think that means it would actually happen? No probably not. I mean Mary and the baby is basically the big hurdle they have put in which makes me believe it wont happen. But one can hope. At the very least, after S3, I don't know how we're supposed to assume that Sherlock is anything but in love with John. If either one of them was a woman there would be no doubt in the audiences mind that that's the way it would be going.

The important thing for me would be if it did happen it would just be the progression of their relationship it wouldnt be a massive plot line that took up an entire episode. I identify as queer so this becoming canon is more that just shipping preferences for me. In terms of the queerbaiting side of it, I quite like what the Digital Spy review of TEH had to say about it and it rather sums up my feelings on johnlock becoming canon: "Either let Sherlock and John have a platonic, loving friendship, which only relative strangers would have reason to misinterpret. Or if there is actually something more between them, something that would justify a person as close to them as Mrs Hudson making that leap, then go ahead and give that idea the actual exploration it deserves in this day and age. The only-joking-or-are-we pussyfooting around it is getting tired."


I dunno, I get sick of being called delusional for something that, to me, seems so obvious (and I am talking about the ship here not necessarily the ship becoming canon). Perhaps thats just me viewing the show through my queer goggles but I think that their relationship evolving to a relationship seems like a natural progression to me. I feel that unfortunately I'll be queer baited til the end, but I am still holding a little hope even that does make me delusional.

Stuff like this is why I stay out of the Sherlock fandom.
I don't ship Holmes and Watson in any incarnation, and how I understand the show, it doesn't actually portray them as a couple but acknowledges that the fans ship them.
Heck, there were some bits in the first couple of episodes where it looked to me like they trotted out the Johnlock and then dismissed it, as if to say, "see this thing we know you're going to say? Well, you're wrong. They aren't boyfriends".

Frankly, I can't stand either side of the militant "I know what the show-runners are going to do!" debate, especially when they try to base their assertions on things the show-runners say when Moffat can't seem to get through an interview without lying. I love reading meta about what's actually in the show, but, with these creators, trying to divine creator intent from interviews is pointless.
