He worked on The Patriot as an extra and said Mel Gibson was a douche (this may be one of the reasons he absconded with several props).
He helped build one of the sets for Leatherheads and said George Clooney was a pretty cool guy.
He met Jesse James and said he was an asshole that is full of himself.
Re: Celebrities
I mean, I briefly met Stephen Colbert a few years ago when he was "running" for President, he stopped by my college campus and I got to shake his hand. I also met Neil Gaiman at one of his book signings and he was pretty chill.

He also wrote a series of novels that is pretty much in my top 5 favourites of all times. I wish I could meet him.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 12:12 am (UTC)(link)Well, more than a decade after the movie was released, I sent Toby Emmerich an email saying I had watched the commentary, it was one of my favorite movies, and Noah owed him a buck. He actually replied and was very nice.
This story was much better in my head. Sorry.

Oh and I don't know if artists count but I met Todd Lockwood, who is one of my favourite fantasy artists, at GenCon UK the following year. He was also nice and friendly and we had a little chat about art and stuff.

John Schneider is one of the sweetest men in the world.
I used to hang out with an 80's teen star. He was adorable. He never knew how to deal with the adulation, though. It embarrassed him more than anything. We had a waitress refuse to give us our bill because she was trying to get someone to come to the restaurant with a camera to get a photo of him with her. I had to convince my friend to just sign an autograph so we could leave. Another time, we were out to dinner with a new college-age friend, and she had to show how she could stuff her whole fist in her mouth. Uh, okay, that was embarrassing for both of us.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 06:06 am (UTC)(link)On the flipside, I got to speak very briefly to Sam Raimi during SeaQuest's heyday when he was randomly a guest in what amounted to the snack bar of a NASA event day. I felt so sorry for him because whoever decided he should be a guest didn't really pay attention to the purpose of the day (anniversary of the moon landing) and then they stuck him on a stage with 8 people around. He kept trying to get people in the audience to ask questions but there wasn't any, so he just went off stage and signed autographs. He was very sweet. I still have the poster he signed even though this was prooobably 20 years ago.

I got a chance to ask Robert Hewitt Wolfe about a DS9 episode he'd written that featured Garak -- some of the speeches sounded almost like metered verse, so I asked him if he'd done that deliberately. His answer was no, but that he now wished he had -- and the answer was written in verse. :)
