Yes it is~

If you need any more pick-me-ups let me know.

Huey is sort of like Lisa Simpson, you get the idea that he's supposed to be the voice of reason a lot, especially when he's narrating, but the show also sometimes steps back and shows that he tends to overthink things, and he is still just a kid, so he can be wrong.

The balance with characters like this is a delicate thing, as you make them the voice of reason too often, and viewers will treat them like an author mouthpiece, so when the character is wrong, the audience will misattribute the character's mistakes with the creator's actual beliefs.
On the flipside, if you do a poor job making them the reasonable character, then they just tend to come off as a stuck up jackass talks down to all the other characters.

You're joking, right? You DO realize that bi-racial people/families still get a lot of shit from both sides? The Boondocks addresses the issue with the same dark (no pun intended) humor and satirical social commentary as it does with everything else. I highly doubt their depictions are the actual, legitimate views of the creator; in fact, I'm pretty sure he's showing the sort of shit bi-racial families and people go through and NOT condoning it at all.

Re: Fandom Secrets Reading Patterns?

I generally skim and read the secrets relevant to my interests.

An unusual relationship of any kind of fandom (i.e. books, television shows, movies, ect.) that is unlikely to happen. In fact a person must be on crack to even support such a relationship.

IP is automated, I think; the_missing_y shouldn't be able to see them, the EasyPolls website just uses IP logging to prevent poll-rigging.

Re: canon or fanon?

Well now, I don't remember the canon but I now have to go and reread all my favorite V/V fics. There's my evening gone. ;)

I passed my driver's test! I'm going to have to wait almost a week to actually get my license, but that's one burden off my back.

SMT: Nocturne is in the PS3 store now. I've heard it's really good, so I can't wait to buy it.

The actors are definitely not anti-gay. Tyler Posey made some anti-Sterek remarks (he called it "bizarre and strange" or something like that) but he's supported Scott/Stiles and has taken part in marriage equality stuff.

Guessing you've not read past these and seen where Huey actualls speaks to Tom about how they constantly try and play down the African American features in Jasmine?
Huey does come off a bit brash in these strips, but it plays off of how white washed Tom is. While Huey has a major disdain for most of black culture, he is still proud of his people and race, and sees Tom's somewhat denial and giving that to his daughter as well as disappointing.

One where the characters don't really interact on any meaningful level. I don't think Stiles and Derek are around each other enough and what scenes they do have don't hold enough meaning or importance to their own character. *shrug*

Not that a crack ship is bad. I like 'em. Keeps me young.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I might be wrong but lots of people involved in this show are on the LGB spectrum and support other ships. I remember someone mentioning that Scott's actor liked him with Isaac (but not Allison and made some rude comment? I don't follow the fandom), Jacksons actor is openly gay and some people in production/scripting? Someone knows more D:? Also possibly Stiles is bisexual in canon (weeeeelll, all the times pestering Danny and the pause with Caitlyn). The homophobia kind of came with yet another comment Scott's actor made specificly about Stiles and Derek - he worder it wrong but he had just hated constantly asked about them.

Re: canon or fanon?

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2014-05-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The line that sparked this thought is actually from a Vetinari/Drumknott fic with a side of Vetinari+Vimes friendship, haha. I couldn't make an evening of reading V/D fics if I tried, it's a regrettably small fandom.

Eh.

It's kind of stupid. But stupid things happen in comics.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad people think he's boring- he lacks about 85% of the stereotyping you normally get with PoC, and that makes me happy because I can relate with that.

From what I've seen of them on tumblr, I actually thought this was a canon pairing. My mind, kind of blown.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
And honestly, based only on the show (no fandom meta or cute fics) Sterek is kind of bizarre and strange. I mean that in the best way. I like my pairings a little on the bizarre and strange side. But, dude. Derek is a twenty-something with serious issues who lurks around and is super secretive about everything and Stiles is a sixteen year old.

Re: "Just One Time"

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I just found it weirdly unfunny. Like, I could see the bits that were supposed to be jokes, but none of them actually landed.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Can I just say Craig Parker's full frontal in Spartacus was the hottest thing ever? So that being said, ipso facto, the only 'cest he could possibly want is selfcest.

[personal profile] making_excuses 2014-05-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Why is that wrong or bad? I watched and probably enjoyed the Lord of the Rings films more because it is one of my friends favorite stories, I also read fantasy books she recommends me and I enjoy them even if they aren't what I usually read. It might be because she is my friend and speaks highly of it, but what does it matter, I still enjoy it

Just like my clothes, political leanings and how I look at society gets shaped by my friends and other people who I admire. I still think for myself and make up my mind, but I am sure I would not discuss feminism as much if it wasn't for my best friend and she wouldn't be as observant about LGBT things if it wasn't for me.

In both of those instances, or views didn't change, but the way we look and understand it got shaped by each other. Isn't that what friendship is for?

I am not saying you can't like or enjoy things your friends don't, I do that too, but it isn't anything wrong with being influenced by friends. I assume they are your friends because you like and admire them...

OH, I'm not checking jack shit. For one, I don't know how, and even if I did, I have to sleep because I'm going to work in 5 hours. for the whole "Don't abuse the multi-vote" thing you all are on the honour system. Honest mistakes wont hurt the voting balance, don't think people will be able to hold it against you, and like I say, I've not the time nor inclination to check up on who voted how many times.

Don't know why it didn't register your first vote, though. Are you happy it at least recorded your second vote?

I think if the girl was meant to be a sympathetic character, she would get more sympathy. Maybe the show is nicer to her, but I read a few years of the comics, and the closest thing she got to being the one who made the joke rather than the butt of the joke was that bit where she was preaching about how Santa Claus died for our gifts and rose from the dead. Even the dumbass kid who thought he was gangsta got to be the one who made the joke rather than the butt of it occasionally.

Re: canon or fanon?

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2014-05-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure? I ruled that one out because the way I remember the line is something like this: 'When did Lord Vetinari sleep? Wasn't there a room somewhere, with a black dressing gown hanging on the back of the door?' But the only time Vimes visited Vetinari for a regular appointment during Feet of Clay is at the end, and I've already gone through that scene.

That's from one of Sebastian Stan's first films, The Architect.
