Kyousogiga.

One of the best anime I've seen in years, but it seems like nobody's even heard of it.

I've been wanting to fangirl about the GONE series with someone for ages now, but the fandom seems non-existent or else very young and not up to much other than silly picture memes. Which, don't get me wrong, some are quite funny but just not the kind of fandom-involvement I'm craving.

Also, Spirited Away. I have an epic plotbunny for that movie but again, not enough fandom to absorb and so I'm none too motivated to write it right now.

Y'all need to be watching Journeyman and joining me in fannish joy over it. At first blush it sounds pretty Quantum Leapy being about a reporter who rights wrongs while time traveling. But there's so much more to it, starting with him not being stuck in the time he lands in until his mission is done. He goes back and forth between his present and various points in the past of whoever he's supposed to help. He can't control it and has no idea why it's happening.

But the potential for messing up his present is pretty great, and oh yeah, the fiance he thought was dead shows up to give him time travel tips. And his brother thinks he's fallen off the wagon at best and is having some sort of mental break at worst, so if you like that sort of concern family concern, there's plenty of that. It also has great female characters - and avoids the temptation to create relationship drama between Dan, his wife and aforementioned fiance.

Stars: Kevin McKidd (which autocorrect hilariously just turned to McMuffin), Gretchen Egolf, Reed Diamond and Moon Bloodgood.

I wish I weren't on my phone over my dinner break or this would be a much better sell.

I think everyone who read my comments knows what I have to say about Murder Rooms, Catch-22, Rivers of London, and the like, but every one of these has SOME fans and SOMETHING of a fandom.

The Murder Rooms novels, on the other hand? Literally the only person I've encountered who read them is the Australian anon (thank you for existing, by the way <3). COME ON. WHY. NO. This is a Gothic Victorian detective trilogy with noir undertones and an epic friendship/obsession! It has genuine ciphers described at length! The characterization is great and so is the language! I love Pirie's clipped sentences; they give the story a cold charm that matches the atmosphere so. What is there not to like? ?? ????

At this point I almost reconciled myself with the fact that I'll be the only fan forever and ever.

Is there a fandom for El Goonish Shive? I assume there must be one, but all I've really found is the hatedom. (Plot-wise, it's bog-standard urban fantasy, but the characters have a very wide range of personalities, and it's fun to see how they bounce off each other.)

Anyone besides me read the Danny Beckett novels by Tyler Dilts? The two titles released to this point are A King of Infinite Space and The Pain Scale. Yes, I know it's genre reading, but the characters are well developed, and Dilts manages to subvert many suspense novel tropes (e.g. any of the main characters having sex). The third book was supposed to roll out this month, but it got pushed back to late July. I'm waiting with bated breath for it.

Inkheart - a book by Cornelia Funke (which also had a movie based on it, a few years ago). It's also got two sequels.

I have came to like Phi Brain a lot and I'm not sure why. You can watch it as a condensed version of those long running Card Game Anime (Yugioh and Cardfight Vanguard), which have a relatively larger fandom. I know it's a kids anime, but it's still a let down that despite there being three 25-episodes seasons there's very little fic online X_X Anyway, this light-hearted anime has been a refreshing experience as I've grown burnt out of the obligatory social commentary in media that is actually targeted for my age group.

I'm wondering too if anyone online is following and is into the Baby Steps a.k.a 'normal tennis' manga. I have yet to catch up to the latest scanlations, but read quite a bit beyond where the anime would have ran out of episodes. I highly doubt that this series would get a second season since it's not one of the juggernaut sports series, so there's little hope of there being an active fic fandom.

Another great franchise for relaxing and unwinding is the Kamen Rider franchise and Tokusatsu in general. Alas, my favourite Kamen Rider is Faiz, which is close to the most infamous entry in the franchise (for very good reasons, admittedly). I don't really have any significant opinions about the other series, but please talk to me about Faiz.

Overall, ever since the migration from LJ to tumblr, most English-speaking anime fandoms seem small and obscure in comparison to Western fandoms :/

Last Exile, always Last Exile. It's full of amazing characters, even boring, generic, main character Claus isn't too bad.

The famdom mostly lives on tumblr now, but there is a very WIP site: http://over-the-sky.net/main/
The gallery section is definitely worth a look, and there are forms, where I have a monthly fandom challenge thread!

Please go check it out. I still go there every day, and I think I'm the only one.

My fandom's not small or obscure - it's one of the biggest that exists. But the "traditional"/fanfic-writing, fanart-drawing side is relatively small, though it's still out there.

I will always stan for Jackie Chan Adventures in threads like this. The four or so people in the fandom are super great, but damn, does this show need more love.

As far as I can tell, the War and Peace fandom is just me and one other person, but I want to talk about it forever.

I don't really know where things stand with Rome and I, Claudius, but I haven't been able to find an active fandom for either and I wants it, precious. So many feelings just sloshing around in the lead-lined clay jar of my heart; I want somewhere to pour them all out.

I also kind of wish there were Ibsen fixfic that I could read to make myself feel better after reading Ibsen plays, but that is a very specific wish.

Earth 2! It was a scifi cool show that got the shaft after one season, but it had interesting things going on and good characters. One of my favorite characters and favorite canon couples of all time is from that show. (Morgan was my fave character and I loved him and his wife Bess together.)

I wish K Project had a bigger fandom. I enjoyed the show and the cast so much and the side material is the gift that keeps on giving (and quite honestly the thing that made me finally start studying Japanese, so I don't have to always rely on the kindness of others to translate it).

Also I really wish the manga 7 Seeds had a fandom. Hell, Yumi Tamura manga in general (Basara is so amazing and for certain volumes, so very out of print. Digital publishing's just not the same).

I love Knight Rider, because it is so amazingly 80s and stars a hot car with an attitude, and truly, is there any better love story than a man and his car?

(There would be if I had a Corvette, but that's neither here nor there. ;D)

Any Final Fantasy that isn't VII or XIII. Hell, even though I love it, I'll throw X into that lot too.

IX was my first and I love it dearly, but too often does it fall under the 'WORST FINAL FANTASY /EVER/!1' title.

I tend to read and enjoy YA novels, most of which have small fandoms and are totally under appreciated or underrated. Some of my favorite YA novels are: Delirium by Lauren Oliver; Graceling by Kristen Cashore; anything Tamora Pierce (especially Tortall); and Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block.

Also my favorite miniseries of all time is 10th Kingdom. This was such a formative miniseries for me, and it was what first got me into twisted fairytales.

I'm always so surprised how small the Call the Midwife online fandom seems to be- I guess its main audience are not fanfic/tumblr types?

But I love that show so fucking much. The supporting characters are so interesting that I genuinely am not worried about the main character leaving because they'll carry on fine. I keep expecting to get tired of how melodramatic it is, but it works so well.
