(For the life of me I can't find the first page of this scene where the man first insults Steve, though I'm certain I have it somewhere. Anyone have a copy?)

It's Captain America v5 #26, but it does seem that it's not available on the internet. :(

(As a sidenote, I actually own the original pencils for the second of your linked pictures and the one that directly follows it. Most expensive thing I've ever purchased. ^^; The scene just sort of breaks me in twain. )

THANK YOU! Saving these right now. (I know I've even read this part of the comics so idk where the images went, but it's great you found them! I love this scene so fucking much. Ugh, Bucky. Bucky.)

Every now and then I wish that MCU!Bucky hadn't been such a lovely character. Because then I'd only have to worry about ONE set of Bucky feels.

Instead we got Sebastian Stan being a Bucky that's amazing and pretty and sweet and great, and I found myself going to see tWS in theaters more times than I can count on one hand, and…he's breaking my heart on the screen and on paper.

And about then I realize I was stupid to ever not want to like a beloved character, anyway, and just hold on for the ride, no matter how brutally it breaks my heart.

D'awww, but you can love Bucky twice as much now! And you know that Bucky is such a wonderful character that he deserves every bit of that love! Love Bucky, anon. Embrace your Bucky feelings. (Steve Rogers certainly has, and you know Steve is a good judge of character!)

Marvel is devious as hell and casting Sebastian as Bucky was a stroke of brilliance. His eyes say everything he can't, and it is terrible.

NAYRT

Butbutbut I have things I need to be doing, I can't spend all my time obsessing over Sebastian Stan and Bucky Barnes.

*spends all the time obsessing over Sebastian Stan and Bucky Barnes*

GODDAMNIT MARVEL I had a life once, you know!

Sebastian Stan has taken your life and isn't giving it back. Just know that for the next decade you will be in love with that man. Accept it now, for that way you can't be surprised when you fall into a deep pit of despair about Bucky Barnes' unfortunate life and Sebastian Stan's impossibly sad eyes.

Re: SA: FOUND IT! :D

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I must not resist Sebastian Stan. Sebastian Stan is the mind-killer. Sebastian Stan is the beautiful man that brings total obsession. I will face Sebastian. I will permit his sad gaze to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn my eyes to the Captain America screen. Where the sad gaze has gone there will be everything. Only Bucky will remain."

Or something like that. :)

Too late. :P Though now I'm sad that those fandoms - especially political animals - aren't bigger. So much potential, not enough people in the fandom. :(

It seems to be going that way even if didn't want it to. :p

Marvel, despite what they've said, will never convince me that the Winter Soldier WASN'T in their plans. Because, hell, while Stan is more than good as a playboy, his strength is very much in the land of tortured silence.

Re: SA: FOUND IT! :D

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-25 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Did Marvel actually say they weren't sure they were doing Winter Soldier? There's no way I believe that either. Even if they didn't have concrete plans, they must've known bringing him back was a strong possibility. What would they even do without Bucky?

Like...idk, maybe because I haven't read ALL the comics, but Bucky is so closely tied to Steve, and I just can't imagine what else they could have done that would've had this big of an emotional impact. Steve and Bucky's epic romance friendship was just what they needed to ensnare their audience. Bucky is the perfect (not-really-an-antagonist-)antagonist.

Re: SA: FOUND IT! :D

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
It was strong implied by several people that tWS wasn't any plan at all. What they would have done, I don't know. But in the comics Bucky is much more reliant on Steve (even when he's dead) than Steve is on Bucky. Steve has had decades without Bucky, and has a much bigger circle of friends, in the comics. Bucky comes with the same "brainwashed assassin for over half a century" backstory, and the only thing he really hopes for is to make Steve proud.

Thank you for using antagonist, rather than villain. Anyone who calls him that will face my wrath quicker than those bar patrons Bucky takes out for calling Cap a traitor.

Ooo, that's so cool anon! I bet it was worth the money. You must treasure them so much!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-24 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
When I became an adult I had to decide what things were going to be worth my time and money.

After a short personal/internal struggle with the general perception in my family that my nerdery should be grown out of, I said "fuck it, I don't care" and decided that I was going to collect high-quality figures and original comic art. I have never had cause to regret it.

Those particular pages are certainly some of my most treasured, though, yes. All the Bucky feels, man. ALL of them. :(
elaminator: (Avengers: Cap (leather jacket))

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-25 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, nerdery isn't something you need to grow out of. It's something that you can carry with you for the rest of your life (if you want). It isn't hurting anyone and if it brings you joy then it's worth it. No reason not to do what makes you happy, right?

Besides, figures and art are awesome. :p

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm bad at learning such lessons. I keep trying to be the "adult" that I think that people think I should be. Then I realize I'm miserable and go back to being a fangirl and a nerd. It's happened 2-3 times in my life so far. :(
elaminator: (Captain America: TWS - Cap (badass walk))

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-05-25 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Again, if it isn't hurting anyone I don't see what the problem is. Everyone's different, if this is what you care about you should embrace it. There's no reason you need to be what anyone else thinks you should be. You only have one life, you might as well enjoy it.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Slowly learning this. Struggled with it in my 20s. Coming to accept and embrace it in my 30s. Hopefully by my 40s I won't give a fuck what anyone says. :D

My mother and I were discussing how, at my age, I ought to have a lot more money in the bank than I do, preparing for my retirement. Unfortunately, I left a relatively lucrative job 2 years before I would've achieved retirement benefits, and have not yet found a job that offers anything comparative where I've been currently living for the past ten years.

Mom suggested that maybe my action figures, my model horses, and my original anime cels and genki are my retirement, which, considering some of them are currently going for a lot of money, and some will continue to accrue in value, isn't necessarily a bad thought (we won't go into the signed first publications, because there just aren't enough of those).

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
That is an option, although I doubt I'll ever have more than 10-15k worth of stuff, if only because I live in an apartment. >.>;
