Mainly: I ship the hell out of it. And yeah. I can see why you'd be afraid...but really? Incest pairings are becoming more "mainstream" -- look at Weasleycest and Twincest and Wincest (isn't that the term for the guys on Supernatural?). Granted, these tend to be yaoi pairings, but given that femmeslash is pretty common, too...


...I say support what you believe in. And to be fair, Juste and Miya are pretty hot.

10. I'm no Zutarian by a long-shot (nor am I a Kataanger), but I must say, wow, there's been some serious Zutara bashing going on here lately. I'm not saying "back off" or anything here, just throwing out an observation. (Though really, Kataangers can be pretentious asswads, too... TOKKA OR BUST.)

22. So long as you can like what you like in the fandom and not go challenging major 'shippers on what'll end up canon, residence in the Avatar fandom isn't so scary. Debates that occur when analysing the show at large, possible outcomes, or specific episodes can get a little heated, but I've been in this fandom almost as long as the show (not quite though, I was slow on the cable-watching bus) and the biggest problems I've had was catching shit for trying to explain to a writer why her characters were Mary-Sues. Tell me what fandom DOESN'T have those girls.

35. So what if they love her? Are they going to ostracise you if you tell them that you don't even like her? Not very good friends, in that case. One of my best friends and I can't stand most of each other's favourite bands, but we admit it; we disagree strongly on quite a few movies and shows as well, but you know what? We respect each other's choices.

14.) Hm. Fandom sexuality in general seems to be strange; and I don't just mean the typical "fandom lesbian," I know quite a few ACTUAL lesbians in fandom and...

...it's sort of strange. I can't say I've encountered many (if any at all) FTMs in my fairly recent reentry to fandom, though I don't doubt they exist. And while part of me wants to find the last bit of the secret troubling, part of me sort of agrees.

21.) Hm. Well, the whole thing started from a typo, I believe. Someone on 4chan intended to say that the character Archer from FAte/Stay Night was so manly that they couldn't help but be gay for them... only they misspelled it "gar." "I am gar for Archer." And while some people keep it purely as that "so manly you're gay for them" it's sort of evolved into a general expression referring to stereotypically masculine traits or something. There was a great post on /m/ comparing "GAR" to the Latin concept of "Virtus" but I can't find it.

It's silly and some people still adamantly stand by "Gar = gay for them" but it's sort of turned into a concept of its own. >_>

I wouldn't say friends only necessarily has anything to do with delusions of grandeur, so much as covering one's back? These days something as simple as a picture of you holding a beer on Facebook can actually influence a hiring decision, for example, and as someone who's had a job doing pre-employment background checks, I think I can say with some confidence that yes, many employers do check into these things.

Which is not to say there aren't people who might be doing it for the reasons you stated, mind. But there are a lot of fairly legitimate reasons why someone might not want their posts available to anyone who wanders past.

The difference is that arachnophobes aren't going to ridicule and oppress the spiders as a result of fearing them. I thiiiink I see what you're going for in the glorious name of wank and teh lulz (and I do love teh lulz)... but in the end I think it's just kind of sad.

In all honesty your literal definition isn't that far from reality - homophobes can be and often are squicked / weirded out by / afraid that their children will be molested by gay people. It's still a "phobia" to some degree, but the reason so many people "hate the homophobes" is because of the oppressive, closed-minded, violent tendencies that arise from it.

So when I read "homophobe," I do not think of the "oppressive, closed-minded, violent tendencies" that it is associated with today.

No, when I read it, I envision a poor, absolutely TERRIFIED person, who cannot control their fear, who, upon meeting a "gay" person, will not burst into irrational anger but rather experience feelings of terror and impending doom, rapid heartbeat and breathing, sweaty palms, etc., etc.

The disparity would be the lulz.
