I love writing drabbles. I feel accomplished if I can capture a moment or an emotion in one hundred words. Most of my posted fic are drabbles, though there are longer stories here and there.

However, I do understand your frustration a little, because a poorly written drabble is more frustrating than an equally poor longer story. At least the lengthier story may have some parts that work, while a sucky drabble has no redeeming qualities. Then again, the sucky drabble is easier to scroll past. :-)

Your secret still sucks. :=(

9. This kind of makes me want to watch Gurren now.

28. Seriously? Have you ever tried writing a GOOD drabble before? There's a serious art to it, and most people who can write the most amazing, epic fic wouldn't know how to make 100 words hit like a punch in the gut if they tried.

(I write both, btw. It helps to be broad minded in writing)

33. Speaking of gut punches... ouch. That scene where she asks where Bernie is... ouch. Just... ouch.

(Anonymous) 2007-12-20 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
3. I actually admire your ability to keep on being like that. I used to be that way too until about 3 years ago, when I started worrying too much about how I came across to people. When I read my journal entries from back then and compare them to my entries now, I get a little sad. It sure looks like I was having more fun back then and I think my personality came across better too.

In conclusion, more power to you!

[identity profile] teostra.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 02:08 am (UTC)(link)

I have filters for fandoms. Specifically for one fandom that I am afraid some people will look down on me for being apart of.

31

[identity profile] azure15.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
31; ME TOO D:

Every. Single. Time.

They had a top 100 British Comedy countdown over here once, and when they showed Blackadder, they played that ending, and it STILL made me cry, even then. It's really cool that it wasn't even the original ending, it was something they had to edit together randomly.

[identity profile] hippiebohochick.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I usually ship Donatello with Cosimo de' Medici, but still...I'm glad someone else sees the man's obvious slashy potential!

Re: 34

(Anonymous) 2007-12-20 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
That ALSO works.

Hey, according to my theory, Donatello was with Brunelleschi when he was 16. Never said it was forever!

28. A short piece =/= lack of commitment. I've dabbled in both longer fic and drabbles, and both types of fic require a fair amount of dedication to do both, IMO. Just because someone writes a drabble doesn't mean they haven't gone over that thing with a fine-tooth comb dozens of times to make sure the wording and the images and the feelings you want to invoke are just-so. Not say, of course, that ALL drabble writers are that meticulous, because most drabbles, like most fics, are shit. But I don't think it's fair to begrudge the good writers who write drabbles, merely because their pieces are short.

41. I have a serious soft spot for both those relationships. In a way, I can empathize with you.

[identity profile] fan-of-miggie.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
28. Ooh, you're asking for it...

...Hey, you got it! Are you happy now?

Seriously, though...good things come in small packages.

EL DORADOOOOOOOOOOO

LOVE that movie. ;D

[identity profile] anibunny.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Give me a well written and emotional ficlet over a poorly done, half-assed, multi-chapter fic anyday! Writers might use it as a writing exercise, or just as something fun for them, or to break writer's block.

Would a simple two stanza poem be considered worthless then to an epic poem? I'm an artist and sure, sometimes I get tired of seeing art galleries filled with doodles, oekaki, and paint-chat drawings but at the same time. . .I have seen some excellent doodles and oekaki.

You can have great ficlets/drabbles just as much as you can have a bad piece of fiction. In writing, size does not matter! :D

Re: 28.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
...Yeah, okay, you basically said you'll take good over bad anyday Well, duh. Of course an excellent drabble is better than a shitty longfic, but that's not the point here. The point is the difference between an excellent drabble and an equally excellent longfic.

Harder to answer.

Srsly, I dont mean to be rude, but better arguments plz.

42. I wouldn't talk to you either. That's a really disfunctional reason for hating a character. OMG SHE GOT IN THE WAY OF BUTTSECKZ!?! It's more like Michael Shanks (who openly hates shippers) would be open for Daniel getting together with Jack in canon, anyways.

Re: #42

[identity profile] runonmoonlight.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
At least Michael Shanks makes hilarious impersonations of fanart he's seen. If you have no clue of what I speak, it is SOMEWHERE on youtube under the "Polaris 2006" convention he did with Lexa. DEAR LORD I LOVE THAT MAN.)

3. I love you. It's fun to be a fangirl! Why not enjoy it?

8. Agree totally. They have awesome fanfic, but their canon...eew.

31. I ADORE that show and also cry everytime. BlackAdder FTW!

[identity profile] dorknessrising.livejournal.com 2007-12-20 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
8. I'm willing to bet it's mostly because the ship's development was left totally off-screen, and what was in the magazine was just...BUH? The last words we heard Zuko utter in Mai's presence were "GIRLS ARE CRAZY!" When he was nine years old. Where exactly does that translate to "I always liked you and thought you pretty!"?

Only in the mind of a homesick teenager who is desperately trying to convince himself he did the right thing when he knows he didn't. But then, I never saw that relationship as anything permanent to start with. It was just as forced and fake-feeling as him trying to be the Prince again. But I get the feeling that was the intention of it. Or at least that's what I accept so I don't completely lose faith in Mike and Brian's ability to write romance.

Dude, I love the show. I don't even watch it for the shipping. It's win in a can, but romance doesn't appear to be its strong point, and sometimes I think it would kick more ass than it already does if they just left the shipping out entirely.

Argh. I apologize for the teel deer -_-;;

Sad he died but I don't know if there would have been a place for him in the post-Imperial Star Wars universe. .____. RIP Admiral Piett.

Walt Disney was only a great man for his company. His political views changed according to whatever was good for his company. He was seen attending Nazi meetings. In the "Three Little Pigs" he allowed his animators to dress up the Big Bad Wolf as a stereotypical Jewish peddler, which was changed after Jewish groups complained. He also took part in blacklisting possible communists during the Red Scare.

The Magic Kingdom: Hollywood's Dark Prince by Marc Eliot is a really interesting book about him.
