Cumberbatch's wax duplicate still has his sharp looks from a year or two ago. Look at him next to it, he's the one slowly melting.

Don't feel ashamed. I am just really, really, really to the point of sad geeky about that show.

Yep, Jack's first appearance was in The Earthly Child/The Doctor Dances, which was written by Moffat. So basically Moffat did create him.

The Final Countdown

Yeah, you kinda do need to watch Torchwood if you want an expanded characterization on Jack.

Ahhh, the old adolescent attitude of "if you don't have a romantic relationship you're failing at life", how I missed you so-

AHAHHAHAH I can't keep a straight face saying all that.

I'm taller than you, and so glad I don't have to wear business clothes. Literally every item of clothing looks different on me than on models or in a catalogue. Not bad per se, you just can't really rely on the length it has on the picture.

Yep.

Anyone can have a boyfriend if they have absolutely no standards.

I've never had trouble getting dates (and am now married), so that doesn't apply. BUT... it makes me want to smack some sense into people I know who are all "woe is me, I'm so ugly, no one will love me." Like seriously, this woman looks like a thumb. You can get a date.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm like

900% sure that RTD created him and not Moffat, even if Moffat got the credit for that episode. I would be very comfortable assuming that including Jack was part of the brief for that episode.

If you can get past the fact that every single case of the week just happens to tie into what's happening in class/characters' external lives, and the fact that it falls into the "Always Murder" trope in a similar fashion to Ace Attorney, I would say go for it. The characters are really solid, and Annalise in particular is an awesome lead.

What about The City & the City by China Mieville? I keep wanting to get around to giving it a read.

Something Canon Het Shippers Do That Gets Under My Skin

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
So I've noticed that, occasionally, when a slash fan says that a canon het ship didn't work for them (they don't see the chemistry, don't like the pairing, etc.) some of the canon het shippers will say something like:

"Here's a perfect example of a slash fan shitting on a canon het couple to get validation."

And it annoys me for several reasons:

1. Het fans do this as well and use the same tactics as even the worst of slash shippers (see Harmonians or Zutarians if you want examples)
2. You know DAMN well why the reverse isn't true -- because the ratio of slash ships that are canon compared to het ships is UNBELIEVABLY skewed, even if one takes into account that homosexuality/bisexuality is less common than heterosexuality in the general population. So there's no way that het shippers can "shit" on canon slash couples since canon slash couples are so few in number to begin with.
3. Saying that a canon het ship doesn't work for you isn't "shitting" on anything. It's an opinion for God's sake. Unless you're insulting the fans for shipping it or trying to say that het shippers are being bigots for not liking slash (which is asinine), writing out why a het ship doesn't work for you on a personal level isn't shitting on ANYTHING.

Why can't someone write their opinion on a ship without being lambasted with accusations? Of course people spend less time writing essays or meta critical of slash ships. They're not canon. They're not explicitly written into the book or show or movie. Whereas a canon het romance IS an element present in the work that can be evaluated just as readily as the cinematography, the music, a book's pacing, or the plot.

Note: I'm not asking het shippers not to reply back and say why the relationship works for them or why they think it's good writing. But I do wish disliking part of a work wasn't equated with shitting on it and that slash shippers would stop being accused of looking for validation. We KNOW that our ship has no chance of being canon/becoming official. We also know exactly WHY it was never on the table in the first place.

Okay, rant over.

who still uses the word "lemon" to describe a sex scene? I haven't seen that one in a while

True - and as far as we saw, he was somewhat monogamous with Ianto. And he even married once (and claims to actually appreciate the institute of marriage).

Janeway is hot period. I love evil Janeway too in that one stupid episode where she is evil.

Honestly I'm just sick of "different opinion= shitting on whatever". Like wow...grow a thicker skin.

Su and Lin are half-sisters, so if Su was was Sokka's daughter then Lin/Tenzin wouldn't technically be incest...slightly awkward, maybe, but not incest (I think they mention that they didn't know their fathers though, so I guess Lin wouldn't have thought it was awkward)

Re: This is how it really ended and you can't convince me otherwise

I actually feel the same way. I don't hate the last two seasons, but there were so many changes that I didn't like, and took away from what I liked about the show before. I thought most people like the last two seasons, so I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one!
