I read the Bible once just so I could slash the characters. And the blood and the gore and the sex promised were factors in it too, I guess.

(But I could never get through it! It didn't hold my attention. I really wish someone made a novel-like adaption so I could get through it all. It'd be so fucking awesome.)

47. While I'm not sure I'd go that far, THANK YOU. I would HATE to live in Japan. My friends insist it's totally non-homophobic, non-xenophobic, non-judgemental and tha you can 'be yourself' more. That they are above all that is bad in the world. And they 'know' because one of them lived there for a couple of years as a KID. WHAT. Anything bad is OK because it's traditional and something being traditional makes it A OK!

47. I'm really sorry living in Japan hasn't worked out for you, and I'm sorry that your dislike for the country extends to everything it makes, but I've had a VERY different experience. I started learning Japanese three years ago because I enjoyed manga, but I came to love it in its own right. Living in Tokyo is no cake walk, but I've actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It's terrible that your experience was so bad, but that doesn't mean it'll be awful for everyone.

I suppose it is true. I've just had a really awful time. My host family literally threw me out despite me trying my very hardest to fit in with them and adapt to their lifestyle, among other things.

I was too young to hate sequels when Jafar Returns and The Little Mermaid 2 came out. Pirates2 I saw simply because I love POTC to death. But making a sequel to Hunchback of Notre Dame? UGH. IT RUINS IT.

I've never lived there, and although it would be fun to visit once, look around, enjoy the sites that can be seen and take in a little bit of the culture (and stuff like that; touristy stuff).. And come home to the States. I hate how Wapanese kids are all, "OMG JAPAN IS AWESOME I WILL LIVE THERE AND EVERYONE WILL UNDERSTAND ME." They just.. don't get it.

No one is going to understand fanbrats and people who are uber obsessed with animated characters that don't actually exist in ANY country, no matter if it's the place where it originated or not. It's okay to love them, it's okay to be in fandom and dedicate part of your life to it (while still doing the healthy crap--going to school, getting a job, BATHING) but don't delude yourself into thinking that random Japanese guy on the street won't laugh at you for wearing a Naruto headband in a public place that ISN'T a convention the same way an American guy would.

Because he'd totally laugh at you. And I would too.

Being a fan is pretty much a sin in Japan, or so I've heard. "Otaku" has very negative connotations. People walking down the street are more likely to jump you and pummel the crap out of you while you're wearing a Naruto headband than stop you and give you a high-five for being just plain awesome. They also aren't fond of foreigners.

If you're a white anime fan? Japan probably hates you. Sorry kids.

47. Japan is not perfect at all. I often have issues watching anime or reading manga because of the cultural stuff that just pushes my buttons wrong.
