Those types of SJWs don't actually give a shit about the actual principles behind social justice. They just want to whine about being persecuted and how their opinions are so much cooler and edgier than mainstream society's.

That is very compatible with being a Slytherin fan.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
people who police media preferences in concerns with political ideologies are probably boring, overinvested people

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what Slytherfans are like. I know that being an SJW doesn't mean your interests are perfect because I am one and my interests are not perfect.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Slytherfans think the people who think all non-magic people and people-who were-born-to-non-magic people are subhuman scum are actually the good guys in Harry Potter.

I was very surprised when pottermore put me into slytherin, because the slytherin fans were up there with some of the most obnoxious people in the fandom to me. Only the Harmonians annoyed me more. Ah well. I must be more obnoxious then I think.

Pottermore put me in Slytherin as well - yeah, i'm annoying, but I don't think the Wizarding Supremacists were the good guys. Did these people not read the books.

I got sorted into Hufflepuff and I have always identified as a Gryffindor, including the shitty aspects of the House. I felt slightly offended.

Not because I think less of Puffs, but I have been a Gryffindor for years and it spun me out. Also because I'm actually pretty lazy.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Pottermore also put me in Slytherin after I consistently tested Hufflepuff in all other "What's your house?" tests. Totally turned me off to Pottermore. I had a feeling they put most people in Slytherin or Gryffindor since those were the most popular houses in fandom.

Kind of an off-topic question but...

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Something that always bothered me a bit about Harry Potter is that I never felt a racism analog made sense.

Magical people simply ARE superior to non-magical people. Sure you can point to Muggle technology, but there's nothing about it that a magical person couldn't inherently grasp. But witches and wizards can do so much more than Muggles, it's not even funny.

It's not something stupid like skin color (which is a superficial trait). Magic users simply ARE superior.

I guess I just don't see how Slytherins are 100% wrong. Regarding Half-bloods and Muggle-borns, sure, but not about Magic vs. Muggles.

Magic IS might.

Re: Kind of an off-topic question but...

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Magic is might

So are muggle weapons, but if you said that, say, America was better than the rest of the world because it had nuclear bombs, and thus America is superior, you'd get shot down, and rightly so.

And on that note, muggles have really terrifying weaponry, so that's a point in the favor of muggles. Another one is that, while wizards have floo, brooms, and teleportation (of various types), they also have to rely on muggle tech that they've altered for transportation, because wizarding travel has a lot of limitations: Floo? You can only go to a place that's also connected to the Floo network. Brooms? You can only carry so many people at a time. Portkeys? Can be messed with/altered. Apparation? Can only take so many people at once, and has to be done by a skilled user, or else splinching. Muggle tech is superior for carrying large groups of people, it's why the wizards use magicked trains, boats, carriages, cars, etc. instead of having a proper wizarding equivalent.

Really? It seems as if the wizarding culture is perpetually stuck within the middle ages, and I don't really think there's really much innovation (or strive for innovation anyway).
Also you have certain witches and wizards wanting to pretty much go on muggle genocides.

I'm not sure what would be rationally compatible with being a Slytherfan. Divine right of kings, maybe?

It doesn't make any sense. But the contortions they make when they're trying to justify it are really funny.

I guess I'm a Slytherin ''fan'' in the sense that I think that the house had so much interesting potential that just wasn't explored fully in the books.

Fandom has come up with its own definition of Slytherin from the books though (probably because writing people off as evil bastards when they're 11 is somewhat problematic), which is what people are probably talking about when they refer to themselves as Slytherins.

I actually support plain old social justice, but where it crosses the line into SJWing is when it starts to backflip into itself and actually become bigoted. Like when SJW opinions become indistinguishable from those of neo-Nazis (such as races shouldn't intermarry, white people shouldn't adopt non-white children, etc.) Then there are the ones that romanticize being non-straight, trans, mentally ill, etc. so heavily and talk shit so much about simply being straight, cis, neurotypical, etc. (and I don't mean in a "___ people don't understand what I'm going through" I mean in a non ironic "EW STRAIGHT PEOPLE ARE SOOOO BORING" way) that they start treating the identities more like fashion trends than actual identities and become fetishizing as hell.
