To answer your question: I consider myself moderately liberal/independent. I tend to evaluate each issue on its own, but when I line them all up it comes out pretty liberal.

I feel the place is pretty liberal.

Lots of people have a hate-on for "sjw," but "hating sjw" doesn't mean being against "social justice" just like having a hate-on for PETA doesn't mean being against animal rights. The people that complain that FS is conservative are the very people that do not get that distinction

I think a lot of people here just say 'I don't like how ______ does it BUT I'M ALL FOR JUSTICE' basically to save face instead of outright saying 'I like the status quo the way it is'

Depends on your definition of what liberal is. Too the ridiculously extreme far left, we are probably cop beatings approving, 1% loving, goose stepping Nazis. Too the ridiculously extreme far right, we are probably illegals smuggling, pot smoking gay sex for everyone, welfare hippy queens.

Personally, I think we don't have a side. I like to think we take every idea in an individual manner and judge it on its own. That's how I think it should be done. Not everything is black and white.

Not as liberal as my friends, that's for sure. I don't think GMOs are evil, I don't feel like war is always a terrible or avoidable thing (when it's a consequence of fatally differing philosophy rather than a resource bid), and I'm pretty into firearms.

But I'm very far from conservative as well being a queer, pro-choice, feminist, socialist, environmentally conscious sort who understands that climate change isn't a lie and is really a scientist at heart.

I mostly fit in with my colleagues in science and social science more than I do with my activist humanities friends.

Liberal? Pretty liberal, I would say.

I think it's important to understand that social justice hard-asses aren't liberal. They may be "progressive" or "egalitarian" as well as idealistic. But liberalism, for better or worse, isn't really about yelling at people for using the wrong word.

"My kink is not your kink (and that's OK)," is a liberal statement.
"Die in a fire, you troll," is not so liberal. (Though we all have our limits.)

Prolly liberal, but I'm fiscally conservative too. Not an American though, so that probably means something even more communist.

FS is the only site I regularly hang out on where I've never seen a person who politely posted a reasonable opinion get harassed into leaving the site. Take that in whatever sense you will.

(Though we did have Jaybie get harassed into leaving because someone didn't like their writing . . .)

Overall, I think fs is moderately liberal, but unfortunately there are a handful of very vocal, mostly-anons who are either epic trolls, Tea Partiers, or honestly think that the best way to fight the Tumblr horde is to insist that the exact opposite of whatever SJWs want must be correct. Which, no. I think PETA is full of domestic-terrorism-supporting, lying shitstains, but the correct response to them isn't to put on your kitten-skin coat and go shoot some rhinoceroses.

Personally, I'm already pretty damned liberal by most accounts, and seem to be moving further left as I get older.

It's liberal. conservative opinions tend to get dogpiled. I mean, I don't see how anyone could call this community anything other than overwhelmingly (in numbers) liberal (at least by American standard).

So I'm Canadian. Family have voted Grit since Confederation. Given the political climate in Canada today, however, the Grits are now blue Tories, the NDP are now red Tories, and the actual Tories are...erm. Rather far to the right.

I, myself, have given up completely and do not intend to "vote." Largely because it seems highly likely that the incumbent Tories won't actually be counting the ballots at all. Sadly.

Liberal seems to simple a dichotomy.

In a lot of ways it's incredibly liberal here in a classic liberal way, but mostly just moderate left from an internet perspective.

Not particularly, unless it has to do with sex.

Outside of sex, the com averages out to moderate with some weird authoritarian leanings. For every one thread about how Ted Cruz is misrepresenting how taxes work, we've got a couple about how cops shouldn't be expected not to shoot kids if they've stolen something, or how women complaining about having some strange dude's thigh in their lap is misandry, or how immigrants need to shut the fuck up about the old country and assimilate.

So, we're definitely more liberal than Fox News, but possibly less liberal than Wisconsin.
